Stocked with several million trout annually, Alberta is a trout anglers dream. Mostly rainbows are stocked in the province, however, plenty of brown and brook trout are available to anglers fishing Pautzke salmon eggs, spoons, spinners and flies. From the prairies to the Canadian Rockies trout are more than abundant in this portion of Canada and often stocked in easy to reach lakes and reservoirs.
Team Pautzke hooked up with the folks from the Alberta Environment & Parks to feature the region's trout fishing while filming this episode of Pautzke Outdoors. Armed with Gold Label, Orange Deluxe, Yellow Jacket and Premium Balls O Fire salmon eggs we caught and released (and kept a few for the grill) dozens of trout in a few short hours. They are good out of cold water, but not so much out of the stocked ponds.

Went trolling at Birch Lake yesterday and caught at least 30 trout, lost quite a few nice ones tho. Our biggest landed fish was around a 20 inch rainbow but I made my Dad let it go. I, myself caught nothing but brookies and damn they tasted good, we also brought home a small rainbow which swallowed the hook. "This video was made a while ago and is only 1 out of the millions one good fishing destinations, but if you ever plan on visiting again, or maybe you have already idk, or even end up seeing this comment, they put up a locked, yellow gate so you can't drive down the hill to the water. It's a good thing because a lot of people are lazy and don't wanna carry their equipment down. I was expecting 20 boats but that wasn't the case. The best fishing for us is on the far East side. My Dad was using Gibbs Willow Leaf troll blades which got him down deep, with about a two foot leader with a little baitholder hook and a worm. I was doing the same thing but with lighter flasher blades on mine which kept me up shallow, and I could easily feel the strikes. At one point I was reeling in quick to check my hook after a strike and a little brown swiped at it right beside the boat. I bet the only two fly fishermen on the lake thought we were scum because of all the noise we were making, and the equipment we were using, but it was fun. We also saw a black bear as we were pulling out.
