Daniil is already the best tennis commentator around & he hasn't even hit the halfway point of his career as a player. He brings so much curiosity, awareness & self-reflection to his responses.
He called him peak Rafa. Many players could beat this Rafa. What is wrong with Zverev? If he loses to Rafa he should take a long break or better yet end his career. Who is he fooling when he knows 90% he has won the match. To me Zverev is boasting when really I don’t count this match at all.
@@fang.clarkec7584 buddy, that is not what he is saying. He's saying that that's the mindset he has to go into the match with so that he'll be prepared for whatever happens. Obviously no one expects Rafa to be at his best but when people start thinking that theyre above other players and will win easily, thats when they get upsetted Also, nadal is not that bad in anyway, idk where u got 90% from. He just beat de minaur, and even if u say that de minaur was having an off day, nadal is still playing like top 30 on clay. Anyone could be upset by someone who is top 30 so ur response is an overreaction fr
and why are the rules that way? why do unseeded have to play with seeded and why seeded do not play between them in the first round? if we think more about it, these rules may be unfair for unseeded players, which usually do not manage to advance, which would more possible if they played to other unseeded players in this round.
@@elpero83 the idea is for top seeded players to reach further rounds as per their rankins....32 seeds are expected to reach the round of 32 by playing unseeded players who are ranked below them
I’m a big Rafa fan but i don’t understand the outrage about this draw for Rafa at all. Its a RANDOM DRAW guys, get tf over it. If Rafa wins thats amazing if not then he lost to a great player
I don't think the outrage is that how dare they give him a hard player in the first round but just the shock because it's going to be such a tough first round match. So many people want to see Rafa go far, so getting Zverev in the first round is really tough.
All draws are random so that's not the issue. The argument is since he has won 14 titles there and is the greatest clay court player ever, he should have placed-not necessarily seeded-in the draw to avoid this scenario.
I am glad Medvedev spoke about Rafa's talent, which gets eclipsed in all the talk about his fighting ability. The range of shots he has displayed is impossible without the highest level of skill
Ok I read a lot of comments like “I don’t understand the outrage about the draw“ or "that’s the rules deal with it“ and I totally get that. But let me explain MY outrage with the draw, as ofc I can’t speak for everyone; They completely went by the book and according to the rules as I understand that the seeding is supposed to be based on your current ATP ranking, sure. BUT for hell of a long time tournaments made EXCEPTIONS. The most prominent example surely is Wimbledon, who regularly seeded ”grass specialists“ WAY higher than their ATP rank would have allowed. Why? To make sure they stay in the tournament longer because that’s what people wanted to see and to respect the former accomplishments in this particular tournament. So I guess we all agree there has never been ANYONE who has been more dominant on clay and especially at Roland Garros than Rafa right? I‘m German and a Zverev fan and I was 95% sure that under normal circumstances Zverev would this match, and he did. But the reason I‘m still mad about the draw (and many former greats like McEnroe or Becker are) that the French open missed an opportunity to pay the 14 time champion and most dominant player in their tournament ever the respect he deserved on his probably last visit. And I‘m 100% sure no other player would have been mad or even disagreed if they placed him at like 15-20. That’s probably the best way I can explain my confusion with the decision.
@@VladRadu-tq1pg I agree if Rafa wins it will be SOLELY because Zverev would have choked! I see a simple 3 set win for Alexander in the running. EVERY indicator there is shows that Rafa doesn't stand a shred of a chance against even a top 100 player due to the fact that his body simply isn't there. There are still fanboys believing Rafa can win, and even here the players are just uttering kind words out of respect for the achievement. I think Novak remains the favorite regardless of sloppy run this year.
@@ABC-ABC1234 it is fixed by ATP. 2022 the 🐂 needed 💉💉💉💉💉💉 to win. It could happen again if the ATP allowed💉💉💉💉💉💉for the 🐂. It is a lie , Hips injured most likely end people career. The 🐂 is 38 ranks 250, hasn't played seriously for two years. Alexander is the Italian open Champ. If the racket talks then the 🐂 will be slaughtered. Otherwise the 🐂will hold the trophy.💯👍🙏🚫🐂🚴🎾☮️
Who said it was his fault? Zverev only said he wanted to play him again since he didn’t like how his last match ended. He didn’t blame him directly or indirectly
You have to be able to beat any and all players to win a championship . Do what you always do play tennis. Let the best player of the day win. Hope it is a good match
Either Rafa or Sasha losing in the first round would be all wrong. Mauresmo should be ashamed of herself. And also the way she didn’t give Thiem a wild card. So rude and disrespectful.
Bro Rafa is so low in the rankings, obviously he’s going to have a good chance to play a top player. And unfortunately the French open sticks to only giving French players wildcards. Stop crying
It‘s not Mauresmo‘s fault that Rafa is unseeded. She cannot change the rules ad hoc. Regarding Thiem‘s (not) wild card, you are right. It‘s simply a silly custom to give nearly all wild cards (qualifiers wc, too!) to some french talents/juniors/og‘s/whoever. This a world event, held in France. It‘s not a French national championship.
Sympathetic, respectful testimonies towards Nadal, while knowing that Nadal arrived very disadvantaged at this RG after too long an injury stoppage and Zverev clearly had the advantage
This is where Rafa's journey ends. It's a pity though. If he beats Sasha in this match Sasha's chances of getting his first RGTitle will be over. But I don't think Rafa can beat Sasha now.
@@dorothysmith3205 IF Rafa wins, it will be solely because Zverev would have chocked! Every shot from Rafael is inferior to any shot Zverev has in his arsenal.
Right, that’s my thought too. She could have just at least said I was focused on women’s tennis. She won Rome on the women’s side so she should have known better about the men’s champion
This become an issue because it is the king of c lay. Rafans quite disappointed because it's unfair to draw him 1st round VS a seeded player. But as they say rules are rules. Just praying rafa plays his match well with no injury after. We want to see him play longer but it remain to be how he can cope this. Good luck champ. Vamos You can do it. Do your best God will do the rest. God bless you
Well said, Zverev. He has to treat this match as if Nadal is playing his best, and we know Rafa is a fighter and will play his best! It's too bad that this match had to be the 1st round , when both could have gotten qualifiers or other lower rank players, heck even Nishikori got a qualifier ;) but yes , it is what it is . May the better player win
Iga saying she’s not an expert made me laugh .I think in all fairness she is as much of an expert as anyone on 🌍.What a humble lady and what a player .
It is better to lose against a top player als some unterdog,by all respect It is said One sees one two times in life .😮😢😢😢😢 All my respect for all what Rafa has offered us 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊❤
The seeding needs to be like March Madness with little tweeks for past champions. Both of those guys should have played qualifiers. It makes the tournament less for the players and for the audience for one of the best players or past champions to have to be eliminated in the first round because they play each other in the first round.
Guys nadal didn’t win any tournament in 2022 before winning RG. Stop underestimating him. He has a habit of making comebacks. If anyone saw Rome, they should have understood the positive signs in his tennis. He has got enough tennis before rg. Even djokovic is not in any rythm, but everyone is still considering him as the favourite. Then why are you guys considering a 1 year elder player as such an underdog. Not many people understand tennis I can say. You guys can come back to me after tomorrow. It will be a super close match.
First of all, no one sounded like they were criticizing anything! I'm sure no one wanted to play Nadal in the first round, but like Sasha said, it is what it is, nothing I can do! He handled it great!
I didn’t hear ANY criticism at all. The title is misleading… every player said it is what it is and questioned how would they go about seeding a past champion in a standard way.
Title of this Video is Misleading… NONE of the players “Criticized the Draw”. Both Zverev and Swiatek, who were explicitly asked about it, outright refuted criticism of the draw…
That's a very misleading heading because noone actually criticised the draw. They simply acknowledged it as a tough luck to play Rafa in the first round and a tough draw for Rafa
Very disrespectful Roland Garros organization.. the guy doesn’t deserve that tough treatment.. that’s why the US Open is the most important Tennis event in the Planet .
US Open is not at all the most important tennis event. Melbourne is also a great tournament. So is Wimbledon. The 4 majors are equally great. And all the players fight to win at least one of them.
Not sure why people are makign it up to be a huge thing to criticise. It is what it is. The man was 600 at the start of the year, this was always on the cards.
I'm a Nadal fan, but they shouldn't give him an easier draw. It's like Zverev says: How are you gonna do that? It wouldn't be fair. Where do you draw the line then?
How the hell is it criticism? All of them are literally saying that they would not want to play him, because he is just so good and has so much experience on this surface. Please don't spread wrong information!
I dont see Rafa having any chance against Zverev . In 2024 hes level is nowhere near top players . My prediction is Zverev and its going to be almost sadly easy because Nadal just isnt anymore what he was and likely never will . I hope he can bounce back with much higher level !
They're just giving Rafa the courtesy. All these young players can easily give Rafa a bagel score. But they will let him score some games. Rafa's role now in the French Open is merely a decoration for the event - just like Federer on Wimbledon.
NObody protested when during 12 or 14 years the rivals for Nadal in first 3 rounds were players in 140 or 160 in ranking. and Nadel beat them in one hour. NOw he has a low ranking, so it is logic he must face one of the important players.
I can see your point as a huge Novak advocate from his abhorrent demise my city , 2022 , I was a die hard Rafa fan .... i respect the great 3 however I love the 3 in this interview ..... Novak made majestic magic in Melbourne on his gracious but quiet conviction to get that 10th AO I was ready to sue my own government . There is no disputing Rafa's innate gift to hit the 'wow' shots , his gutsy determination ..... He sadly has injured his body so much ...,.., I wish you all a great tournament .... may the best man win !
Wooow ur logic is as intelligent as ur IQ. If the players u mentioned never won 14 grandslams then it is understandable but Nadal Has 22 GS titles and u equating them shows ur hatred for Rafa. Plus when Rafa entered tennis also he would have played the top seeds in the first round. Ur illogical and blatant hatred for Rafa is understandable
JG you hit it pretty much on the head. This was no where near the rout I feared. Lots of ‘Vamos Moments’ but also errors and nets. Nadal did not ‘work into’ the tournament as he likes. Skip the grass, play whatever clay he can find before the Olympics and we might have a pleasant surprise .
“No player is bigger than the tournament “ - Rafa’s supportive words towards Nole’s vaccine saga in AO. Why should it be different now and there’s so much fuss about it? Oh, because it’s Rafa 😅
supportive words? what? nadal openly chided novx for not getting it, then nadal got it, and NOW look at him, its the lone spearhead between them thats caused nadals dmg, now novx (pun) is ahead of everyone for not doing it, eh. notice nadal cannot compete properly past the first set, his endurance is shot, bc his hrt n lngs are shot due to desharpie. and dont state the vee word on yt or they punish you.
his words were 'he knew the rules ' I could cite word for word as he had a look of hatred for Djokovic . I live 20 minute drive from Tennis Centre Melbourne . Still bewlldered why in Hell would Tennis 🇦🇺give media access to players to ask their opinion ??? That was when I thought ' my country is so in mature , and govt abusive ! Kyrgios showed real character . Integrity as he let media know it was not acceptable treatment The vax ? I would hope many players got saline . They push their bodies , heart ....,
@@merrilynstanger7241 i doubt they wd b allowed to get saline, and yes, they DO push themselves, etc....with other athletes ie soccer players, footballers, etc dropping dedd on the playing field, airline staff found dedd in their hotel rooms, ya its definitely scary; my neighbor and my bil both got it, and a year later they are now both fatally ill with ccr.
This is the rule. Tournaments seed players based on their ranking and that’s the fairest rule ever. Just play with it. Thiem, Schwartzman, Murray and Wawrinka weren’t considered as top seeds either.
@@zafferung4440 I don't put my finger on other people's private life outside of tennis. That is none of my business. I will leave it at that...!!! I am a big Rafa fan. You can go back to your rat hole.
Rafa will always be the king of clay and what he has achieved there will never be equalled or surpassed. A legend. But I can't seen him beating Zverev. Time catches up with all men eventually and Rafa's halcyon days have passed sadly.
yes, he is the king of clay, like Lance Amstrong is the king on bicycle... and they both have something else in common, that is, what all Nadal-Fanboys always forget...🙂
Swiatek doesn't make any sense, she is "no expert"?!?! And who cares about draws being adjusted in case of Nadal, it isn't that a 14 time RG champion will come back from injury every year at every GS. Jesus.
Hard to get the answer you are looking for from the players.. They have to comfoem with the system and they can't be "feeling sorry" for Nadal. But yes even if you take Rafa as seeded there are many seeded players, to have him with number 4 seems a bit like a face off, a provocation .. Weird he didn't got seeded 12 or 19 or 24... I dint know how it works, but of its a draw if also feels not celan to change it, or draw again when you see it's nr4.
All players try hard year-round to get enough points to be seeded. There are thirty-two seeds, and which ones would be taken away to give to Nadal? One belongs to Alcaraz, Medvedev, or Zverev? Think before YOU criticize Mauresmo.
What idiotic question whether Rafa should be seeded as a player outside of the top 200. Seriously, he should be glad he doesnt play qualifiers and exhaust himself more at his age and I bet even Rafa would be surprised by that question.
Pathetic. The guy was a beast early to mid stage of his career. He's old and he knows his career is now dead but just to stubborn. I wont be surprised if his rival Novak would lose 2nd or 3rd set as well.
Personally I think Rafa will beat Zverev. Its RG! Lets go Rafa. Its based on seedings so there was no choice. With regards to Thiem, yes RG should have given him a wild card as its his last year before he retires. That was unfair.
Rafa is only interested in winning, if he gets knocked out in r1 or finals does not matter, he is not chacing points. He actually has good draw, dodging a lot of hurdes. Sereverely declined Nadal already beat peak Zverev in under 2 sets last time, and now Zverev has that court case clouding him. The 1st quarter could also have a lot of upsets, because of the clay specialists there, and winner of that could come to sf in bad shape, lots of 5 setters played. And Nadal does not have to worry about Alcaraz till the final, who there's also question marks on.
esta perfecto, si hubiera tenido un cuadro mas accesible hubieran criticado a la organizacion. se respeta a la gente que viiene de abajo, el camino asii es jaja
He is probably ok with one match, but it will be the accumulative affect of a two week event, that his body can no longer recover from in fast enough time, to make it to a final
Why do we have women commenting on mens tennis again now? Leave something to the mens club women. Just a little peace and quiet from time to time is all we ask for
Zverev is coming to the French Open with a very good chance to win the tournament. I just wish Nadal would not play him in the first round. For me Alcaraz , Zverev, Ruud, Tsitsipas have the best chance. I do not see Novak, Sinner or Nadal to reach the final. I do not think Sinner and Nadal body would be able to endure all the way to the final. I would pick Sinner as my favorite if he did not have some hip issues .
