Freezing to death in the Albanian alps is not how I envisioned on leaving this world! This was one hell of a journey. Not one I would have ever taken if I knew what was ahead of me. If you're thinking of visiting the amazing village of Theth while you're in Albania, MAKE SURE YOU GO IN THE SUMMER! Do not make the same mistake I did lol. While Theth is a small isolated village in the Albanian Alps, every visit one takes here is special, unique and wonderful - regardless of the season. The local residents are warm and welcoming - with cute pets and splendid food offerings! The Grunasi Waterfall is beautiful! The Blue Eye spring is also breathtaking. Alina, this is a fantastic place to get stuck in, any time: winter, spring, summer or fall!!!

@patjoni No - not really. It's more a coincidence rather than a similarity, that the masculine variant of Lithuanian first names and surnames end in 'ius' or 'as'. Because people of Greek heritage are more numerous than people of Lithuanian heritage, some may initially assume that Lithuanian masculine names are Greek names - when they are not. The Arvanitic, Greek and Lithuanian languages all belong to the Indo-European language family - all descending from ancient Proto-Indo-European. But these contemporary spoken languages are not mutually-comprehensible. Arvanitika is the variety of Albanian traditionally spoken by the Arvanites, a population group in Greece. Arvanitika is today endangered, as its speakers have been shifting to the use of Greek and most younger members of the community no longer speak it.

I make no mention or reference to language in my initial post (above). In another thread, however, I was asked: "Are you an Avranites?". Thus, assumed that this was the context of your (above) questions to me.

As a son of Lithuanian émigré parent born in Montréal, I am fluent in Lithuanian, English and French, with some modest German language skills. Having learned some Latin in secondary school (as part of my Catholic education), I also have some (reading) aptitude for the other Romance / Latin languages. It’s nice to meet you, Patjoni. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures in parts of the world most of us will never see. As an American we tend to forget we and western Europe are not the center of the universe. DEFINITELY go back in the summer! My husband and I were there in the Summer of 2018. We took a boat from the Skoder area to the Valbona area. We stayed at at hostel/guest house for a couple of days and then hiked the pass over to Theth. It's part of a trail that goes through several countries. It was an amazing hike that I'd recommend! Thanks for your video. It's awesome to see it in snow. Tou seem to be going to several places my husband and I went. Tour videos are making me feel "other home sick" because we loved Eastern Europe!

What better way to start the New Year than to watch another amazing video by Alina, filled with gorgeous drone shots, soulful music, and of course Alina's bright and cheerful presence! 😁✨ Theth looks like heaven with beautiful landscapes, especially the waterfall which is truly a sight to behold. The cute chickens and puppies were a cherry on top. The road leading to it looks picturesque and actually reminded me of my time in Himachal Pradesh, India (there's a mountain pass called Rohtang which looks similar). Fantastic work overall!

What can I say? I absolutely adore this part of Albania!!! It somehow feels like home to me. Those mountains and valleys, waterfalls and streams, quaint homes and churches - just WOW!!!! Astounding beauty! Alina, you must go back in summer - see that family again. So majestic is this location on earth! I think if I could select a place for another lifetime, it would be here! Would you spend it with me? On another note: your perseverance, and that of your professional driver, paid off - maybe there’s a good reason he has a cross hanging from the rear-view mirror, LOL! If your heart ever did settle on this little town for a summer home, maybe you could set up a general store (sundries) with attached coffee shop! Not to take away the business from the trail guy. Maybe get the National Parks in Albania to set up a satellite dish to send and receive internet for the town. Or a hotspot in your coffee shop? BTW, did you see the “face” in the rock cliff above that stick built shop? Maybe better seen in the Instagram photo of him. I’m just “spitballing” ideas here, Alina. I wouldn’t expect you to take this seriously - because I know you don’t really care for the cold! LOL! But it’s fun using one’s imagination. Happy New Year! wherever you go😉❤️.

Alina, Happy New Year! Yes, indeed lesson learned always prepare for the worst in the mountains winter weather! You`re Canadian you should know this already! LOL Glad, you made the trip safely excellent driver prepared! Clothes, blankets, food, water, cell charger as examples! FYI one candle lit in a car will heat the interior crack the window slightly for ventilation if the car troubles! Cool adventure thank you for sharing the beautiful views and hiking journeys! In thethi is not blue eye ,,, blue eye is only in saranda, in saranda the water comes from undergrad very deap no one know how deap is. In thethi you don't loese because people are nice, they are amazing. I'm Happy to sea lots of water ,,, in the summer don't have a lots water, don't look beautiful. Being an Albanian from across the border in Montenegro (when I was was living there it was Yugoslavia) I grew up seeing these Mountains all of my childhood, but never had a chance to visit them. But next time I go to Montenegro I will visit Theth along with my Michigan born wife, and two of my New York born kids. Robert Elsie, the famous German - Canadian Albanologist, was buried in Theth 2 years ago. His last wish was to be buried in these Albanian Alps ( far away from Canada).. That's how much he loved these areas.

I was totally impressesed by the amazing view from the mountain. Your host Rita made you a delicious meal. My mouth watered seeing this amazing meal. I wish to live in those small houses near the mountain. It would be so peaceful with the wonderful scent of the nature. I was amazed seeing the small café house. The best part part was the gorgeous lake cascade. I would like to swim in it. I had visited several mountains. But this one was more thrilling. Don't worry i'll go there with a professional driver. Why are you certainly father good one there didn't you? Words to not come close to explain to anyone what is there and what you saw I hope you say that in your most precious video Bank you have!! You know I always enjoy seeing the food prepared there and I have to tell you I hope I live long enough to go there for any time of the year but you are probably right summertime is even better but it's great you did it and both seasons well done, Alina!! There’s another place in Albania called blue eye in Saranda in the South but this is beautiful cos water comes out of the ground and doesn’t stop.

Hi there I’m happy you enjoyed your visit Actually yes you are right we have 2 blue eye 1 in northern And 1in southern Albania if you going to visit the south side I will recommend to visit Butrinti as well and Vjosa river the most beautiful and long river in EU, hope you enjoyed

It was 100F when I cycled through the Albanian mountains in summer 2019, and I suffered accordingly. I think spring or fall would be your best bet.

Well done Alina for making it to Theth during winter's time! You are the first one making a video about Theth in winter. Albania is not a cold country, but the mountainous areas can give you quite a surprise. You might get block from snow in a matter of two hours if you don't run as quick as you can, because the area is so remote and nobody bothers to go and clear the streets from the snow. You are lucky that they are in the process of building that road, otherwise with the previous one, you had no chance to pass by that minibus that got stuck. Consider your experience a unique one, no matter how scary it felt... Happy New Year Alina and I hope you enjoyed last night in Gjirokastra!
