@@mjames978It's a top fuel engine. They start it on alcohol (it can't be run on alcohol, only started) and then switched to nitro. Top Fuel all does it like this, because the cylinders compressing nitro during cranking would cause the engine to explode. Nitromethane is a liquid explosive; technically not a fuel at all. It's very volatile. In Top Fuel racing, they make sure to spin the motor over a bunch of times without ignition or compression to get any nitro left in the lines out. If any nitro is left, it explodes the engine when first ignition occurs during startup. 😊
🤘I have some VERY fond memories of those absolutely beautiful summer nights, sitting at the end of the track at E-town, watching them rip through... ahhh... yes... Late teens, early 20's, not a care in the world, so much yet to explore and learn about... I'd do nearly anything just to go back for a week!
I was wondering if the cams are different on todays alky cars from the ones in the 70's. Many of the alky cars back then had a loping idle indicating a radical cam.
God I wish I could afford one of those cars and motors and not have to bring 10 guys to rebuild the motors after every run or at least that motor and put it in my 1970s style front engine nhra top fuel dragster I built. And it's exactly 100 percent period correct build I did my self with blue prints I got offline I already build oval track cars asphalt and dirt super latemodels and modifieds so building a top fuel front engine dragster from the 70s was easy for me it has a 900 hp old dirt 410 cubic inch sprint car engine in it with huge bug catcher intake all carb no supercharger or boost and runs 7.000-6.90s all day in the quarter mile and that's with it tuned down on alcohol to keep the motor reliable. It's only making 915 to rear wheels when it's tuned up all the way but turned down I'm making 750 to rear wheels right now. I want a top fuel motor for it or even a top fuel motor in my tube chassis drag car that has a 1970s fiberglass funny car body on it that I got off a old funny car that was sitting in a and the chassis was all bent up but this body was just sitting on top of it for storage and I got the body it's bad to the bone looking car I just need a bad to the bone motor to go in it and run 4-5seconds in it and I wanna get a top fuel motor but tube it down so I don't have to rebuild it after every run😊
You can lower the power and not have to rebuild it. Non turbo 4 cylinder Hondas on nitro are making 600-700 horsepower naturally aspirated and running 8 seconds at 160+ mph and they don’t break. Anything pushed to the limit will break or have to be rebuilt.
There have been some Nitro Pro Mods out there. Scott Palmer is one of those guys who puts a Top Fuel engine in a Pro Mod. He did it with his Studezilla and his Chevelle
@@XB-70Valkyrie-d3k IF you want to think that is the deciding factor, go ahead. BTW At the end of the day it doesn't mean shit so I wonder why the F you are here harassing me. Did someone touch your bottom today?
@@XB-70Valkyrie-d3k that "thing" does NOT have 16 coils. Don't see the 2 GIANT mags that are literally "front and center stage"? You mean spark plugs... yeah, it has 2 per cylinder... and so does every Chrysler hemi engine built since 2003... I guess they're "top fuel" engines too? so... My brother's Durango has a top fuel engine!? I can't wait to tell him! He'll be so excited! ...nevermind. Why am I even wasting my time? lmao
