SU won! SO SU has power, talented young musicians (best of the best), a 70-year lineage (like JSU they have essentially had one band director who trained everyone who came after him directly or indirectly), BUT it is the ARRANGING that no one can ever TOP! I think of the Jukebox as Godzilla. You don't mess with or start a competition w/Godzilla BECAUSE you will ALWAYS lose. Isaac Gregg started at SU when he was a 15-year old student. That's a whole lineage (of band directors & training knowledge) other HBCU schools have to fight. Thanks for the OUTSTANDING CLIPS! Re-listening on 10/2021 and I remember the contest btwn their two songs as a close call but it was not. Alcorn had a really good arranger but the tubas immed take over playing in a very low register & all you hear is a pounding sound. Alcorn's version soars for a bit in its last third.
I like Alcorn Arrangement better, just poorly executed. Alot of overblowing. Why do bands always want to Overblow when playing SU, or JSU? #Stayinyourlane.
catergory3kane I would explain the diff to you in respect to how both bands sound but your comment seems to be biased toward alcorn regardless of their sound smh
+catergory3kane Alcorn arrangement is better, but there's NO BALANCE. It's sounds loud, and rough. If I close my eyes. It sounds like Talladega playing this song. Alcorn needs to work on TONE.
Aint no biased.. SU is very flat in certain part! That sounds nothing like the song! It'sa difference than being a fan and KNOWING music which half of yall wouldn't know or win at a real competition.
