Have been looking forward to this episode ever since a rematch was announced on an earlier SoT episode. Didn't think I could laugh as hard as the first Homework Assignment with Simon and Steven but was proven wrong yet again. Hilarious episode but also so informative about music that I likely would never track down and listen to otherwise. Took some time to listen to tracks from each of these albums before commenting. Steven's impression of the Japanese 'plunking' instrument was great - including the last concluding strum. These two demonstrate a synergy with these appearances even though their separate personalities definitely are a study of compare and contrast. And Howling Willie? Winner of the non-PC anti-woke award. Pete has a great way of moving these two gents along while adding to the fun of the episode. So thanks, Simon and Steven, for repeating your match-up on Album Homework Assignment. Hope to see you in a third go-around. And thank you, too, Pete, for getting these two back together for another Homework Assignment. Cheers to the UK connection!

Thanks guys, another great entertaining show - just the thing for a cold Sunday afternoon. The Dream Spirit- or as Spotify writes it Dreamspirit - General Triumphant and the previous album, Mountains and Rivers, are both on Spotify, just added to my library, not as batshit crazy as Onmyo-Za are, however not a bad listen at all - the use of the more traditional Chinese folk instruments adds a bit of interest - those folk interludes reminded me a bit of those earlier Rhapsody albums. I've not listened to both albums all the way through yet but what I have heard sounds pretty good - General Triumphant has a fuller sound than Mountains and Rivers, and the guitarist,as Steven says, is very good, Dont think I'll try to find Howling Willie See You Next Tuesday's World of Filth - but if I did ever find it I'd probably give it a listen just out of curiosity - not squeamish about hearing vulgarity and filth but for offensive comedy I'll stick with those Derek and Clive Live albums from Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

@@TranquilityFireReid in the hope you pick up this tag, I noticed on the SoT website you reviewed Steve Hillage's Searching for the Spark. Just a thought, but how about a career perspective/album ranking of his work? Such a pioneering artist (in so many ways) and, in my opinion, a much underappreciated guitar-playing genius and all-round musical visionary. He's had a fascinating career, featuring stuff that's ahead of its time. He's never been afraid to forge a path in unexpected directions, rarely resting on any laurels or a well-trodden formula. One of the less-prominent greats from our creative shores.

@@arbonne1805 It certainly would make a fascinating show and one I'd watch for sure. Unfortunately I don't personally have the knowledge to be the guy to put it together. Whay I got a shoutout! Like my dad said they are significantly heavier, and I would say better, live than on the album. So much so that I was hugely disappointed by the actual album so their live albums are probably better to listen to to get a proper sense of the band. I will play your pronunciations to the missus to check the correct pronunciations and so she can laugh as I don't speak much Mandarin (enough to know they were all wrong though. - Cao Cao is kinda pronounced T'zow T'zow for example) One final note, there is definitely a big scene in China, incredibly incredibly difficult to find out about though owing to China's internal search systems and what not though. Does seem from just seeing some metal kids here and there though that your hardcore/deathcore extreme metal stylings are more popular - lots of cannibal corpse t-shirts around. Sadly Beijing's preeminent metal bar - Temple - closed due to the pandemic though so no clue where the Beijing scene is hanging around now.

Man, I have never laughed so much watching an episode of SOT as I did with this one! You guys certainly make interesting picks! The talk about Howling Willy reminded me of a guy from the Buffalo area named John Valby, otherwise known as "Dr. Dirty," who plays the piano and basically does the filthiest, funniest and most offensive songs you can imagine. He wasn't even allowed to perform in Canada, as he was deemed too obscene. Funny as all hell though. I've got a couple of his records in my collection, and it's the sort of thing that would not go over well in these politically correct times. I think he has retired now. I've seen some photos from his live shows, and the antics he used to get up to were just as you would imagine. Here in Canada we had McLean & McLean, two brothers from the east coast who were very funny and a huge live draw in the clubs. Not everything they did was dirty or offensive, but a lot was. Just as an example, one of their albums is titled "McLean & McLean Take The "O" Out Of Country," and one of the most popular songs from that album was called "Dolly Parton's Tits," so I really don't need to say more!

Good panel again...The Wildhearts - I have 4 of their albums & my fave by far is Coupled With (a compilation). Nothing from Howling Willie, that "most offensive album ever" is enough to put me off to be honest. I guess that's actually a Ginger solo record, whatever - not for me. His Wildhearts (the band) stuff isn't bad, pretty energetic rock, my fave track is probably "Stormy In The North, Karma In The South". Pretty catchy tunes in a power-pop sorta way, I even get occasional hints of Jam-like vibes (but not as punky). Good vocals & guitars. No comment on The Dream Spirit, metal's not really my thing (and especially Japanese metal)...This was maybe the most entertaining SoT episode (due to the reviewers' personalities mainly) that I didn't really end up caring about
