About 35 years ago, I watched the snowman on german television when I was a child. I watched it for some years in a row until it wasn't aired anymore and I've grown older. I forgot the movie. When I was 26 I saw it again by chance on television. I cried instantly. I bought the DVD and watch it on every christmas morning since then. I am 40 now!
I've watched The Snowman every year since I was a kid, I'm now 26 and I'll still watch it happily. It's British culture to turn on Channel 4 every Christmas and watch it.
I'm on a slow, nostalgic musical journey through the 80s via RU-vid and have reached the closing few weeks of 1985,so I'm playing this. Only thing is by sheer chance it's 25th June - the exact opposite time of the year to Christmas Day!
The thing is that it's a common misconception that Aled Jones performed Walking in the Air for the Snowman, but it was a different boy. Aled just became synonymous with the song.
But the Snowman doesn't feature Aled Jones singing this song. The voice you hear in the Snowman' is that of Peter Auty - which is the superior version as far as I'm concerned.
I'm Norwegian, but half English, and once my father showed me this and told me it was a christmas tradition in England I kept rewatching it every year, and it's really become a part of my tradition. While it's not on in Norway I take the liberty to go onto RU-vid and cast it to the tv for my Norwegian family to join in with as well. Love this song!
Those who are complaining that the video isn't related, it is. It is the official video for Aled Jones' version of walking in the air. And the reason there are not clips from the snowman is because this is a different version. The original (the one from the snowman) is by Peter Auty.
I just watched the snowman and I still cry to it even though I’ve seen it about 1000 times... I love this song so much and I hope y’all have a merry Christmas and hopefully you get to see your loved ones soon!
Such a professional at such a young age. Beautifully sung with a beautiful voice. Thank you Aled. God bless you and your family and your good solid contribution today to television.
We're walking in the air We're floating in the moonlit sky The people far below are sleeping as we fly I'm holding very tight I'm riding in the midnight blue I'm finding I can fly so high above with you Far across the world The villages go by like trees The rivers and the hills The forest and the streams Children gaze open mouth Taken by surprise Nobody down below believes their eyes We're surfing in the air We're swimming in the frozen sky We're drifting over icy Mountains floating by Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep We're walking in the air We're floating in the midnight sky And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly
I was only about 10 years old when this came out... ...I didn't appreciate it. But - as I have aged - i have developed an appreciation for it...love it now! ❤️
I had a cassette tape of Aled’s years ago which I wore out through playing it so much! He had a beautiful voice then & after a break was able to come back singing as an adult😊
This is definitely one of the most heart-crushingly beautiful songs I think I have ever ever heard; it's life-affirming; it makes you glad to have been born.
This song I remember mid 80’s when I was a young kid, just brings back so many happy memories from a wonderful time, life changes fast but it’s great to come back to those moments listening to this song !
Being Greek never had seen this short movie till 2 days ago that national network of ερτ played this while I was in my couch, having my son on the carpet in front of the fire place playing. Got my attention instantly from the begining, wow what a piece of art. The song is mesmerizing and even If I never watch national TV Channel I am amazed of how this got my attention so naturally. This is a masterpiece of no comparison
This wasn't a Christmas tradition for me, but I heard it last night after I don't know how many years, and I was like, "how did I forget about such a beautiful song??!!!!" I'm so glad its back in my life.
This scene gives a sense of existing in a world which is far from suffering. A world of magic and tranquility. Somehow even as a 25 year old, I feel the spirit of The Snowman with me. Merry Christmas everyone.
not only that. Imagine, All I want for Christmas is you, Driving home for Christmas and that's just the point of the iceberg. I work for tesco and apart from my first year (oh, music, so excited), when the 1st of Dec comes...you better run b**** -.-"
It reminds you of a time gone. A moment in history when our culture peaked a moment that will be lost in time like tears in rain. Our cultures and traditions will eventually fade away, humanity itself will eventually fade away into nothingness. This song will float around in the vast emptyness of space until even that dissapates into noise and then nothingness. We are all here in this moment, we are blessed and we can be forever, we just have to want it.
This young man, though am sure he's much older now, had the most enchanting, beautiful voice This song and his vocal chords will never be forgotten Brought to life each year at Christmas as The Snowman arrives and the festive season and memories truly start and never end....🎶🎶🎶......🎄.......!!..
Symonds Yat is in England and Aled Jones is from Bangor, North Wales. The N Wales accent is VERY different from the South Wales valleys, so not sure which Welsh accent you love...not that it matters of course, they are all equally bad :-)
I was in primary when I first heard this, and now I’m 15 & I still play it every Christmas Edit: I'm 17 now and im still listening to this gem, PS. RIP Raymond Briggs
What a magnificent and cherished song. One may imagine the awe and wonder of the child who is soaring high above the world in his journey to a land unknown as this plays.
This song is beautiful ...it made xmas growing up ...you knew xmas was coming when this song played. As an adult now this is such a beautiful song to listen too its heartwarming ❤
This is my favourite version of the song. And no one in Canada has really heard of it and look at me like I"m crazy when I mention it but at least it's not overplayed.
It's a classic. My ex bf's mate, father two my ex's nephews, asked me to watched this with his sons, as it's a British Xmas tradition, and I was a language student back then in 1998
Aled Jones always used to run off with the football in school! We were very jealous of his success back then, but this song really has stood the test of time. It was filmed in the Ogwen valley, Snowdonia, North Wales. I'm looking forward to heading up there in a few weeks when it snows! Thanks for the upload.
