I started making my own vanilla a few years ago. If you buy the vanilla beans online and the cheap bottom shelf vodka it ends up SO much cheaper. I made a Quart last time for about $15. And I still have 3\4 of the bottle of vodka left

Ounce for ounce, homemade vanilla is way cheaper. I've tried it with bourbon, whiskey, and vodka. We like the vodka the best. I like Madagascar, grade B beans. If you keep the bean immersed in the vodka, they last for years. I like to brew mine for 18 months, but you can use it sooner than that if you want to.

With the cost of the vodka and the beans I can make a GALLON of vanilla extract for what 10 of those bottle cost (even now with inflation) and if you think of how much that is in comparison it saves so much. You don't need to have a lot of money up front to do it either, a bottle of vodka (I get the cheap stuff because it doesn't matter) only cost about $25-30 where I am and I order my beans online for also about $25-30 and I only use half those beans per batch and then I reuse them also. So honestly way cheaper and it makes so much at a time that I don't have to buy it often, I highly recommend doing it especially if you do a lot of at home baking to save money like I do for my family.

I can tell your coming off of a long time with a tight budget, tortillas and coffee creamer feel like a splurge! This week it feels like I've gone off the rails but actually I just bought meat and went to Sam's club and won't be back for 3+ months. Also I paid my car insurance, not 1 months, not 6 months, the whole year! I was low spend mid-Nov to mid-Feb and the effects still linger, which is good! 💗

My partner and I put a certain amount away each week for bills, registration & insurance. That way we don’t have to look for the money when it comes up or cut back on anything.

@@bridgwll yeah I've been considering that, but I already have 3 savings accounts (home emergency fund, emergency fund, and summer savings for reduction in pay). I could pull from savings to pay bigger irregular bills but I actually like the challenge of just paying them and being frugal the rest of the month. If I need to pull from savings I do, but it's way less than the big bill was to begin with.

Been getting those multi grain chips from Aldi for years; they’re my favorite. Organic AND gluten-free; win, win!

That's a great haul! Nothing wrong with buying tortillas. And, those snacks make for some very happy babies!

Do the kids like salsa or hummus to dip there chips in ? I make both homemade and I don’t use tahini in my hummus.

I may have told you this before so I’m sorry if this is a repeat. The cheese individually wrapped are cheese food and are not real cheese. The American cheese that are stuck together or from the deli are usually real cheese. I don’t know if Sam knows or cares for that matter as we all like what we like. When my friend told me I was really surprised.

This comment above is really fyi. My children got many treats growing up and they are in their 40s now and they are healthy, happy, and good parents that contribute to society in good ways. I think you’re a great mom who never needs to explain or apologize for any of your choices.
