I painted my bicycle red white and blue you can see it on my RU-vid channel. The red and blue are just hints, Flag Blue is too dark for a bicycle so I used Air Force 1 blue. it was never supposed to look like a flag or anything just I like the color combination, red white and blue is used a lot.
#torqueback how come the UCI enforce a 6.8 kg min weight limit for safety but then allow lighter bikes to meet this threshold by adding weight which basically no impact on making the bike safer?
That's because back in the day the way to lighten a bike was to drill everything out and the process caused the bikes to become unsafe. With today's materials and manufacturing drilling is a thing of the past and the UCI should reconsider this rule for the reasons that you state.
EastbayGolfer yes but still, I don't think the issue is updating the number alone. If the UCI decide that the weight limit should be reduced to, say, 4 kg and a manufacturer manages to build a bike that weighs 3.5, it will start all over again. If it is safety they want, they should dictate that a bike should weigh this or that with the required components and nothing else
I don't know about better than Contador's, but I saw a handful of pro bikes at the Tour Of Britain in 2014. Marcel Kittel's Propel and Brad Wiggins' Pinarello Dogma (Sky edition not Team Wiggins) really stood out to me. Both absolutely immaculately clean and perfectly put together; and both seemed a cut above their respective team mates.
first year of Contador on electronic gears - he has always favoured mechanical groupsets right up until last season! Interesting to see he's finally changed...
they won't, the will only provide a Shimano crank PM. They don't want to waste time to remake other cranks styles, technology and standard. Shimano has not even make BB30 or carbon cranks yet
Prashant Pradhan thats a very expensive proposition as they have to fund research and dev and then build a new production line. Just to get it started would mean millions of dollars spend.
Jay G they already have spent all that money and built the production facility for the new DA cranks. No brainier to trickle it down, production of these is probably less than £100...
that is such a blemish on the TDF stats. incredible how they just destroyed his chance of making history with his points jersey winning streak :( so sad.
Regarding the rear brake, I've heard that Alberto releases/widens his rear brake when climbing to allow for the flexible nature of lightweight wheels and frames and then re-engages it when he crests in time for the descent. I think he was spotted doing it during the Criterium de Dauphine or Tour de Suisse (can't remember which one).
Stage 18 of the 2013 Tour de France, Condator is in 2nd place on GC when he makes a solo break on the descent before the final climb on Alpe d'heuez. It a success. He's away from Froome and the other GC contenders. Then - inexplicably - he stops to change bikes and is caught by the other riders. Coincidentally, around the same time the teams are informed that there would be a control at the end of the stage and all bikes would be tested to check they confirmed with UCI limits on weight (amongst other things). So I'm glad you weighed the bike and I'm glad the team's mechanics always add weight to ensure UCI compliance.
Does anyone know of an aftermarket 9100 derailleur bolt that sticks out as far as the old rear derailleur? I like the idea of a longer cage, but I'd rather replace my $200 derailleur or an extended bolt than my $5000 frame if I lay the bike down!
#torqueBack I learnd that there are training zones namen: kb-> active recovery, GA1-> endurence, GA2-> next hardest, EB-> next hardest, SB-> all over EB is this. How can I combine this with words like threshhold, sweetspot and tempo. Are they exact the same thing and have different names or is this a complete different thing? And is FTP the power the power when if you go over it that you cant hold this power for long?
Given the waxing lyrical over how well the bike is maintained and sorted: @0:27 I spy oil on the inside of the Chain-stay.. and on white it tends to notice :). #Cleanbike
Hi this is Dan from Canada, just getting back into cycling. Please do a video testing rim weight vs frame weight, perhaps on flat, climb and sprint. I hear all different quotes about savings difference, but curious about what your test might show. Thanks!!
Why do people keep saying the 9100 brakes are on\off? Their QR have heavy friction which holds very well at any point. They're not indexed for easily stopping at any point, but can be set pretty easily.
... I get the double wrap bit but I think the top layer is going from top to bottom ... and held in place with the bar plugs ... looks very neat though!!
I thought the main reason back in the day for introducing the min weight limit was safety. If now attachments like the velon can be included, the UCI made their own rule redundant. Will we see changes to that rule? #TorqueBack
This is my first road ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
Did anyone else notice the bar tape is wrapped from the top down instead of from the bar end up? Are there any other pro bikes with bar tape wrapped like this?
Tell Alberto's mechanic if they build him a 28 spoke rear wheel, it will be laterally and overall stiffer than these and he won't have to release the brakes due to rub and therefore can run the newer brakes. I'm sure the pros can get them drilled.
Tape from the stem to the ends of bar and then tuck it in the plugs. Harder to get right and unwraps faster,, but if you use adhesive bar tape, looks really nice. Heck, he has spotless white tape that must get replaced every couple of rides vice my black tape that is replaced every couple of months.
... pause at (0:56) and the tape has the exposed edge upwards ... certainly looks like it is going from top to bottom thus contravening unwritten rule 56.1b - Orientation of bar tape shall always ascend towards stem and finish with insulating tape, discarding any finishing tape supplied by manufacturer of said bar covering :-D!!
It's quite a bit lighter, always has been. The new S-Works Tarmac frame is supposed to be 733 grams vs Emonda SLR which is 640. Although the NEW Emondas are all made in Taiwan now. No biggie, they're made in the same place.
Calnago from the weightweenies forum? Seriously his bikes are immaculate and well thought out. weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=142391
I was thinking the same thing. ...and some of my bicycles are 20+ years old, so they will enter the masters competition. :) my chromoly bicycle will go up against any pro bicycle 20+ years old!
lol it did look like the brake was off center too. but i have noticed a larger gap than usual on his bikes before. because of the brakes rubbing when he's out of the saddle so much. thats also why he prefers the old brakes. so he can let out even more room for his climbing out of the saddle. i noticed him adjust it a few times at the bottom of the climbs in the tour. and then at the top of the climb, he made them tighter again for the descent
Mr.ActionGal101 IMO the new dura ace lever issue is a big FUBAR, and the pros know it too. They need version 2.1. Maybe someone can come up with an aftermarket lever to fix it. I'm surprised the pros didn't catch it in development, since Shimano touts their pro development program. So far it looks like you could buy the old 9000 groupset cheaper, and add the rear derailleur if you want more than 28 teeth. You could maybe buff off the black paint on part of the rear derailleur to make it pretty like the old stuff!
Roger Honacki i fully agree! i run full dura ace 9000 mechanical. and i have ZERO reasons to update. its flawless. i could see if i was on the di2 version and i wanted stay di2 and wanted the newest and greatest di2. but as far as looks, and functionality... i would much rather have the mechanical dura 9000 over the current gen dura ace. not to mention i think the cranks are hideous
If the weight of the wheels goes towards the uci weight limit why don't pro riders go with more aero wheels, which would add weight, and reduce the weight they add to a bike? #torqueback
