Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Heartened to see such a synth brought back to good health thanks to you. Do you know what the replacement screen part for the Alesis QSR is? I have one that's gone very dim and wonder how hard it is to switch out.
Hi there, Great and informative video. Some great patches too. Glad to know you like IQ because they are brilliant live, my first concert was the last time they performed Subterrania in it's entirety. Wow, what amazing musicians they are, and nice, funny guys as well. Regards, David.
Nice job! Enjoyed this. I admit I’ve had a soft spot for Alesis since the Quadrasynth was my first keyboard purchase. It was stolen out of my apartment however, but since then I’ve kept my eye out for the brand and fairly recently bought their DM10 Mesh drum kit. I always considered getting a QS8.1 or QSR but instead went for a new Roland RD-2000. Thanks for putting this out there!
Absolutely. That said, you can get great sounds out of digital synths that you couldn't dream of getting on an analog synth. It's all about the programming.
Very informative video. I noticed you were changing the patches from your controller. Could you teach us newbies how to set-up patch changes via midi from the sound module via a keyboard controller? I think this would be one of those very helpful lessons (and no one on RU-vid has gone to the trouble to show how it is done. I can't find any lessons anywhere). Thanks!
Thanks for posting. I really appreciate your taking time to thoroughly explain everything in a way that's easy to understand. I have a QSR that I purchased new around '97. Haven't used it since it started cutting on and of rapidly. I turned it on again recently and now it just makes a loud buzzing sound. I've tried using it with two different a/c adaptors but no change. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?
Super nice and informative video. Since I have exact same problem I thought that I will see similar damage to my capacitors, however they look perfectly fine, just like brand new. Can they still be bad if there is no visually physical damage?
Excellent video. I think you did a great job with your explanations. I have a QS8 keyboard and I noticed that one of your keys were also broken. I have five keys that has collapsed because the plastic clips that hold them in place have fallen apart just due to time(creep). You know of any way to fix collapsed keys?
Hey Music Addict, man so i just bought a Alesis S4 plus rack, and have spent 3 hours trying to figure out why it is not receiving midi data. I own two QSR synth keyboards that receive midi no problem, have tried all of the suggestions in the manual, any ideas on how to get this damn thing to receive midi messages?? Thank you much
Good video, I have a qs6 synth, with the same blank green screen,...but it makes sounds, banks etc changes ..but I can't see any ..characters on the screen...I also changed the power supply,...could this be ..the same problem with / on my synth?? Thanks.!!
I know his is off the topic but ive been looking around for you for the controller of controllers. its the Rodger Linn Linnstrument. track ste sequences arbitrary variable lengths also, poly after touch after touch, x, y, etc etc theres alot. Just letting you know. I may get this one. its fully programmable down to, scales keys, modes, and their position and etc. take a look.
Your best bet is to go on eBay and search for "2200uf 16v radial." From there, just chose the best deal from the most reputable seller. There shouldn't be a huge difference in quality from one to the next. If you want something a little more "official," enter that search string at digikey.com or mouser.com. Those places specialize in these sorts of components.
Ha! That's exactly what I thought as I was putting the video together. :-) Regarding the scoring at the top of the caps: yup, that's exactly why they're scored. They provide an intentional weak point in case the cap fails spectacularly.
just bcause you dont like the sounds doesnt mean they are bad sounds, its just your opinion, theres nothing wrong with 90's sounds, they sound even better than the shitty modern synths with shitty thin ultra modern sounds that have no texture and soul, back in the days they where far more creative in music and sound design.
Hey Jeff, great vid. I noticed you were changing the Programs on the QSR via your midi controller. How or what CC value do you assign? I’ve only been able to get it to switch to Banks while Gen Midi is off on the QSR. Midi select prg is on as well. Tried both PGM & mix mode. Can’t 4 the life of me get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Nick
Sorry for the late reply! This was a long time ago and my memory is very fuzzy on it, but I don't think that I had to do anything special on the QSR to make this work other than possibly enabling MIDI Program Changes on it. There's no CC values that need to be assigned.
