I don't want to die from this stuff. I really saw myself heading that way, fat, not old enough, and falling apart from alcohol abuse. I'll never go back, it feels too fantastic to be free! All the best on your journey...

Thanks for sharing your experience with drinking. Lisstening to you gives me hope that I can also stay off the alcohol. Both of my grandparents on both sides of my family had drinking issues as well as my mom and dad. No wonder I do as well you think. I am 48 and have been drinking for 30 years and in the last 5 years my binge drinking has gotten out of control. I am 3 weeks sober and the craving is getting less and less because I know how much I have to lose if I dont stop . Thanks again. Peace and encouragement to all who are struggling

Your story is very similar from mine. I became a single dad when my son was 4 y old. He is now 11y old. I tried to survive the days and when I put him to bed I went downstairs drinking alone.

For me it was always there since i was a kid and it was like a normal thing that everyone did. Same thing here. It's what men did and did after work. And yes that is how it escelated.. 100% true everything.

My dad recently died from this disease, he had just turned 60. He had been struggling with alcohol addiction throughout his life but I knew little about it since I always lived with my mother, the subject was always too taboo to be discussed. He was a very smart professional man with several degrees and a good job, you would not tell looking at him that he had a drinking problem but these recent years he really started looking unwell, he looked yellow, very thin and had started calling me late in the evenings drunk rambling on about my mother or other trivial matters. When I questioned him about his health he always changed the subject. He was recently found dead in his bed by my grandparents. I have spent the past few days trying to understand more about the disease and what my dad was going through these past 40 years, my mother always said it was his choice to drink the way he did but for a man so intelligent and that lost so much in his life I feel that it might not have been so easy. I just wish these last few years I had taken the chance to know him better as an adult and question him about his issues, I guess I just felt that it would have hurt what little pride he had left.

I think sometimes people dont know what to say to someone who has drinking problem. It may be too frightening especially if it is a parent

This is a similar story to my mum, she started to drink when she was a young teen and then to unwind in the evening. It then got to an uncontrollable point where she would get very angry. She still struggles with it so now I am trying to understand her. What can a child do to her their parent?

Hi Vanessa, You know sometimes its very difficult to give the right answers. As a father, I would have listened straight away to my son if he brought the subject up. I might not have liked what he said, but him saying it to me would have had a greater impact than anyone else. I think being there is a great help. To know that someone very close to you has got your back, no matter what, is very important. You are in a good position to know what to do, you are there with your mother, you understand what is going on, and you care - which is the most important thing, I think. Sorry I can't be more help. I can only be very general. I wish you all the best Kevin

Sorry I just could'nt listen to this till the end; because I was hearing noises in the background of this video; wich was quite annoying, forgive me for saying so.....and I just could'nt concentrate on what Keving was saying..... Theese noises sounded like voices modified to electronics..... Maybe I'll catch another video with your story; without any noises .... That would be nice......

I can hear the noise but it doesn't really spoil the video.
