this synth is a true piece of art and designed by hardcore synth freaks .. the downside is that it was decided by the guys in suits to use the most cheapest inside parts. i just can't believe a synth this powerful was so badly produced .. the saddest story in synthland ever .. it kicks butt in competition with every nowadays analog synth. the andromeda has all ultimate features that are often missing in most new modern synths too, meaning that this was obviously designed by very enthusiastic people with knowledge what a powerhouse synth should be capable of. soundwise, especially if you edit deeper it just gets insaner and insaner. the absolute biggest downside of this gem is that if it ever breaks down you're fucked. parts and support are none .. and if chips are fried you would need to buy a very expensive new board without the security you are safe because once it starts there seems no way back than use it and sit it out and let it die. many many andromeda's have broken down, won't start up, have unstoppable jitters, unfinished O.S, just odd things. if you have one, treat it with respect. in the end i parted with mine due to these issues .. it was a very tough decision.

Wow...Katsunori posts a review of this synth the same day I purchase this synth on EBay. Can't wait to spend endless hours exploring the sound possibilities of this beast.
At one point I had 2 of them. Sold.them both in the name of bills. Fortunately I got one back. Still the best poly by a landslide and ive played them all. Yes all... jp4,6,8, obx,4,8 voice cs80, p5, memory moog, matrix 12. Sure the obx and 8 voice and rolands sound a little purer but think of the andromeda as a 16 voice 4 oscillator modular with 16 seperate outputs. It really is the most sophisticated analog of all time. One little talked about feature is the process menu which completely changes the character of the synth, from slow and spongey like oberheims to fast and plucky like a jupiter 6. Also the 6 stage envelopes with adjustable curve shapes at every segment. The thing's not only a helluva chameleon but exceeds everything it can copy by a mile. Ive had mine 14 years and virtual analog still doesnt come close. The closest to this thing is a matrix 12 but way less fun, maybe an studio electronics omega code but still does way less. Im waiting for.the korg oasys analog version! If anyone can exceed this its korg, but im pretty sure its the andy that bankrupted alesis. True awesome is never appreciated in its.time.
Just wait till it doesn't boot anymore and you can use it as 3000 + table because all the critical parts A6 main board etc. are worldwide sold out, see if you still like when this happens and it will, just a matter of time.

Matrix 12 is much more powerful and sophisticated then the Andromeda. It got 24 oscillators and there is 15 types of LFOs and VCAs per voice. And it features the deepest form for Matrix Modulation ever implemented in a synth, and it also got Frequency modulation capabilities. And then there is the sound! its simply the most advanced mass produced analog synth of all time.
This synth needs to make a comeback, Ujiie-sama.... I'm kicking myself I didn't get one when they were still in production. A very versatile and capable machine. I freaked out at how good it was when I heard someone squeeze some Walter Carlos 'Bach' movements out of it. Dead ringer!! Alesis should sell the patent to someone like Behringer or Korg to resurrect this magnificent design.
This synth's control panel design was designed by the reputable German industrial designer Axel Hartmann, who was responsible for the design of many synths, including various Waldorf products and of course his own company products, like the obscure and rare Hartmann Neuron.
Best A6 demo I've seen. I owned this for 2 yrs and was never able to get anything like that out of it! Awesome, but it is a buggy beast, though; this makes me wish I had it back even more! But the price now!?!?!?
I baught one piece from the last shipment of A6 in 2009. Honestly, A6 is a most beautifual synth ever, but not easy to master it. too complicated.... but I believe synth freak will be happy to take challenge and master this gear. Besides, it's PCMCIA memory card slot could offer you more than thounsands of sounds expansion easily, but again, not that easy for patch creation, depends on your talents. To sum up, it's a monster like another gear of mine which is Hartmann Neuron, bothl crazy synths in history.
This and the Alesis Fusion are great synths.. it is really sad they went bankrupt after they invested so much on both the synths and their new hard disk recorder
+ King Shaman : I fully understand what you mean. Like 30 years ago I owned a real museum, euh studio full of analogs. (M12, OB8, Mini, PPG, P5, VS, AX80, and many more) Glad I sold them all. Always broken and always payed lot's of repair cost. I was so tired of it and now I own Virus B, C, TI, JD's, AN1X, Novation SNII since many years. With real high end DAC's (Apogee & Lynx) no one can tell the difference in a final production. Even better, digital sounds fatter, nastier, punchier. ANALOG is a MYTH. The only reason to own analog synths is when you collect. Musically, analog doesn't mean shit and people who continue to tell that analog is 'better' have no idea what they talk about. I now some guys with real analog modular labs (instead of studios) Well to be honest, they own a 50.000$ Moog Modular and produce nothing but fwieeep fwieep plonk sounds...
I've obtained one Andromeda A6 in 2009 and still keep this gear with clear shape, but it's really difficult to manage the full function. Very complicated gear but the voice is extremely FATTTTT.... You know, digital gear can't defeat analog power at all ....whatsoever.. probably nowaday only few people know how the real analog power is.... just would like to mention it again here...... but analog power is gone for years...
Got it when it came out. Sound-wise it never grew on me. Switch off the fx and it falls apart. It's not full analog either. All but the oscillators is digital, env, lfo everything that could bring it to life.
finally he demo's the Alesis Andromeda. it's a bit of an odd monster with less character than an OB8, Jupiter 6,8 or Prophet 5 but it is so flexible and it's modular capabilities makes you go and create the most amazing weird sounds. I still have one in the studio and am still happy with it. I'm not sure what's going on with the blinking lights, very weird and never seen it before.
Should have bought one in 2003 while it was only 2400,- €. Now it´s 2013 and the price is > 2500,- €. :( Sounds great! Keep the good demos coming UJIIE. Domo arrigato. :)
"crappy brand" >nope it may have become but honestly NO, the Alesis reverbs were amongst the best , the Adat launched zillions of records in the 90s, the drum modules like the D4 brought amazing sounds triggered from your own acoustic kit, the Alesis QS synths weren't that bad either, the Monitor One studio monitors were the first fordable yet workable recording monitors.. they launched the most used digital audio standard in studios in the 90s still in use today for multitrack recording, etc.

This the synth Daanja used to make Justin Timberlake's "Future Sex Love Sounds" with. He coproduced with Timbaland on that one. He also produced most of Blackout for Britney spears
+- AmbieticA - The Andromeda was developed prior to the 2001 bankruptcy and subsequent Jack O'Donnell takeover. Alesis today is a very different company from what is once was.
The lights don't blink in real life, that's due to the video, it records frames between the minute "pulses" of light (it happens to LEDS on a lot of machines that are at a certain frequency). Still I agree it does look like your description here.

Beautiful demo as always -- incredible musician on an incredible synth! Alesis Andromeda is one of the best poly analog synths of all time, 16 voices of pure analog heaven. Can be a bit difficult to program but if you persevere, you'll be rewarded well. I recently obtained one and am astonished at its sonic capabilities, especially for ambient soundscapes. Thank you for the demo Katsunori, it was fantastic... pls check my channel for some more Andromeda demos when you get a chance. :)

I have been on the point of buying a J8 for a while but really struggled to find one in acceptable condition. I could get one from five G in Japan but HM fucking Government will hit me for £1k+ in import duty. I never considered alesis, perceiving them as an unreliable brand but you sir have persuaded me to take a punt on one of these!
couldn't keep up with the costs of manufacturing it and they were selling at a very low price for what it was, If anyone got one of these they got the best bang for the buck
I wish someone (who already has lots of resources) would be courageous enough to take the Andromeda where Alesis left it and make it right this time. And maybe get the original A6 team back together to complete the project ? (I know I'm dreaming again...) I could buy one now locally for $3.5K (Canadian dollars) since there's a guy selling one (in perfect condition he says), but I'm scared stiff about all of the possible issues with it down the road... The DSI OB6 or Prophet 6 are interesting, but not enough voices and not enough octaves on the keyboard, for more money than an Andromeda. A Schmidt is also interesting but not at $20K US, and it only has 8 voices...
I would love an Andromeda as well. I have a Prophet 6 and to be honest...I sort of prefer it over anything else because it's so immediate with no menu. The octave range isn't a huge issue. I was once fanatical that it was 4 octaves, no splits or layers but after a while I literally was programming patches that matched early John Carpenter. Sometimes less is more. The Andromeda sounds fantastic but there's something almost "too much" or overpower with the sound with 16 voices. I mean Yamaha CS80 and even Jupiter 8 didn't have that many voices. I think if any synth should make a comeback it's the criminally overlooked ARP Quadra which was 4 synth engines in a single keyboard with 4 different individual patches that could be played at once with their own sequences.
The oscillators and filters seem to have this OB-Xa feel to them for the most part. A nice synth which seems to retain its value over time, but apparently bankrupted the company because it cost a lot to build the thing with all those high quality parts. Not a piece of junk where the knobs fall off like Korg or something.
This is right up there with Roland Jupiter 8 as a holy grail, just a lot newer. A shame they stopped making them. Everything has gone smaller, compact, cheaper. :/
William Braddell on various videos of his, there are some folks who insult his speaking, his playing, not learning to speak English, etc. -- hence the comment. :-) I was doing a playlist of gear (I'm selling some of my stuff on eBay right now) ... and started to notice some of the comments, and went wow, really? Anyway.... was just my comment at the time last year. Those may have been voted down, also.
Not racist to criticizing a person for not talking English. People should learn to use the word more properly, since its quite a serious claim. Anyways, I think that him talking Japanese is simply charming. I love UJIIE, such a nice and cool guy. Marvelous synth also!
Man when this thing hit the shelves, I hit the floor, but my friend bought one and now it won't even turn on - he can't even find parts anywhere. Now it's a 3.5K dusty coffin with dead circuits inside. Analog burns big, hot and fast. Maybe a Virus would have been a better choice.
Thanks for telling. So I better forget about the one I saw on Ebay for 3.400 euros, and get a Prophet, even if the sound quality is inferior. Dont want a synth that cannot be repaired one day
Daniel Fisch If your main board fails you can bin it. A6 main is the name of that board, try to find one. They fail plenty and Alesis has zero worldwide since 12-2013 so do the math.
Development of this beauty costs SOOOO much to Alesis. Production expensive too. There is not much of collectioners, musicicans who understand synthesis and capable to use Andy on 100%. It is not good for business )
