He’s chocking the carb. Limiting the air intake to cool the motor, since they were air cooled, 2 strokes. If you didn’t do that the motor would surely overheat, and likely seize

@@franciscopacobarreras9270 i've also seen water cooled engines with pilots that do the same thing.

@@Ayce47 yes it is also done. It probably depends which class you are running. If you’re running a Formula A, with that type of carburetor you would probably do it, on most gearbox classes it would probably not be necessary if you have your engine well carburated (if that is even a word)

@@Ayce47 haha! Nah! You hardly even notice when you do it, it’s so quick. If you hold your hand there for too long you’d feel it, but it’s jut a quick cover and lift right before you lift the throttle so you’re full open. Don’t even lose time.
