Tara - Such an amazing record collection! Truly a special gift! Those look like they are in fantastic condition too! You deserve it for how you cherish vintage rock.
Hi, some great records there plus family harmony guaranteed now Tara has less need to nick Dad’s records. The Velvet Underground and Nico, Autobahn and London Calling three of my favourite albums. @Tara, be interested to hear what you think the the Velvet Underground once you’ve had to chance to give it a good listen. Everyone needs some Stranglers in the lives. Never thought of Rattus as a gateway to prog before but now you mention it, Down in the Sewer is very orchestral….🤔. God bless Jim! Andy
Thanks Andy. Jim is great... Instant fabulous collection... Will let you know what I think of Velvet Underground. You're right too. There's a lot more harmony in the house. 😂
Hello from New Zealand. Good collection of records. I'm in my sixties in age, and I have a large music collection. From the 1960s to the early 2000s. I liked the British Glam Rock scene in the 70s. T Rex was a favorite of mine. I love that song Ride a White Swan. It was sad about his death in 1977. He liked Punk Rock music and so do I, I like the Stranglers and the Sex Pistols. I saw John Lydon and his group Public Image Ltd in the 1980s. I also had the pleasure of seeing David Bowie in concert in 1978 here in NZ. He toured with his Stage concert at that time. It was blast. It's great to see you younger generation into music that i was into from the past. From Carl.
Thanks Carl. We love hearing about concert experiences. The list you saw is really impressive. The music brings the two of us together and it's brought us together with loads of people around the world. 👍
That's a great haul by any stretch of the imagination !! Jim knocked it out of the park with his generosity , there's an awful lot of classic rock and prog in there. What a gentleman indeed. 👍 Funny how 90125 caused such a reaction Tara !! 😂 Haha. And leaving Topographic Oceans until your last showing too... it's No 1 of course. Excellent. Be interesting to see more of Jim's gifts to you Dermot , you look well happy with your lot too , and your feline friend is quite obviously a dedicated Prog fan. Excellent stuff guys !!....Peter. 😍👍
Nice collection. Several months ago I went back to vinyl and is slowly growing and a lot of the ones in your collection I have also but some I don't have but will someday. You have good taste in music 😎👍
What a great range of classic 70s rock albums from Jim....noticing Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells...i would recommend Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn his 3rd release that is a great listen.
Jim has loads of CDs and yes John Martyn is among them ,,,,he lived not to far away from me....he was up up up over the hill....anyway i got to see him in Thomastown a few years before he died,,,he was in a wheelchair but the performance was brilliant,,Danny Thomson on bass who also played with Tim Buckley among others........ @@SpinninProg
i'd like to thank Metalmartymac and Markspooner,,and all other guys nice comments...as regards Dermot and Tara,,their pleasure is my pleasure...i'm still loving cds to which i have tons and spotify and youtube...prog corner for me is like mana from Heaven and its right on my doorstep.....its just a killer channel for budding progers old and new....its like Dermot and Tara have a PHD in prog,,their analysis hits the right NOTES.......
wear'e all in this together,,the music speaks for everyone.....its got power and soul...i pla@@SpinninProgyed a few hours of Gong today,, my workmate thought i was mad....and when he strokes his gong my middle eye comes on.....make of that what you will........
just keep loving the music,,i'm 64 and i still love my music,,the albums were lying there,,i have loads of prog CDs ...so keep on rocking in the free world.....@@SpinninProg
Score! The Plumb Led Zep and Yes sound so good. Camels first is great and hard to find in the states. I have it on cd but can't find on vinyl for a reasonable price. Oh well I'll keep looking. Cheers you guys, you have many hours of great music to listen to!
Your Doors’ story is fascinating! I sold my entire collection as well but for a different reason. I went through a period in high school where I was literally obsessed with them after reading Jim Morrison’s biography. I became so burnt out that I could no longer listen to those albums. at this point, I would like to buy back a couple. I’m thinking “strange days“ and “waiting for the sun“
Can I just say..that Jim has been 100% Mancunianist, in his recipient selection...OUTRAGEOUS...grizzle..gnash..whinge..etc...ps I saw Roxy at the Lincoln Festival in May 1972, they were brilliant I have all the first four LPs
@SpinninProg I think the first formation of Roxy was the very best the one with Brian Eno, I genuinely believe the first Roxy LP was one of the very finest" First LPs" in that it really was like absolutely nothing else, undoubtedly Prog too, Stranded, For Your Pleasure and Country Life all classics..people make a case for Siren and Manifesto but...weren't Roxy becoming a bit of a Brian Ferry Backing band by then? I'm probably being harsh but in 1972 they were genuinely awesome. Interesting (nerdy..anorak) factoid, (Prog Credentials) Brian Ferry very nearly got the vocalist job in King Crimson..true
@@brianoakley980 That's all great Brian. I saw Roxy live. They were one of the most energetic, entertaining, musical and fun acts I've ever seen. We have a couple of Roxy albums:For Your Pleasure and Stranded. Both great and I would agree, Prog. 👍
@SpinninProg I know I'm having my pants pulled right down, but today I got the 50th Machine Head Deep Purple CD/Vinyl thingy....look...its REALLY GOOD, just saying
@@brianoakley980 That is an incredible album and it had a huge effect on me as a young guy. It is great to see it getting the respect it deserves. It straddles so many genres and pulls them off through sheer quality of the musicianship and performance on it. I think I'll have to give it a spin now. Aaaaaagh Brian, what have you done!!!! The neighbours will love me. 😂😂😂
98% of these albums are required listening. I would probably throw out that Roxy Music Greatest Hits album and go out and score the original Roxy Music albums. A great band no one seems to talk about.
What an excellent pile of albums to be had there. I noticed when Tara was showing hers that many had some kind of outer protective sleeve. If they are the type that are "hard", that means its made of PVC, which are bad news because they can cause what's called "vinyl misting", so I suggest you immediately throw them away and/or replace with Polythene ones. Fun fact: That's Cozy Powell on drums on Donovan's 'Cosmic Wheels' album.
@apollomemories...yes, I've seen a RU-vid vid about how the plastic of the pvc sleeves migrates in to the vinyl through the cover if it isn't laminated.
you look great Tara..considering all that mega Birthday Present you stumbled across...i must stress that i'm rocking away on spotify....only thing is the paintbrush tends to wander sometimes like the crash of a cymbal (Dreamtheater) all morning,,,trying get that stuff going thanks to Dermot.......
Hey Tara, such lovely albums. I'm so happy for you! (I just now realized that I don't own a copy of Foxtrot -- what's the matter with me!?) Anyway, I have been enjoying your channel quite a lot recently and thought that I could make you a nice animated intro with the logo you already have. Make it fullscreen and spinnin' and whatnot ;) Let me know if you're interested, it'd be my pleasure!
So happy for you guys! Its people like Jim that still give me faith in humanity. Was sorry to see your haul didn't include Soft Machine Third but you'll eventually score that one, I'm sure. I don't know how many on here agree with me about Never Mind The Bollocks, but to me, it's a phenomenal piece of loud punky rock. I've always loved it. I have never understood how The Stranglers got a punk label. They are proficient musicians playing proggy stuff in a different vein. Plus, how the hell can you call a band punk whose keyboardist has long hair and a mustache? Cmon, man...Same exact situation with the American band Television. It aint punk. And lastly, you might be happy to own it, but Sabbath's Live At Last is in the top five of worst recorded albums of all time. Mine sounds awful. My brothers copy sounded awful, and sadly, I think yours will too. But what a haul!
agreed..i went to see the stranglers 1977 in the city hall in Cork and slept in a doorway with my 2 buddies,,that was punk but the band weren't although brilliant,,,totally different than a sex pistols concert where you might get a kick in the head.....your right about Television,,Tom Verlaine went on to produce Geoff Buckley...he was no ordinary head banger.....
tara you can.t call it a little haul 😂 funny enough there were only 5 or 6 records i don t own myself .so much essential records .you have got .you must be excited . i think you left a few for your farther 😊
Yes. Tara had first refusal on the records. But most of what she got were ones I already had. So she won't be borrowing mine as much. There should be more harmony now... I hope. 😂
What a fantastic gesture from Jim👍🏻 But I have to ask a question guys. What's the story with Dermot covering Made In Japan in shoe polish? Why not use Come Taste The Band cos Blackmore didn't play on that one and it's rubbish😉
I was trying to fix a scratch and was advised to use boot polish and play the album with a load of coins on the stylus. It worked with the old systems we had then. Now it's a bit of a problem because it is messing up these new fangled fancy needles. 😂🤣😂
@@SpinninProgI've never heard of trying to fix a scratch with boot polish Dermot🙈, but I'm definitely guilty of trying to listen to warped albums or bad pressings (where the needle skips or sticks) by putting a coin on the stylus. I couldn't wait to ditch vinyl and jump ship to CDs when they emerged. Plus you could skip tracks at the push of a button rather than get up and physically move the tone arm to skip a dodgy ballad 🤭
@@terrywalker8446 Too true Terry. We both love vinyl, but also have a big CD collection. They get a bad rap. The sound can be great too, depending on if they are suitably mastered. Just forget you ever heard of the boot polish trick, for the sake of sanity. 😂🤣😂
@@SpinninProg You'll get all that polish off with Isopropyl alcohol. Available from your local chemists. Saturate dirty surface, leave for an hour, brush groove thoroughly with old toothbrush, rinse off. Sorted.
