Yes. ANd because he was decent and thoughtful enough to keep it to himself modern gays and liberals say "he hated himself". Even though there is ZERO evidence of that.
@@dustylong Darth has a problem with gay people. To him, they should keep quiet about their gay partners and not mention what they did on the weekend. It's all OK if you don't mention the word 'gay' or say you are gay. Sort of 1950s mentality in the 21st century. Strange.
It is sad many men from that era until the present day were forced to conceal who and how they loved. Great actors/actresses always leave this world many gifts within their professional works. The majority will not careless about who and how they loved simply hope that they found love along with eternal peace
as much as to conceal who they lust too. Worst if they went to the public bathroom they risk being caught. This happened with John Gielgud when he was younger. He was on the stage. It was silenced.
@@herb_kush a great actor/actress is simply that. Nothing less or more who and how they love is redundant. It's the legacy of their work that lives on IMHO
@@michaelmcgee8543 yes they were forced to take many risks including facing prison until the late sixties. Seems like a world away from today's more open society. Seems very backward thinking and unbecoming of the world we now live in. In the same way that the sixties saw the rise of the civil rights movements sixty years ago. I'm sure there was a lot of bigotry and hate in the world that we continue to remove generation by generation
A rather unflattering account of someone who appears to have been quite complicated and unpleasant- possibly due to his unstable upbringing. He was a good actor, despite this.
Being self-loathing is not a surprise. He was raised in a society that viewed homosexuality as wrong. Like Rock Hudson, he feared that he would hurt his acting career, just like Anthony Perkins did . They put their acting first before their sex life . This is typical of all actors. Their art comes first before anything else, including morality and politics.
@michaelmcgee8543 Well, I think that was nicely stated and so fairly. What I wonder about tho is how soon or not our fellow humanity will come to understand and accept the ancient multifariously demonstrated FACT, that Mother Nature implants such dual amorous 'capacity' into her primate males? WHEN is this nonsense of torturous, willful madness going to end? From out of psychology's realm the key definition of apparent contention is . . . > polymorphous-sexual < Meaning that, Nature as arranged for we males to possesses the innate capacity to exchange love and attraction to-and-for gender opposites or S-A-M-E-S ! What Nature does has purpose, unlike way too much of what we think, come to believe and attempt. Now, as-to just what such a purpose might be, I'll leave to all of you as wondering. (It would not require too much brain power nor observing to divine, for more rationally-configured inquiring minds. Give it a go!) The hard cases on themselves, all around them as well as without are the MYSTICS, which types cannot be moved by reason nor demonstration, and thus their nearly insuperable hardness of opinionation, regarding the subject. With these -- "Houston! We've got a problem!!!" For a novel and delightful change, let's all get smart go forward, and prosper.
@@herb_kush they were not gay they will bisexual. Kevin Spacey is gay and quite rightly it was found not guilty in the sexual allegation cases recently in London. Sometimes you people do not want to know the facts
Privacy vs A personal agendas. Why must we pry ? Why do we judge from ignorance in curiosity, which only leads to stones being thrown by jealously and failed attempts. Alex Guinness was a phenomenal Actor. And that's all that needs to be said.
It's 2023. Most people couldn't care less if someone was/is gay, bisexual, or whatever. Personally, I blame a lot of religions for the persecution and prejudices. On a sidenote, homosexuality even occurs within the animal kingdom such as Bonobos, Albatrosses, Penguins, and the rest. It's normal behaviour. I know your titles are always a bit 'click-baity' but I think most of us are over this sort of thing. Perhaps I'm wrong, and often am.
@@herb_kush Sorry, but I'm not 'one' but have a family member who is. Nobody pushed anything on anyone. I suggest changing your 'sole' news source you're currently using. Edit: Joined Jun 20, 2023 You're just another troll account. I shouldn't have bothered.
Always so admired the chap. If forced to choose which of his roles I like best, it would be as the general in Dr. Zhivago. As with all past-master actors, he was unique.
Just ditching the dirt! Kenneth Williams was rather petty in his diaries. I never heard of Alec in a court case because of homosexuality. I heard he was partly homosexual. It's possible his audience would have exonerated & applauded him as they did Gielgud in similar circumstances. Why pigeonhole people? As Bogarde is supposed to have said "I'm not going to spell it out for people!"
Why would Guiness have revealed his sexuality when homosexuality was considered a crime in the UK until the 1960's? Homosexuality and spirituality are not contradictory.
Guinness converted to Catholidm in 1956 and knew that homosexuality is not acceptable (Old and New Testaments) so it was sheer hypocrisy to deny his preference. Fine if you are a non-believer, but don't go around claiming you are religious and go around cruising!
@matthewasherman, Proof ? His own diaries; His wife admitted it to Read when Read wrote his biograohy. His son. His friends. His "coattaging" and getting caught. ....got away by giving a false name once and in the case of the Malta Story incident, he just got away by a hairs breadth. Etc. All these people are liars ? As I've said before, I don't care if it weren't for hypocrisy.
Does it matter? He was a great actor who, outside of his professional career, had a fluid relationship with truth in general, let alone his sexuality. All great actors are great liars and he really was great. The audience's relationship with them should be confined to what they see on film and on the stage. He delivered the goods and everything else was a private matter.
So what? He had a private life which, unlike in the movies, may not have been perfectly happy. He once bumped into James Dean who was showing off his new Porsche. Guinness had a sudden awful feeling and said to Dean “if you drive that car it will kill you”.
Remember, the marxist left has taken control of western civilzation and is rewriting all of history... soon all the great and famous names of history will be gay, black, or female. Or a combination of those three.
Presented (and narrated) with a decidedly midcentury, closet-queenish bitchiness (an odd approach, considering that Alec Guiness's public persona wasn't the least bit fey), this otherwise informative retrospective on one of the finest actors in cinema history could have easily been so much more entertaining if the dated, insulting treatment of Guiness's alleged (and very private) sexuality had instead been replaced with a deeper dive into his incredible list of unforgettable film roles. Unfortunately, though, the almost obsessive pounding away over whether yet another now dead actor was gay or bisexual is pretty unimaginative, immature and just plain boring.
Weird photo....Guinness couldn't drive ! He always said he couldn't drive. Anyway, it was known how many ''gorgeous looking and tough young men' he chose as his chauffeurs !
It was no secret to close friends that he liked young men (especially working class) and rough sex with them. He also had a sexual relationship. With Peter Grenville the film director. While filming "The Ma!he Story" he went to a pub and tried to pick up American sailors....All this was judged up with a quick contact of his solicitor who,one way or another, helped the producer and director out of a very sticky predicamy. He was known (in the early 1930s) as Sir John Gilgud's 'boyfriend . As for privacy: he used "beards" to go to premiers and other functions; close friends knew how hard he was with his wife and son. His wife said to Read that sex stopped around 1954; his son sold a lot of his father's private diaries to the British Library but under certain conditiond. Anyway, one watches Guinness in films because he was a great actor and his private life was not that private ! What bothers a lot of people was his "hypocrisy" ie: his conversion to Catholicism and yet he carried on picking up his chauffeurs are because of his inclination. Why should he announce his homosexuality ? He worried( after the law allowed it) ,as his very close friends said: "about his reputation" .
LOL, I see which way you think. I pity you, truly I do. Gay people are still being murdered for whom they love, and you still mock 'modern gays' for drawing attention to that fact. Shame on you.
