OH MY GOOOODDDD... We have just realised the whole album is about the painful process of losing her Albums and the relationship with Scott (her record label) and the betrayal she felt went he sold her albums .... it's about the music, the fans and him (the love triangle)...but written like folklore... stories....with the underlying message of how she feels experiencing this.
@@joanedelacruz3844 omg yes i think so it's crazy how different we see the album already! My tears ricochet- to scott Cardigain - to the fans Mirrorball - the fans/joe Hoax - scott invisible string - joe EEEEkkkkkkkk
@@catherine6510 I have, I’ve been a swiftie since rep. I’ve tried to listen to it multiple times to force me to like it, but there’s just too many skips. Almost all the songs on the regular version are skips except Lavender Haze, Yoyok, and Labyrinth, maybe bejeweled. The 3 ams are good though Edit: also, I would never say this is her best work 😭 Lover in my opinion was her best work for the masterpiece it is, though it was my least favorite era
Illicit affairs I think is my favourite song on the album. People always make a villain out the other woman but this song really shows you that are no winners and everyone gets hurt in their own way.
My favorites on folklore are illicit affairs and august. And on evermore, it’s ivy. All of them are about forbidden love. These songs evoke feelings of deep longing and I’m in love with it
Wait I’m a year late and your the only comment k can find talking about illicit affairs and I’m pissed no one is talking about the callback to “ The Outside” when she says “Take the road less traveled by”
My tears ricochet is DEFINITELY ab Scott. “Stolen lullabies”, “cursing my name wishing I stayed”, she’s spoken about how she’s cried to him, etc. the best song
Yeah I feel like it's about Calvin or some other ex, and the lyric just says that when that person can't sleep at night, he hears her stolen lullabies, which only references her songs from her past albums (which were stolen from her by Scott) that were probably about that ex?
It's adorable and hilarious that you guys LITERALLY read aloud that most of these songs are fictionalized and yet every song you were all like, "This is Joe!" "This is Calvin!" lmao
Im kinda jealous that you guys have this circle of friends who you can share your theories and gushing about how relatable and great Taylor Swift is as a song writer a singer and a person, but im also glad to find this channel that makes me feel that im not alone of feeling this way about her and its enjoyable to watch your reactions and theories 🤗
She and her roommate Amanda (who was also off camera) have an amazing podcast called To Be Honest. You guys should check it out! If i'm not wrong, the next episode will be about Taylor's discography
Fun fact: the strings in august were recorded by some musicians in florida who had no idea! they were approached randomly and asked to record some music with no context. they only found out what it was when they heard it in folklore when it was realeased!
Aaron Dessner did most of the co-writing and the production on this album. He’s from “The National” and is the driving force on this album. So much so that Jack had to change his approach knowing that they were onto something better than ever before. My old friend JT also plays drums on a couple of tunes. Not saying Jack didn’t do a good job on the two songs that he did, but Aaron is a musical and lyrical genius. A beautiful album. One of the best albums in years to be quite honest ❤️
Umm... I know ur a swiftie fan but, we have only ONE god and he perfect Taylor is not god and no where’s near perfect. I don’t care if ur drooling over her new album folklore. I’ve literally listened to her new album and to be honest it’s way to slow and too mellow. And the fact that she did this to get even with Scooter Braun is crazy. I get what he did was wrong I do but, to write bad about somebody who did her wrong is childish. She making him out to be completely evil. It’s 2020 and Taylor is STILL talking about scooter. Get over it!
The way one of you said “tortured” and then soon after another of you said she is a poet. And then Taylor invited you to a concert in the VIP tent… such foreshadowing. ❤
I’m rewatching this and it’s so funny now that we know way more about this album. The fact that they called Aaron Dessner “this random Aaron guy” makes me dead 💀 we had no idea what was coming
@@miaflint9146 and also like they are saying this song is about Calvin or this is about some other but actually it's about fictional characters. And Mad woman is not about Kanye. You know things like these that we figured out wayyy later
This was my thought the first time I heard Hoax. Haha. Especially with the line 'dont want no other shade of blue but you' as we all know Taylor associates blue with Joe. But in Hoax I think when she says that blue line she means Bluebird Cafe, where she was discovered by Scott. She says that line coz she cherishes the fact that it was Scott who took a chance on her even tho he turned her down in the future. This is further proved by the line 'but what you did was just as dark, when they pulled me apart.' Coz she was comparing the pain when that Kanye fiasco happened to what Scott did to her.
As a nurse, Epiphany fucks me up so much in the best of ways. I can’t listen to it without crying. She really captured the hopelessness we felt during the height of the pandemic
this is the album that made me a swiftie. i’ve only heard of tswift hits but when this came out 2 years ago, i was enamored by her storytelling. since then, i’ve watched everything i could watch and listened to everything i could listen made by taylor. i love her so much it hurts
I actually loved country Taylor and loved the transition into pop then i kind of left the swiftie fandom with reputation…this brought me back, I could never leave again lol
i will NEVER be the same after hearing this album. i am still speechless and overwhelmed and cannot process everything she has just said so perfectly?????? How does she keep getting better ?!?!?! I’m simply still in a state of shock
EPIPHANY: starts about her grandfather (WWII vet) (the beaches, bleeding out, some things you don't speak about) them being heroes... Second half: COVID heroes (heath care) (holding hands through plastic, breathe in - breathe out like a ventilator, what they don't teach you in med school) she's basically praising different types of heroes, and reflecting the pain they go through while still doing their jobs (someone's mother, daughter, short breaks to deal with it) imo This is such a POWERFUL song. Whenever I hear this song I picture veterans telling their stories and storming the beaches of Normandy and WWII experience and nurses/doctors working Covid front lines
This song makes me cry every time. From the first time I heard it I felt a deep emotional connection to it and her since I am a nurse who has held a number of elderly patients with covid’s hands as they take their last breathes without any family around and this song spoke that so true. When the album came out I was actually in quarantine since I got COVID while on the frontlines being the support for these poor patients who are fighting without family beside them. Wow this just hit me so hard. Will never not make me cry and feel all of the heart wrenching feelings. 😭😭
I initially heard the song Exile while driving in my car and when Bon Iver first sang "You never gave me any signs" followed by Taylor's echoed response line "I gave so many signs", I almost had to pull over because it's like my entire history of relationships. 😲
I'm a 72 year old Swiftie and I've watched reaction videos from producers, vocal coaches, guitarists, and any number of stans. You guys are the best. Just love your enthusiasm , your insight, your intelligence.
mirrorball is definitely about her desperation to be loved and being a people pleaser. she spoke about always reinventing herself to keep people interested in her, and i think this song is for fans or the general public, and how shes trying everything to make them love her
My girl literally got bored and wrote 16 masterpieces, and most of them weren't even about her experiences. Just stories she wrote because she's an icon.
I saw A theory that Mirrorball was about us fans and that her career is “coming to an end” but she wants us to know that she’s still gonna be there for us and she’ll have all the memories reflecting on us and we can always look back on it. When she said “I’ll be on my tallest tiptoes shinning just for you” she was saying that she does everything for us but her career is going to end at some point and she’s doing everything to keep us looking at her and supporting her
Yeah I thought the same from my initial listen. But everyone said it's about Joe. You don't change yourself for your lover. He or she will have to love you just as you are. It's definitely about the fans and I feel so sad. I'll even watch a video of Taylor swift making no absolute sense for the whole day! Though she always makes sense.
Yeah I thought so too! Her and her music being a mirrorball that everyone somehow can relate to or find their own feelings and experiences reflected through her songs. When she mentioned "Hush, I know they said the end is near..." its like she's whispering to us her fans, saying even though people say her reign in music is coming to an end, she is still enjoying herself in her tallest tiptoes dancing in her highest heels, shining just for us. And her bridge where she uses the different imagery to symbolize her different eras (circus = red, disco = pop/1989, horse & rodeo clowns = country), I think she's talking in line with what she mentioned in her Miss Americana documentary about how female artists constantly having to reinvent themselves to stay interesting and relevant.
Anusri Brahmachary Yes! Exactly, also just realized when she said “I’ve never been a natural all I do it try try try” she’s probably referring to us saying she’s such a good artist and how we love her writing skills and she’s basically taking our complement and saying all she ever did was try UGH THIS SONG IS SO GOOD
my tears ricochet is about her leaving big m*chine! "I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" (she took a stance pre/during AMAs and her Netflix doc), "stolen lullabies" (her masters being held hostage). SOOOOO much deeper than it seems!!!
@@Angel-fq9re my personal take was that mad woman was about Yael Cohen Braun, as she publicly shamed Taylor when she spoke out at SB selling BMR to Sc**ter
Francie Grasso yep it could be that too as much as ‘mad woman’ could apply to kimye as well which is why ‘folklore’ is genius because it can mean a lot of things
@@Angel-fq9re I think Mad Woman and My Tears Richochet are connected as they both use the same imagery of battle and ships going down / canons firing at your yacht. It could easily be about two things at the same time, a romantic relationship AND Scooter Braun ... and I love how she does that :)
I feel like “This Is Me Trying” is about her career and coming back to music, because of the line ‘I didn’t know if you’d care if I came back. I have a lot of regrets about that.’ And she’s said a lot she almost quit music after the whole drama, and it was the fans that brought her back.
I can't imagine what it could have been if she quit music at that time. How the world and especially my life would be existing without reputation, lover and now folklore... I don't even wanna think about it more
I feel like you two will appreciate this story so I want to tell you :) I’m from nyc and on May 5th 2010 (I was 12 at the time) my best friend, my sister and myself were walking down the street listening to Taylor’s Christmas album, yes, in May 😂 We stumbled upon an antique shop on 14th street and there were a few paparazzi outside of this store, I was so curious but the paparazzi told us we couldn’t go in. I wasn’t going to take no for an answer so I went in anyway, looked around, didn’t see anyone and then all of a sudden I look up to my right and Taylor is looking down at me and says “hello there” I couldn’t believe that what I was seeing was real. I said hello and that I loved her so much. Ran back outside to tell my friend and sister and we freaked out. We decided to wait outside and then her manager came outside and said “Taylor would like to have a picture with you three, please come in!” She invited us in the store and was the sweetest person you could ever imagine existing. I will never ever ever forget that day for as long as I live. If I could insert the picture here I would!!
AHHHHH OMG THAT IS AMAAZINNNGGGGGG I LOVE THIS FOR YOU!!!!! Omg and her Christmas album in May? YES!!! Her version of last Christmas is SUPERIOR I listen all year long!!! - Em
Why do I feel like I was the one meeting Taylor? I was probably feeling what you must have felt that day. Taylor is so down to earth. You truly are a lucky one!
From one Aussie folklore lover to another, thank you! Obsessed with everything about this. From your outfits matching your living room, to the John Mayer references, hand gestures and constant stream of 'I’m sorry...?!' 58 minutes of this energy made me feel refreshed, recharged and renewed 😂👏 x
@@urvishrivastava5510 its like right at the start... too busy listening to give exact timestamp -sorry- its def ‘the one’ or ‘cardigan’! That i can say for sure...
So I'm a Year 6 teacher and today I got my students to do a song analysis on My Tears Ricochet (because of course I'll incorporate Taylor Swift into my classroom if I can). I asked the kids why the music at the beginning was chosen. Funeral/ ghost inspired answers were the norm but I loved this explanation from one girl- "The music at the start is almost like it's a siren's call- eerie and enchanting... And just like a siren's call luring men in and killing them, the record label lured in Taylor Swift, made her feel loved but then ruined her too".
I actually thought it was about her younger self? "And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?" "You wear the same jewels that I gave you As you bury me" Like nodding to LWYMMD? Remember the music video? Idk, in Miss Americana, there was a lot of talk about her difficult relationship with herself, you know?
the whole album revolves around the woman who owned her rhode island home and the song my tears ricochet is about her divorced husband who was killed in the war (which is what epiphany is about) and the whole album tells the story of their relationship if you really listen however a lot of it has underlying messages which relate to taylor
hoax: “don’t want no other shade of blue, but you” delicate: “oh damn never seen that color blue” delicate: “deep blue but you painted me golden” red: “losing you was blue like i’ve never know” cruel summer: “and it’s blue, the feeling i’m getting”
Love returning to this video because that "random guy Aaron" has given us some of the best songs and I am still shook about this album dropped. And now m i d n i g h t s coming soon. Ahhh.
betty and cardigan are my favorites so far. I can’t get the lines “I’m only seventeen” and “I knew everything when I was young” out of my head. Also Betty is lowkey giving Fearless vibes? Which I guess makes total sense because it’s a teenage love story mixed with a slight country vibe. Obsessed with this album as whole. It’s driving down windy roads in Autumn. It’s log cabin. It’s everything I needed from her.
I love the shift in her album art, here and in evermore. She "removes" herself from the album's image, letting the music speak for itself. In prior albums, it was obviously her work. These show her in somewhat ambuiguity and at first glance you don't see her name or face. I feel like it speaks to her doing something that felt true to her and releasing it without the need for approval and applause. Make sense? lol
Hey guys!!! We cannot BELIEVE that we just launched this channel and Taylor just came along and DROPPED A BRAND NEW ALBUM ON US!!! We are so in love with this new sound - currently our favourites are august, cardigan, the 1, betty, the last great, my tears ricochet, invisible string and the last great American dynasty - but the ENTIRE ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE!! What are your favourites? We think that maybe she won’t tour this album and still end up touring Lover instead for more of a show! What do you think?? Either way, this album was the perfect change and next step for our QUEEN! What are all your thoughts on the more ‘break up’ type songs like Hoax??? Are they real…about Joe? Or are they just more stories, FOLKLORE, like Taylor has explained the album is? We would love your opinions!! Thanks for watching 🧡
@@gletergreish it would have to be a relationship before she was "torn apart", because she was still wounded from those events and this person did something too her that was equally worse.
I think they have broke up in some points, She keeps all her relationship in secret so we'll never know, the break up songs may be about some of this "breakups" and then we have Hoax where she talks about how toxic can be her relationship with joe, but she still cant leave him. (sorry for my english, "do you know how much intelligente am I in spanish")
Watching their reaction to ‘Exile’: Them: “He didn’t see the signs because he’s a FUCKING IDIOT!” Me, from a male perspective: Oh boy, I am not in the right place lol.
“Am I the only one who doesn’t like their reaction to Taylor Swift’s albums? It seems like they’re always trying to figure out who each song is about. For example, in ‘Illicit Affair,’ they say it’s about Joe like wtf? That song is about being side cheek!
My tears ricochet is for her stolen albums. I just realized...... I didn't have it in myself to go with grace - RED (State of Grace) 'Cause when I'd fight, you used to tell me I was brave - FEARLESS (Fearless) And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake? - REPUTATION (Look what you made me do/oh cause she's dead) Cursing my name - 1989 wishing I stayed - SPEAK NOW Look how my tears ricochet - TAYLOR SWIFT (teardrops on my guitar)
I realized in the song when she says "when you can't sleep at night you hear my stolen lullabies" is referring to Scott basically stealing/selling her albums. That's how interpreted that lyric.
Seven hit me so deeply, I instantly felt like the song could be from Taylor’s inner child to my inner child. I’ve cried many times listening to Seven, wishing that someone could’ve saved me.
@@ford7372 You probably know by now if you've been watching more of them, but if you don't they got messaged by the official TaylorNation account and got given VIP tickets for night 3 of Melborne, Taylor's father personally handed them bags of merch and personalised, handwritten letters from Taylor as well as confirming that he's watched their videos for a while and always sends them to Taylor. So it's pretty much a given that Taylor has watched at least some of them if her dad is linking them to her.
"Folklore" is an example of the power one has when one owns their own Master Recordings and or re-record their own Masters (Screw You Scooter Braun) the fact that Ms. Swift was able to do this type of album, shows the benefits of owning one's Masters, there are no Pop Dance Tunes on this album or songs made just to become Hit Singles. Also, which is why if one goes to Ms. Swift's website, this is how if one chooses to, they can get "Folklore" on Audio Cassette, reason being, when one owns the Master Recordings, one can release it on any format you want and no one can give you grief about it. I think if there was an upbeat song on here, it wouldn't have fit the album. I believe my favourite track on "Folklore" is "Mirrorball" the whole time, I am envisioning my First Love and the end of the year Dance we never got.
All I can say is not even 3 minutes in and your reactions are too relatable, I squealed about 30+ different times throughout the day while soaking up this lyrical masterpiece of an album 😭♥️🙌🏼
