I remember buying this on vinyl at the, "Record Store" after seeing the video on MTV! Yes, once upon a time they actually played music videos! The 80's ruled!!!
I bought mine at Karma Records. It was a music store and head shop. They sold bongs and every type of pipe and paraphernalia for smoking weed, er...tobacco. Yes, it was a tobacco shop. hehe...
Those guitar solos on the first album have always just blown me away, they are all amazing, but the stand outs are "Heart to Heart", "Under the Gun" and "See the Light".
I was a teen in the 80's but mostly into 70's stuff at the time (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, etc). However, I definitely remember this song for some reason. Good tune. They kind of reminded me of Triumph.
The 80`s for me was the greatest all round music decade of all time. So many genre`s, so many choices and continuous good music..It will never be beaten for me.
You speak true. Watching MTV, at that time,(at whatother time)can you go from Motley Crue to Spandau Ballet to Thompson Twins to Lord's Ot The New Church to Cinderella to Helloween to etc.
Aldo Nova showed some bravery here - as well just being a great song - he writes an anti drug abuse song when cocaine use was rampant and promoted widely in the industry... gotta give him credit for showing some backbone with this one.
Seems like a Reagan just say no ad, i wonder if we promoted drug treatment and normalized getting help in the 80s instead of stereotypical reefer madness behavior
I am going to be really raw. I have been clean for years off opiates. But last night I had a close call. I came so close to sticking a needle in my arm and I didn't. I ran. I love Aldo Nova. I watched this video again. Thank you Aldo Nova, who would think your song came out in high school. Yeah we all got older but you guys sound great. Your music is still good. Your album Subject, was one we used to blast in the truck when we went cruising. Thanks you guys!!
The 80s were the best!! Glad I was born in 1972 and got to really soak up the 80s. A lot of the kids today ive spoken with wish they had been a part of our generation. At least the videos and music are still around.
Plenty of people were using MR. BROWNSTONE back in the 1980's and 1970's. And Crystal METH (Pervitin) was already used by the German Wehrmacht in WWII to reduce fear, reduce need of sleep, and increase aggressiveness - noting the HORRENDOUS Physical and Psychotic INSANITY EFFECTS of Crystal METH, as well as the PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE by destruction of brain cells, SHRINKING of the BRAIN's key MEMORY, ORIENTATION, and NAVIGATION areas, and destruction of the brain's MOTIVATION (REWARD - PUNISHMENT) function - leading to emotional and social withdrawal of even light users.
Aldo's so vampiric in this video. I know people that were freaked out by this one at the time. They were definitely thinking outside the box when they made this. Underrated artist.
Takes me back. Love the sound the lyrics and the attitude. Ahead of it's time. Begged my mom to sit down and watch this video, halfway through she got up and said: this damn song is about drugs!!!! And left in a huff. Mothers.......they just didn't understand. Lol.
This tune rocks out with a vengeance! And a message. It's as viable today as it was then. Songs like this are what the monster receivers and speakers of the 70's and 80's were made for! The 80's STILL ROCK!
This my favorite song Aldo had done up to this point. I really liked the original video. There was a message behind this song and it flat out rocked! This was a big reflection on the music that was coming out in the 80's. I loved MTV when it first started into the 2nd or 3rd year before in manifested into something else. MTV was a big help to Aldo. Music is so much better with video of the band and is a great back drop for any message being conveyed. This song was so relevant at the time. It is just as relevant now. "Fantasy" and "Monkey on your back" are timeless master pieces that Aldo introduced to all of us. Thank you so much for sharing Aldo!!! I can't wait to here an instrumental album that is in you. I want you to write it all and play every instrument. The best album you ever did has still yet to be written and recorded.... I can't wait!!!! Thank you Aldo!
Leather, Lasers, Aqua-Net & Baboons! Good GOD! I guess I know why I haven't heard from Aldo Nova in a while. That was fucking awesome! *tears streaming down my face* I'll be laughing for days over that.
i loved Aldo´s music thirthy years ago, and still do now.back in the 1991 i met Adrian Vandenbergh from whitesnake and we were talking about great guitar players, and asked him of Aldo Nova, and he told he can play with everyone...
Aldo, David Sykes on Bass, Kevin Carlson (r.i.p) on lead guitar, and billy carmassi ( yes...Denny Carmassi's little brother. Denny was the more famous sibling, who played with Montrose, Heart and Coverdale-Page) cool band here. i remember them on MTV, before MTV turned into a steaming, worthless pile of 'affected-90's Gen' DogShit. some of these guys hangin' around Sacramento in the 80's, when i was living there. i played drums for a band called Northrup. best times...
@@markhuddleston5810 Hello Mark. Yes. Johnny was our singer for 2 1/2 years in Northrup. He went on after that to play for a couple years in Foreigner, and Royal Jelly, with his buddy Danny Stag, from Kingdom Come. he's now living back in the Louisville Area...and in a band called Blue Phonique.
@SabuPtolemy Hi Sabu...forgetting or 'unsure'..if anything on Enigma was pending or 'due to be released. ( been over 30 years...guess i 'could ask JK?) but i know we were being courted by Kenny Kommisar at Atlantic, and even Kalodner at Geffen at the time. many other 'names of A&R guys...being thrown about, during that time period. No...never performed under Gypsy Soul. that is a 'working title' name...that Kalil Turk, at Escape Music...decided to affix to our old Northrup product...for Release. ( unsure of 'why...he decided to do that?...JK knows...) That original Northrup band wouldn't have 'done a show' since 1990 or so. for something very recent..search for the "Mood Groove' Project on RU-vid...think there are several tunes on there (Funk Soul Sister...and 'Moon Calling Sun")...much more recently recorded down in Sac, at Alien Production by JK and his partner Scott Vice ( Ed Balldinger) along with myself and Larry Hart, both Northup Alumni...and a host of other great musicians. cool stuff...and JK did a marvelous job producing, playing and mixing/mastering all that. some very awesome 'Zappa-esque' material... hope you enjoy!
This song is my favorite Aldo Nova song of all time. It is totally underrated and mostly forgotten but damn is it relevant. Every time I open the paper, I read another story about the Heroin crisis we are having. "Too many rides on the horse got him hooked and that's a pity!" This song is a 2014 PSA waiting to be discovered.
Ernest B It's not just heroin, it's opiates especially Fentanyl and OxyContih... prescription shit that unscrupulous doctors prescribe like it's candy.... kids getting hold of the stuff. Jeez.
Definitely a state of the Art video for back then . I remember watching it and unfortunately learning the meaning of that term. And sadly to say I have lost several cousins to heroin addiction and thought that was a thing of the past until it came back in full force and has devastated many parts of our country. My one cousin stopped using and lived a clean life no alcohol no tobacco and lived 30 years longer then hepatitis from the needles got him. My other cousin every organ failed and she just diminished to wheel chair and body shutdown. Bayer the maker of aspirin created heroin to kill pain, " Man it just Kills" period end of story.
You thought they would get a better monkey. Like Tom Savini's "Fluffy" from Creepshow. That's a terrifying monkey even though this song is about heroin addiction.
The entire SUBJECT album is awesome, IMHO. I particularly enjoy Track 3 “Armageddon” and the scorching - Track 12 - “War Suite” It will forever remain engrained in the memories of my gloriously misspent youth. I purchased it on vinyl, and to this day enjoy listening to it. It’s crazy to think that during this era, and shortly thereafter, Aldo got hooked on the China White.
