Novak Djokovic, Medvedev & Swiatek on Crowd Disrespecting Players during Match at Roland Garros 2024 #rolandgarros #djokovic #novakdjokovic #djokernole #medvedev
It never occurred to me that tennis could be compared to team sports such football or hockey in terms of audience reactions, cheers, and noise levels. Times are changing it seems. I think boo’ing a team, especially an individual tennis player is rude and childish. The Players are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship therefore the people who support them should do so as well. Good for you Iga for speaking up.
Nothing it’s changing. They are like that it’s different crowd than Wimbledon. I remember Rafa Nadal first time he played there it was the same very cruel crowd. They didn’t like him at all. Now they call him Our Spanish Player. It’s a taught crowd but you can win their heart.
cuz they are french, they are bunch of lazy people, they don't understand the hard work these players put in to be where they are, they treat the players like circuit performers
Because the French, in particular, are determined to ‘show off’. It’s pure petty pathetic ego from this very arrogant, opinionated and self centred nation. Especially when they’re youngsters.
@@jeffreyadams648 It's not that they're French or Parisians. It's that they're young males & feel entitled to act like they're in their living rooms watching soccer. You'll find the same crowd profle (young males) with the same entitled behaviour at many other tournaments, particularly AO. The RG crowds are literally having to shush these idiots, that's how bad it's getting. The majority of the crowd is there for tennis, but the problem profile is there to insert themselves into the match.
1. It's not the whole crowd - - just a relative few are spoiling it for others. 2. They are spoiling it for themselves too since the quality of tennis suffers.
Novak eloquently outlined what the issue but that issue cant be resolved unless tournament organizes take appropriate action to keep a lid on BS that crowd sometimes display.
7:32 "Somebody shouted during when the ball flying to me ..." HERE IS THE PROBLEM, no if the crowd is louder or not!. Journalists should ask questions in accordance with what IGA asked, and not invent their own theories🤬
We’ve reached the limits of “acceptable” when people start spitting at players. That’s disgraceful and disgusting behaviour. The organization must nip it in the bud otherwise tennis tournaments will turn into a constant carnival of boorishness. We’ve already had to endure exaggerated spectacles of chanting choruses and honking horns. It’s too much. If it completely interferes with the players’ ability to focus and perform, it needs to be tamed.
Why do golf crowds conduct respect the players and the game but tennis fans can't keep it together? During points, intervention by the crowd is not appropriate.
its a totally different person that plays tennis, usually. anyone can play golf well. it takes a feisty persona to play tennis well and win matches, events etc. wilting violets need not take tennis lessons bc they will never be successful at it anyways. ive played tennis with wilting violets as partners, i HATE THAT bc they have NO will to win!
This has been an issue everywhere. In RG it’s just worse. If it’s annoying for those watching the matches on TV, I wonder how bad it feels to be there.
Daniil has it spot on imho. Inbetween points and changeovers, go nuts but when the player is ready to serve or during the point itself, all you should here is your opponent, the umpire or the linesperson.... and I'm not even sure about the opponent...
My 5c on this whole thing: No matter when or where or what your profession may be, RESPECT is EARNED. HOW that happens, may vary in each situation. If you let a heckler get under your skin, that means you have to toughen up mentally. However, that doesn't excuse an attempt to interfere with or disrupt someone's preparation/focusing. Certain 'rules' must be respected, not a certain player, but the rules as a whole. That being said, I would happily accept the banning of 'fans' from the venue/event. Buying a ticket goes with accepting the terms of service, which should include, if it doesn't already, getting banned from the event, for breaking rules. The chair umpires should under all circumstances replay points, if interference/hindrance happens AND enforce the removal of people, who clearly can't follow the rules. In all sports there are fan favourites, underdog stories and all that. That is just, what you have to deal with, as a professional. I understand, that in team sports, you have team members, who can help you overcome thus kind of pressure moments, whereas in singles tennis, one is literally all by oneself. That makes it immeasurably tougher. But still, that is part of the profession the players have chosen.
THE FIX: Heres how the event organizers shd handle this issue: Have crowd watchers (dudes/gals) event employees, that stand floor level on the court level surface (away from the crowd protected by a barrier) to LOOK UP surveil the crowd while the match is played to identify the hecklers and OUST them, at the end of a point they can stick up their hand (with a small stiff flag) and a whistle and point to the offender, which the security staff will take hold of and drag them out, register them on an offenders list at the event security office, after a second offense they are kicked off the grounds for the rest of the day, after a 3rd event offense they are banned from the event totally. that way everyone can CHEER for their chosen players or be neutral. in other words, BEHAVE themselves or get thrown out, just like the players have to obey the rules or get thrown out. ie rublev screaming at a linesperson got defaulted, and rightly so. and next time they buy tickets they have to pay MORE for their tickets to help pay for the crowd watchers/security staff.
it exists allready. Goffin should have call the judge about. then supervisor comes ... allready people would have undestand they are under pressure ^^^^^ il they continue Supervisor ( even the judge i think) can eject them from the stadium. like in any tournament, even in your club ;)
@@marksquires1112 pas sous cette forme, mais ça existe déjà . Goffin aurait dû en faire la requête. sur cette édition, l'arbitre a remis un hataer à sa place en une simple phrase: 10 secondes. ;)
@@marksquires1112 i thought so. The williams sisters when they were young teens at an event coming out onto the court pple in the crowd yelled horrible names at them! little kids at a sporting event! those adults shd have been charged with something, in addition to being ousted!! they can either cheer or shut up.
I also agree with John McEnroe that tennis organizers threw Novak under the bus. Earlier the previous years champion played only the new champion. They gave him too many matches which end at 3 am. Any Grand Slam winner over the age of 35 should not have to play up to 3 am. In early Grand Slams before ww2, the previous champions were highly respected. In some Grand Slams before ww2, previous champion (say 2023 winner) played supposedly only the new champion (say 2024 winner) , and were supposedly allowed to play the new champion in a final after the final. Suppose Sinner wins the finals of the 2024 Wimbledon championship. He next has to play the previous year's Grand Slam 2023 Wimbledon Champion to determine the next true champion of Wimbledon 2024. Reason: that time before ww2, people travelled by ships. It took too long.
If not for the fact that hearing how the ball comes off the opponent's racket is a crucial element of tennis, I would say let them make as much noise as in any other sport.
Tennis is a gentleman sport and the spectators need to act like gentlemen and gentle women and respect the players when their preparing to play a point and during the point ! Back when Jimmy Connors and John Mcenroe were playing they would go right after the fans and getting in their face. And the players wouldn't be hugging each other after every single match like they do now we need some good rivalries and some intense competition between the player, too.... not all this lovey dovey Goody Two-Shoes between all the players !
David Goffin is a very humble, respectful, calm player/person and so if it's towards him or someone else who doesn't provoke the crowd ... Long story short: the crowd can and may be loud but starting to spit at players?! No 👎🏻 just no!! Btw: too French people = this DG is from Wallonië (the French side of Belgium) that many many MANY years ago belonged to France & the Dutch side too the Netherlands So in a way they spitted too a player who could have been one of them.🤷🏻♀️💁🏻♀️ If the splitting didn't happened then 💁🏻♀️ ✌🏻🌻
The French are the most disrespectful tennis spectators for years. Not the players are important, they're important. The tournament, the courts, beautiful, but please, can we put British, Scandinavian or German people in the stands? Or any people but the French?
It is tennis, folks.😮 Not football or another laud sport. The spectator should RESPECT ALL THE PLAYERS .YES,WE ALL HAVE OUR FAVOURITES BUT ,AT FIRST ON COURT WE SHOULD RESPECT THE PLAYERS .😊
Badosa said that Iga is complaining and she is lucky to play on main court as in other courts is louder, imagine saying that about current no.1 with 4 GS ans 105 weeks at top, Badosa is just clown who will never achive this kind of level
She is not lucky to play on main, IGA DESERVES THIS AND IGA EARNED ITBY HARD WORK TO PLAY ON MIAN COURT which badosa can dream about at the moment. Go IGA GO, SHOW THEM ENEMIES the middle finger and play and win more
To Badosa, you need to work harder and be more consistent! I am sure the tournament organisers will schedule your match in centre court if you are top 2 players.
If someone is disturbing you on purpose:- saying goodbye to the tournament and, of course, a ban for some time. But seriously, people who are under the influence are screaming ALCOHOL.NO or someone is just an inherently bad person And making someone feel bad problems We go to the match to watch the competition .Tennis is a sport that requires concentration and precision, and even small deviations cause mistakes.
People have very poor memory. Please see the first videos when Nadal started to play there. They were cruel with him because he was Spaniard. It’s the French people. This is not Wimbledon. Take it as it is, not personal.
I think the French crowd is rude and should be held accountable by organizers. What if all the top players refuse to play ! I get stressed even watching !
It's funny...tennis fans are typically very elite and care about their social status but their behavior can be anything but classy. In those small moments you can call attention to yourself in a giant sea of people. You also see an opportunity to potentially unnerve the opposing player with your outburst. What is it about tennis matches that brings this out in people? It's not just French people ...the crowd at Wimbledon can be worse. How Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer three times with that crowd screaming and jeering at the top of their lungs...is amazing.
No Late nights so drunkards hurling abuse . Funny how they mostly put Novak on late late. The scheduling director & puppet masters at ATP are unethical manipulative & corrupt you really see this what time a player is on & such an easy draw for Sinner & alcaraz making sure they win. So disgusting. Well said Novak he is so articulate.
I refer to the roy kent monologue in season 3 during the press conference. Unkind fans are always the worst, lack of empathy and entitlement, always the worst.
It reminds me of unruly drunk parents of little league players. No class. If you have to distract the players you probably don't have much confidence in the players deciding for themselves.
the only answer to this is "they paid for the ticket, they can say whatever they want, and boo whenever they want, as long as it is not during the point." it's simple: Freedom. (just not during the point. if you do that, you get a warning, then you get asked to leave)
I don't think the argument that tennis is more technical than other sports justifies the demand for silence. There are equally - if not even more - technical sports in track and field that require great concentration, and they are traditionally performed under high crowd noise.
I agree, however high crowd noise is like a white noise - its masking disrupting sounds, whereas in tennis just a single person shouts are very distracting.
@@Malgosia44 No, I'm certainly not. But the athletes from other more demanding sports that are not complaining like tennis players about noise, movements, shiny surfaces etc are definitely pro.
Tennis court is quite small compared to other sports, e.g. soccer or football fields. Therefore, fans are sitting very close to the players and their shouting is very disruptive. Fan screams at soccer/football are like background white noise.
He's not charming at all when you see him on his court antics, and post game stupid ass gesture he makes to a god that a majority of the people have other beliefs. That's extremely disrespectful. Religion is stupid in any part of a sporting event!
