They were still teenagers when this album was released. This was what got them a Guinness world record for being the youngest band to have their debut album go into the charts in the top spot (they took it from The Beatles). James Bourne from Busted helped write some of the songs on the album (Tom was helping write Busted songs too at the time).
about things you asked/commented on the video: - they have that strong california vibe because they were, in fact, in LA for a while, when Tom was working with busted before mcfly was fully formed (it's even mentioned in Obviously, a song he wrote for his now wife Giovanna, "off to LA and that's where I stayed for two years") - by the time the album was released, Tom and Harry were 19, Danny was 18 and Dougie was 16. Dougie lied about his age to get to audition for the band, but when they found out, their working chemistry was stronger and they allowed him to continue. - Five Colours in Her Hair was the lead single, released in March of 2004. The album was actually released in July, not January like it says on Spotify. That Girl, Obviously and Room on the Third Floor were also singles and all of them were top 5 on England. - they hadn't released anything prior to that. Tom had worked with Busted for a while because he had been considered to join the band, but the record label decided Busted should stay as a trio. still, they offered Tom to keep writing with them and, eventually, form his own band. they opened auditions and Danny thought it was a orchestra when he went to the audition. Tom and Danny worked together ever since and, when a second round of auditions was opened, Harry and Dougie joined. they had met while waiting and bonded on liking the same bands. - there was a secret track in the original release of RotTF called Get Over You. you had to rewind the CD from the first track to get to listen it. they released it in a more conventional way in 2012 in their compilation album Memory Lane. there's probably more things that you mentioned that reminded me of their history, but that's what I remember at the moment. and it's been a long time since I read Unsaid Things, so there might be one or two things that need fact check 😅😅
Adding context to how Danny met Tom: The label asked Tom to go to an audition they were holding for the boyband “V” to film the audition and they’d pay him for that. Danny’s sister saw the audition on the paper but I think the paper was ripped or something and he didn’t have the full info so he didn’t know it was for a hoy band. So he showed up with his guitar and everyone was in dance wear ready to dance. He was definitely not right for V but there he was introduced to Tom and they paired them up two write songs together. They sent music back and forth in the mail on cassettes and then also stayed at a hotel in London (room on the third floor) where they wrote and wrote and wrote ❤
Ah, where it all began! Growing up, my favourite band was Busted, then they broke up and Mcfly came along. They perfectly filled that massive pop punk void in my life and I've been hooked ever since 🤘🎸
such a bitter sweet moment..... and to think there was a time when it looked like both where done forever ......But now their both back and killing it is mental!
Thank you soooo much for reacting to McFly's albums!!! They are my favorite band of all time. They're soooo underrated it's insane! I love their first album, especially Not Alone, She Left Me, Obviously, and Room on the 3rd Floor. Such a great debut album!
I love Mcfly so much and this album Tom and Danny were they were 17/18, they wrote majority of the songs. They Wrote most of the songs from this album on a room on third floor of a hotel.
20 years of this album and almost 15 years since I started to listen to them, they were my absolute favorite band growing up, still love this album, so glad you posted a reaction 🙌
This is my absolute favourite video!!! This era reminds me of my childhood and i can confirm Mcfly and all the guys are the nicest people. During the "Wonderland" album and the tour, my make a wish, wish was to see and meet Mcfly and its my favourite memory. This band and the guys are such a big comfort and have a special place in my heart! Also The Masked Singer UK is currently on and i am 99% sure, Pirana is Danny from Mcfly!!! Id love to see you react and see what you think, if it is him or not! Have a great day ❤
Oh yes!!! I have been waiting for you to dive into this. I do love this album and it doesn’t seem like 20 years ago. It’s one of my favourites so far. Thank you Steve 🫶🏻
I love so much to see vids of people reacting to their music because the reactions and rants always reflect the way I've felt about their music for the 12 years I've been a fan and I love to see them get the recognition they deserve ❤️ can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of their discography!
So glad to finally hear you react to the discography!! There’s a great little documentary that Tom and Danny did called ‘on the third floor’, where the went back to the hotel where they wrote lots of the album, and do some amazing acoustic performances.
very few people are able to put themselves in the moment the album was released like you do! it really is fundamental to listening something older and you're the person I've seen reacting on RU-vid who really does it and can really enjoy it, and that's one of the many reasons it's amazing watching you react!
They wrote this song (tom and Danny) while staying at the InterContinental hotel in London. the label put them up in the hotel so they could write. I think this song is their experience while living at the hotel. I think they were there for 3 months and they wrote this album
I love this album, my favorite mcfly one, and such nostalgia for me listening to this when i was 12/13 in the summer. I can really tell James Bourne helped write some of these, the song writing style from back then. I wish you would do this with busted albums, and also their early music videos.
20 years of McFly = 20 years of friendship with one of my best friends ❤ Went to see Busted with a mutual friend & then we both fell in love with McFly(who were supporting them) & spent that entire summer obsessed. I remember sitting in her basement listening to this album for the first time. I’ll never not love McFly.
& if I remember correctly, Danny, Tom & Harry were 17 & Dougie was only 16 when they wrote that album? I think Tom turned 18 right around when Obviously was released(but this is relying on 20 year old memories ha)
I’m a massive Mcfly fan and have been ever since I saw them support busted before this album came out and then this album dropped when I was 13 and it changed my life forever I always loved music but Mcfly are a band who have always been and always will be my favourite but not only the music this guys as well, none of my friends like Mcfly so I’ve always followed them alone and been to every gig on my own so I love seeing other peoples opinions on them thank you so much for giving this album the coverage it deserves and I look forward to seeing you react to the rest of the albums
You should react to the documentary of this album and how it got made. Probably as a patreon exclusive. Room on the 3rd floor was almost entirely written at this one Hotel as the record label put Tom and Danny up whilst they were still looking for band members. Tom was writing for Busted at the time when this was album was written.
Also one thing that's cool to knows that Tom and James (from Busted) both wrote songs together and loads feature on both bands albums over the years... Looking on Genius its cool to Deep dive into who both bands have collaborated with
Several months ago, singers from Indonesia entered America's Got Talent 2023. They are Putri Ariani and Cakra Khan. Many reacted to their video and continued to other performances in Indonesia. Please react to them or watch the video "Cakra Khan - Iris Goo goo dolls (cover)" first.
Indonesia has a diva who has now become an international diva singer, one of whom is Agnez Mo. Please watch the video Agnez Mo - Coke Bottle and Get Loose (Live at FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Opening Jakarta) And his performance at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Festival (fancamera but that was already amazing)
So Dougie and Harry didn’t actually play on this album. They wanted to but the record label chose to bring in session musicians for the bass and drums.
React to videos from Cakra Khan "Iris-goo goo dolls", Alffy Rev "Wonderland Indonesia", Putri Ariani in America Got Talent, and Agnez Mo. Look at your followers and your viewers will be very large
Also, seeing how you liked Not Alone. I think you already reacted to Danny and Tom singing it but you should react or at least watch on your own Danny's live versions!
Omg Steveeennnnn finally T_T I've been waiting for these since literally 2021 T_T I will properly listen to this tomorrow cause it's 3am right now but sjklajsdlkajldk
