Albert Einstein: The Buddha Found What He Was Searching For | Buddhism Podcast.
#alberteinstein #buddhism #buddhisminenglish #buddhismpodcast #origination
"I am a deeply religious nonbeliever. But if there were any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism." - Albert Einstein
Buddhism possesses the characteristics of a universal religion that one might hope for the future: It transcends the concept of a personal God, steers clear of dogma and theology; it encompasses both the natural and spiritual worlds; and it is based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity.
"If there is any religion that could correspond to the needs of modern science, it would be Buddhism." - Albert Einstein
Einstein saw Buddhism not just as a spiritual doctrine but also as a philosophy of life, a comprehensive approach to the universe and human beings, reflecting a harmony between science and spirituality. He believed that in a world increasingly governed by science and technology, Buddhism offers a flexible mindset, opening doors to profound understanding of the universe's nature and our role within it.

The beauty of Buddhism is Never interfere other Religion or Belief. Never involved on what is Your God or Our God, who is right or who is wrong argument. The Buddha's teachings / Dhammas are more like "how to cure your wound", instead of busy to ask "what caused the wound, where did you got the wound, why you are so careless". It's universal and based on nature laws, whether you believe it or not, whether you are not a Buddhist. The laws are conduct to all beings. Buddhism is not just a religion, not just the relation between The Creator with His Creation, but The relation between us and the Universe. That's why for who don't come and try to learn Dhammas, they hardly to understand Buddhism. Because the concept is Non Theism.

I was fortunately born in a Buddhist family. After being introduced to the first Insight meditation retreat by a Dhamma friend, I dedicate my life to follow Lord Buddha's teachings and practices. To be born into a Buddhist family or following its doctrines & practices as a routine is basically no different from following practices of any other religion and does not mean the Buddha's teachings have been understood. These Buddhist retreats are mostly routines of learning a certain practice of meditation. Only a spiritually realized soul guide one and point the way. Ultimately, it is in deep inner urge to realize the Truth that matters, like what happened to Buddha.
@ychaphiv
@ychaphiv Месяц назад
@@cssuntherrao Your idea is too abstract. Being born in a Buddhist family gave you an opportunity to walk on the right path. Practice the Insight meditation (Vipassana) gives you the knowledge and wisdom to understand Lord Buddha's teachings better. Dana (charity), sila (precepts) and Vipassana (Insight meditation) are the main objectives to the Enlightenment. They're the heart and soul of Buddhism. As a Buddhist, I accept criticism and shared knowledge. Thanks for your comments.
@cssuntherrao
@cssuntherrao Месяц назад
@@ychaphivFirstly, I did not criticise. Secondly, being born in non-Buddhist family does not imply they walk a wrong path. One does not have to tag oneself as Buddhist or anything else to walk a right path. Einstein appreciated Buddha's teachings but did not tag himself as Buddhist or anything. Many who tag themselves Buddhist, Christian etc. don't take any teachings seriously. My main point is, to find the Truth or Nirvana or spiritual enlightenment or scientific truths, one need not follow a beaten track. The Buddha did not follow a beaten track nor did Einstein or Christ or any of the spiritual Masters. Of course their teachings do inspire others like practicing metta, karuna, upeksha etc. & mediation techniques like anapana sati, vippassana do help insight many people in their lives but the real scientist or spiritualist seekers will have a deep urge do seek out the Truth like what Einstein or The Buddha did. 🙏

Very educative. Please allow me to interrupt. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

@@rosemadder5547 I am what you called, "Anyone can research Buddha".Im not learned in the way you'd like me to. But I am the only person in the world who has cracked Xuan Zangs epic book si tu ki. I have tracked him from page one to page 183 of volume two of his lovely book, page to page paragraph to paragraph. I have identified literally every place he visited from page one to page 183 because after page 183 he enters what is today Bangladesh and parts of Burma. I have traveled cross country and videographed 250 villages which he visited strictly according to the direction he gives. Strictly. I struck Buddhist gold. The present sites shown for tourists don't tally with Xuan Zang though every one quotes him. These sites were identified in the eighteen hundreds by a motley bunch of British colonial indologists in a period when India wasn't properly mapped and there was no school or college in this country so there was no educated indian to help them. These indologists or Historians created the concept of Hinduism and Buddhism. They were incapable of weaning out indian Buddhism which existed. But they were looking at the religion with a foreign eye and foreign material. Now we have Google satellite maps to track Xuan Zang. This throws up a totally different story. Visiting the stupas Xuan Zang visited, I realized the Buddhist story he narrated talllied with the village deity. None of the villages had Ram or Krishna temples. Brahmins simply used the Shankar temples to orally preach Ramayana and Mahabharata. Bihar is a unique case. Brahmins aren't allowed to preach in the village deity temple. Why??? Because our Buddhist forefathers didn't allow them. That rule stands even today. This is my private research. I'm a one man army and not a learned Buddhist you would like to meet.

I am 74 now. Till 47, hinduism was my religion & everything to me. I was a devout practitioner of hinduism & would protest against any critical comment about it. One incident changed my understanding of hinduism or any religion. While I was frantically in search of reason for that life-threatening incident in 1997 I stumbled upon buddhist materials in Pali Canon. It all happened after 4 doctors had declared openly that I was sinking & there was no hope of my survival. At that fateful moment, my only thought was not about my life but all about my self faith that I had not committed any mistake which was the root cause of that situation of life or death. I was willing to die if I had committed that mistake. My thought was steadfast that I didn't commit any mistake at all. Miracle happened unexpectedly. I was resurrected from the jaws of death after 11 hours of surgery & 2 days in coma. Why ? This was the question nagging my mind for about one year of recuperation at home & after the second surgery 4 months after the first one. Yet, i was restless without any joy of my survival. To undergo this trauma & agony, what did I do ? I didn't do any mistake. I was prompted to search for the reason from hinduism & other religious scripts. Nowhere could I find it till i got buddhist books ( theravada) in Pali Cannon. I found the reason for the incident & the truth about myself. There is nothing which happens in life without a cause. Everything happens under nature's cause & effect- Lord Buddha's words. He highlited that truth is immutable & everlasting. He himself was the truth. I realised that my spiritual search has now ended. For the last 26+ years, I have been buddhist for all practical purposes. I am now treading in Buddha's ways knowing well the 4 truths in the 8 fold path.

There's no God the Creator in Hinduism. It's collection of local practices which varies from place to place. All the deities in Hinduism are human beings. This is like ancestor worship in China. Hindu feel there's great spirit -- paramatma -- which permeates everything. The spirit, form of feeling, is one. There's no your spirit and no my spirit. There are no past lives, no Karma from past lives, no rebirth and no reincarnation. The spirit in the body came from the two sex cells, heritage, from male-female pair. The rest of the body came from solar energy transformed as chemical energy for food and kinetic energy in the form of physical movements. The body will not return. The spirit will not go into another body. Another body already has spirit from heritage in the form of the two sex cells.

I am glad you found your path. But you do not know that Buddhism is only the other side of the coin. Most of the teachings comes from the vedas. Impersonal amd personal completeness of the wholeness of the Entity that is God. In the B-gita, it is stated that Buddha is an incarnation. So then how you reconcile this fact? Krishna is a transcendental person. He is not human but transcendental. Anti matter. Which you have no idea about therefore you denounce personality. But that is not the truth. The absolute truth is unchangeable. Today you are hindu, tomorrow you are Buddhist, next Christian and then Muslim etc... Truth is unchangeable. If it keeps changing then that is not truth.

Only Advaita Vedanta is a logical school of philosophy in Hinduism, and it of course contradicts Dvaita / existence of Krishna. This is a dualistic world, when something exist it's counter part also come to existence. For example, left - right, up - down, day - night, birth - death, cold - hot etc.. if you remove one, it's counter part also ceased to exist. Think about a world there is no left side, then you will never talk about its counter part (right side). Same thing can be applied to things in your mind, happiness - sadness, love - hate, past - future. If you are a person that looking for happiness, that means you are in sadness. In fact they are the same thing because one cannot exist without the other. If you can let go both of them your mind will be in a neutral state which is called Nirawana. When you realized this dualism, you mind is in middle path, and you stop arguing or fighting for one side. Most important part is how you make your mind neutralized, in fact it's when you realized that sadness - happiness, love - hate are the same thing, because when something disappear and it counter part ceased to exist, it means they are the same thing. Think about a world where there is no sadness then it will be world where we never talk about happiness.

You don't have to practice anything daily, it just for awareness only. because you cannot change anything coming to your mind forcefully. it just a realization that mind is same as other things in nature like ocean, wind, or sky. sometime it good some time it bad. Realization or awareness makes your mind neutralized. For example, take look at this 6 and 9 image qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-ee303148fa032264abc40ceaa316143c-lq. One can be extreme and argue it's 6 or 9, because he doesn't see the other extreme. The one who see from both side will not argue, because it's realization, and there is nothing to practice.

Buddha understood the truth of life. The miserable beings traveling in a continuum of life, changing from one life from to another, spreading throughout the Universe were given an opportunity to follow a path voluntarily. Some beings like misery, some like to solve problems of physical borders of the Universe, some like to go in to deep logic so they cannot come out and practice what they say. Buddha gave a solution to follow, voluntarily. If any being can see the truth, they can follow the Dhamma (the Buddha teachings), voluntarily. The path is clear and the salvation is your wish. If you feel that facing happiness and sadness interchangeably is what you need, yes then you may not follow it so you will be in the cycle for ever. That’s one’s freedom to select. What a free entry and exit in Buddha teachings. Extraordinary philosophy of practicing the reality based experience. Practice but not pure logic that allows humans to understand the life and Universe. What we see is not what we see in reality. The Mind is presented with a world of feelings through senses. But they come and go. Yes! We do experiment on physical matter, but they are in a particular form at a given time and subject to change. The changing nature and uncertainty are the real truth of life. That is the summary of Buddha teachings, profoundly understood by the genius Eisenstein. He too must have realized at the latter part of his life, that the total spectrum of Nature cannot be described in an equation. Morality is the religion thought by Buddha. You may accept it or reject it. That’s at your free will. But best is to come and see what it is. ❤

My experiences have in later life, been not just enlightening in an "out of the box sense" but undeniably and absolutely transcendent. This happened with several religions that I was exposed to: firstly, I was brought up in a Christian household, although not especially religious. Secondly, I did and experimented with alot of different yogas and spiritual organizations from India: gurus, ashrams, etc. Each one had something different to impart and all were transcendent in the experiences that I had when intensely practicing their disciplines. Thirdly, I went to a mosque with my friend during Ramadam, and finally a church opened right next door to me during the same time period. It is hard to determine which religion it is, but the most salient point is that in this time frame and later time frames many years in the future, I began to experience contact with cognizant, communicative spiritual entities that spoke to me briefly; it matters not which religion but the transcendental aspect is available to all real seekers. Every religion has its hypocrites.

I think that Buddhism is a teaching to open one's heart toward the universe, and teaching for the path of human awakening. Actually, Mahayana Buddhism preaches the same universe as the one observed through the astronomical telescope. The Buddhist universe has a hierarchical structure called the Three Thousand Worlds. The small thousand worlds come together to form the middle thousand worlds, The Middle Thousand Worlds come together to form the Great Thousand Worlds. The real universe also has a hierarchical structure like galaxies, galaxy clusters, and bubble structures. And it is the world like the sand of the Ganges. Moreover, space continues infinitely in all directions, including large and small directions, time flows from an infinite past to an infinite future. Buddhism preaches the law of cause and effect, and the relations of cause and effect also exists in the actual universe. At a time when it was believed that elephants on top of a giant turtle supported the earth, how was Gautama Buddha able to preach a universe that is the same as the actual universe? No matter how much we meditate on earth, we can only know the appearance of the universe through observation. Interestingly, there is an anecdote about the involvement of Brahma in Gautama's enlightenment. Buddhism teaches that there are countless Buddha lands (planets of enlightened beings) in the universe. It teaches us that we humans are not alone in the universe. Also, in esoteric Buddhism, which is other from the teachings of Gautama Buddha, Vairocana Buddha, who personifies the universe, preaches compassion (heart) and wisdom (science). We are born in the universe. therefore, we are part of Vairocana and are in born Buddhas. esoteric Buddhism preach that we must be aware of this and blossom our buddha nature. The Lotus Sutra teaches that the Eternal Buddha who has existed since eternity, appeared on earth as Gautama Buddha. That represents the continuation of infinite life in an infinite universe. The Avatamsaka Sutra teaches that the universe exists in a popy grain, a pore on the skin, or a dust. This means that our universe also exists within a gigantic micro world. This shows that the reality of the universe is a fractal multiverse. The sāgara-mudrā-samadhi shows the state of the Buddhas when they discovered the truth of the universe. The everything emerges on the calm surface of the sea. We humans may one day reach that state in the research labs.

Thank you for your incredibly detailed and insightful comment! You’ve beautifully articulated how Buddhism, particularly Mahayana and Esoteric traditions, presents a view of the universe that intriguingly parallels modern astronomical observations. The concept of the Three Thousand Worlds within Buddhism indeed mirrors the hierarchical structures we observe in the cosmos, from galaxies to galaxy clusters, suggesting a sophisticated understanding of the universe long before modern science could provide the tools for such observations. Your mention of the law of cause and effect (karma) as another point of convergence between Buddhist teachings and scientific principles highlights the profound depth of Buddhist philosophy, which sees the universe as an interdependent, dynamic continuum. The anecdotes and teachings about Brahma’s involvement in Gautama’s enlightenment and the presence of countless Buddha lands throughout the universe open fascinating discussions about the nature of life and consciousness beyond our Earth. This notion expands our understanding of existence and our place within it, urging us to consider more expansive possibilities of life and enlightenment across the cosmos. Moreover, the references to sutras like the Lotus Sutra and the Avatamsaka Sutra illustrate the idea that the universe is far more interconnected and intricate than we might commonly perceive, with each part reflecting the whole in a fractal-like manner. This concept is not only spiritually uplifting but also provides a poetic echo of some interpretations of quantum mechanics and theories of the multiverse. Your closing thoughts about reaching a state akin to the sägara-mudrä-samadhi through scientific endeavor beautifully bridge the gap between spiritual wisdom and scientific inquiry. It’s a reminder that both paths can lead us to profound truths about our universe and ourselves. This kind of dialogue enriches our understanding of both Buddhism and science, and I appreciate your thoughtful contribution to our conversation. If you have more insights, or if there are other aspects of Buddhist teachings or scientific theories you’d like to explore, please continue to share. Let’s keep delving into these deep and fascinating topics together!

I am honored to receive your reply. Today, there is no end to conflicts between the Abrahamic religions in the world. In this situation, I think that only Buddhist teachings and cosmic thinking will save humanity. But the world knows only God, always God. So I would like to continue to say my research results on SNS, hoping that people will know the affinity between science and Buddhism, and that the world will pay attention to Buddhism. Thank you.

This is a good presentation. Thank you. But I can't understand the fact why people still do not highlight the fact that Buddhism is not a religion like other ones. It is an entirely different concept and Einstein knew it from the non-religious point of view. I also can't understand why even the Buddhist monks, who know this very well are unable to clear this misunderstanding out to the people?

If I may, it is not like you learn from books. You will have to follow Buddha's clear instruction; do not believe me or him, practice hard of my instructions how to free from suffering. Anyone can benefit from it. Come and test at any given time. There are many meditation centers in western countries. In short, you have to earn it by your own hard work. Monks could only give specific guidance. Can go there, learn basic needs and try hard. If you are serious, you will find yourself in the new world; mind blowing results.

The quote of the Buddha saying what good does it do to understand the universe when it does nothing to help end human suffering reminds me of a Bob Marley Lyric: “they’re sailing on their ego trip, blast off in their space ship. A million miles from reality, no care for you no care for me”. The song is So Much Trouble in the World.

Buddha's teaching is not a religion or a philosophy, but a path. He said, don't believe things written in or someone said, even what I said, believe yourself and try to understand the science of this "world" from us. No one can support you except yourself. If we can deeply understand how our mind works and how it interacts with the environment around us through the six senses, we can be a gatekeeper of our mind according to the profound lessons taught by Buddha. In that way, we will be able to live very freely in this life and also stop catching the next physical body for this "packet of information" that was with us and developed by ourselves as an operating system.

Every time a westerner (American, Canadian, German, European, Jew v.v... 0:03 ) shows his/her admiration to Lord Gautama Buddha, there are always some hindu/hindus Maras jumps in and declare that buddhism is hinduism or Buddha Teachings essentially are hindu/veda teaching. Please, please do not obstruct or interfere others from learning Buddha teaching. Buddha teachings is good or bad or the same or not the same as vedas/hindu, let he/she (truth seeker) decides. To those tourist money-hungy Nepaleses who keep saying Buddha was born in Nepal: You are saying it with bad intentions; thus, committed bad karma. If you wish your Nepal become more prosperous, practice dharma like Tibetans.

In me 52 years of meditating - Zen and Raja Yoga (Heartfulness) - one has 2 real interests - is the method effective and flexible - and is the Master - a capable one. These were the only vital issues - thoroughly tested and practiced. The rest of life - one just muddled through. One lived under apartheid, poverty and diabetes and now under the over mentalised civilisation. May our hearts and minds be open - and harmonised - and live - with 'Love is the Base.' Fare thee well.
