Please stop with « most underrated » or « the GOAT » !! You can see this kind of comment on any video of a famous artist. In the end of the day, are they all underrated or all GOAT ? Ridiculous. And I love Albert Lee ...
I saw Albert play last night in London. Mind blowing gig. 69 years old and he's totally undiminished - in his picking and vocally. Threw in a few Gram Parsons, Emmylou and Travelling Wilburys covers and a barnstorming version of Country Boy. One of the real all time greats and great to chat to afterwards.
I don't think the point was to impress anyone, it's just one of his signature songs. It's part of his style and has a grace to it that's hard to beat. Keep in mind too the Albert Lee never really hit it big on his own but he was and still is one of the most sought after studio musicians in the world. The best of the current and previous generation all name him as inspiration, even Clapton and BB King look to him. Even if he never made Rolling Stones list of the 100 greatest guitarist.
He comes from near Leominster, Herefordshire England... right in the middle of some very beautiful countryside, in the most uninhabited county in England....I can assure you he is very much a country boy.
Happy 78th birthday Albert! Brilliant guitarist. Have been lucky to meet him twice, so friendly and down to earth, no 'big I am' about him. Great video.
His picking is not just exceptionl dexterity and rapidity but also keeping the rthythm in his head and catching the phrases by the end of the mesure sometime in extremis.
This is one of several videos I watch at least once a day. The more I watch, the more impossible his licks seem. When I think I'm getting pretty good I play this, and zonk down goes my ego. Albert YOU are the MAN!!! Period.
This guy is phenomenal. I've had the priviledge of seeing him live on a few occasions and even meeting him once. He's the most unassuming guy, so nice and down to earth for a guy with such an amazing talent. This was a great vid.
Wow. I've been a fan of this guy since the Heads Hands and Feet days (1970s) and I STILL can't believe he does the stuff he does. It's like watching some incredible magic act. Just when you think he CAN'T get any better, he does.
Albert is THE reference in country music guitar ! At this time ... (he was benind Emmylou Harris) some others asked to have their tapes accelerated in studio ! This one, played on stage !
I live in a rural area. I've spent a lot of time off the grid, and hadn't heard of Albert Lee. Just came here to see what he's like because he will be playing LIVE just down the road in an outdoor venue. So what do you think, should I go see him? ;-) Yeah, I guess I will! Tommy Emmanuel played there two years ago, the most humble person I've ever seen on stage, very clear spirit. Loved him!
When I first heard Albert Lee play, I thought "well since he chicken picks this damn good, he must be another American player and lives in Nashville. Nope, he's a Brit like Jeff Beck and Keith Richards, but holy shit, he can play that fluid. Respect !
Some players have said that they would prefer him playing a tele. I love the tone he gets out of that Ernie Ball. It's got the tele twang and strat out of phase sound. He is amazing.
How the hell? I just watched him do this for a concert on the tv and my frame rate couldn't keep up with his hands! Damn, this sure beats the wind out of the metalheads, Albert Lee rules!
@@rbagel55 good call. . .but easy . . .Yngwie . . . .garbage. . . . .Satriano ? - amateur . . .but actually both Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs do this song really fking well . . . .but somehow Albert put alot more stocatto into it.
@@randymack2972 I'd probably would like Yngwie a little more if he wasn't so fucking arrogant. Yngwie is a technical player. But all I ever hear from him is the same stuff he's been doing forever. I can only listen to him for so long before it bores me.
@@rbagel55 so true lol, Yngwie is so arrogant it makes it hard to even listen to him. I love his playing but I can't not remember the arrogant shit he says constantly. Then on the opposite side of the spectrum you have a player like Albert Lee that just exudes class and humility.
he was once asked in an interview what was one of the highlights of his career? His answer? "I got to play with Emmylou Harris". Nicest guy I have met. AND, Eric Clapton bows to him.
if this was golf...it would be a hole in one...if this was baseball...that would be a homerun...but since it's great country music...we'll just say it's Albert Lee
Sorry I haven't been on here for a while... Albert was on TOP FORM, Hogan's Heroes were brilliant too! I was right at the front, loved Cryin In The Rain with Albert on piano, so many fab songs, check out their new album called 'Like This'... Met Albert afterwards and he was as warm and friendly as ever, what a truly wonderful guy!
Just saw him tonight at the Ark in Ann Arbor. Phenomenal musician - guitar of course but he also sings really well - and a great band. Such a clean sound - just a Music Man guitar through a Fender Twin - no effects pedals. And a great storyteller. Told a long rambling story about his association with Don and Phil Everly and about how Eric Clapton fired his band (including Lee) twice in 5 years. 79 and still rockin'!
He is amazing! His biography by Derek Watts (which only goes up to 2007, when he'd been playing for 47 years!) tells the story of his astounding career.
He's the best there is...Strange how he's managed to remain in the the shadows when the the very top guitarists alive today including Eric Clapton state Albert's the best guitarist in the world... Perhaps Albert's humble and unassumming demeanor and gentlemanly character get in the way... Regardless Albert is the master picker....and I should add he sings beautifully....
Credit to Ricky Skaggs too, who wrote this masterclass in picking....and does it equally well. But we owe Albert for bringing it over to us British wannabes...and his Every Brothers show ,only shows us what a gracious ,modest and humble player he is Like Mark Knopfler. He serves the song!
Fake Country, "That" piano player is nobody less than Swedish Johan Blohm. He played in "The Refleshments" , a gold and platinum winning band with Albert Lee. Also with Dave Edmunds, Eric Clapton, Vince Gill etc. He's also a vocalist and excels in playing Boogie Woogie. Check him out on RU-vid, you'll find it worth your time !
I've heard & studied 'em all, going back to the 50's when I first played gtr, but my oh my, Albert takes the prize. I first met Albert-1979 @ Irish Club in B'ham UK, & 4 times since. None would ever know or suspect from his quiet & gentle conversation..A guitar genius, & any honest & sincere guitar players just have to admit the best. When he played in Emmy Lou Harris's "Hot Band" way back, she said, "folk try to emulate him but they can't" . ( NB * I think that's Sterling Ball on Bass- son of the strings maker EARNIE BALL.)
The most annoying thing about the brilliant Albert Lee is that he is this good on the keyboard a well. You'd think that the devil must have made him, but the truth is that he's a lovely, humble and sweet man.
Unlike other country guitar monsters like Brent Mason and Brad Paisley Albert Lees soloing still sounds amazing when played real slow. Try to slow it down to half speed with any music editing software. It still sounds amazing! You can hear how ingeniously he chooses his lines!
lmao, amazing! I loved this song so much when it was originally released - 1979?? It's the reason I wanted to learn the guitar, and it's also the reason why I gave up trying...
I can't understand why there are 37 dislikes ( Thumbs down) , these are people who are full of envy and wish they could play like him, or people who just don't recognise pure genius.
heads hands and feet were so far ahead of their time . albert lee just keeps getting better and better ,,, if you can find any heads hands and feet vinyl pick it up and sit down and listen . I think the double album is by far the best
whoa. Albert Lee has forever been, and will forever be quite without peer. No brag. Just fact. And all the while, the kindest and most humble man in the room.
Why do people insist on comparing who's the best instead of simply enjoying the video and guitar player featured here? No matter if you like someone else better, this guy is phenomenal and will out pick any of us. If you would rather watch another player, then please go watch their videos and STFU.
Man, I'm a metalhead and I've heard the name Albert Lee before, but didn't check him until recently... He totally blows my mind!! Does any of you know of other equally amazing country guitarists ?? I really like this now! ALBERT LEE FTW!!!
