Finally someone who recognizes that the song has an intro. I don’t get why most people just ignore it.

I think it's because the Music video skips it, which of course it does because $

La ou naissent les couleurs nouvelles would be awesome, also if you can teach us how this type of chord works, this kind of music use a lot of "weird" chords i'm very interested to know about.

I did do a translation of the lyrics for that song if you're interested in checking that out. I also recorded a vocal cover but it got copyrighted unfortunately. I have a video that kind of break down the topic, it's about chord substitutions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uXqUqfHDIoA.html The basic premise that triad chords always share two notes with two other chords so you have families like F-Am-C, when you extend it to 7 chords or more complex harmonies, you can keep the idea flowing and stretch your harmonies out

I love this song, the style of the chords remind me of some Opeth tunes, as Mikael Åkerfeldt is also a fan of changing the chords with just messing around with inversions (unintentionally), but keeping that pedal point underneath so that it's basically just kind of a prolongation of the tonic function. I've also come to notice that I absolutely love that VI - VII - i -progression in natural minor, I hear it all the time in music but it's just so good.

You might like another band from Italy that has simular sound to Alcest, called Novembre. I recommend checking out Novembre - Nostalgiaplatz, Novembre - Jules,Novembre - Nostalgiaplatz (Acoustic), Novembre - Aquamarine,

Great video man, this will definitely help those who are learning guitar, I found out this song not long ago, I was looking for band logo phone cover and stumbled upon Alcest album cover Les Voyages de l'Âme, their music surprised me, keep up the good work.

Manish kay Definitely, I'll probably start listening to more of the later stuff. I do have an idea that's similar, it's kind of a cover.

Would that actually be a G flat chord though since it's in E flat, along with a lot of the rest of the chords you were talking about
@ApathyBM
@ApathyBM 8 лет назад
+sgtzero1337 Absolutely, the song is tuned down a half step. I'm describing in standard because I'm not tuned down (floyd rose) so if people want to follow with the video, they can. But yes that is true, good point.

so can you explain to me how you found out the key of the song? and you say g major dorian, I thought that was a minor mode? xD ughhh music theory man.
@ApathyBM
@ApathyBM 7 лет назад
Dorian is minor mode so you are correct, reviewing my notes, the way I phrase it was bad since I was confused myself until I heard myself playing the part in the video. The song is in Dm and the 4th chord in the scale is normally supposed to be Gm - that is to say the third note is normally B flat. However, on the ending of the intro section and at the end of each verse, he plays a G Major with a B natural instead of the normal Gm. Which temporarily transforms the key of the song into D Dorian instead of D minor, and giving it an extra spacier feel. So when I say the phrase "Dorian G Major", I meant the G Major chord in D dorian mode, as opposed to an expected G minor chord in D Minor mode. I know the actual key of the song is supposed to be D minor because the main riff, is a i-VI-VII-i, and that VI chord is Bflat Major. Complicated, but that's what makes it so cool to think about.

hey thanks for responding! I know what you mean now haha. it's crazy to think how a mode change can make a song sound better!
