Alex Batty went missing at 11 years old. Six years later, he was found walking on a road in France, and thanks to that chance encounter, he's shared his story with officials and preparing to reunite with some family members. Michael George has more.

Nice your covering this story happening over here CBS, but the only part you got wrong is that the driver did not just drop him off. He went inside with him to help explain to police what had happened since the French man does speak English. Further update to my fellow statesman/women across the pond. He was not educated this entire time but police say he's very bright and charasmatic. The police and the family are asking for respect in this time since this is a huge transition for him which is why there is no coverage or photos of what he looks like now.

the grandmother and grandfather had custody of him. The mother and grandfather kidnapped him and went to what police suspect is a cult that they were living at this entire time.

do people not listen to entire stories anymore?! the grandmother had custody. The grandfather and his mum took him on holiday to spain and then disappeared. They kidnapped him and joined a cult. He finally escaped when his mom was planning on taking him to finland.

did you not listen to the entire story. The mother along with that cult were planning on moving to Finland and that is when he decided he needed to escape/leave because he wanted to go back to the UK to be with his Grandmother. He was kidnapped at 11. I'm sure they did a lot of brainwashing to keep him for 6 years but he was brave enough to finally escape not knowing where he was with no phone or anything and just start walking.

What an adventure. On one hand, he's had such freedom that is rarely experienced in this day and age. On the other hand, his formal educational opportunity has been severely hindered but does not mean that he cannot gain immensely from this experience and be far more capable of dealing with life than some cramped academic gauntlet run.

He has a lot of catching up to do. But in custody battles it's not unusual for one parent to take the child to another country. At 17, I should think he is able to make his own decisions. Glad his grandmother know he is alive. Wonder why mother moved to Finland? It's very cold up there. Maybe she intends to live with Sammi?

Not really. Mom lives with a roaming cult. Grandparents have custodial guardianship so the boy could have structure. Custodial grandfather goes to see the mother, dies. Boy can't get a ride home - which is in violation of the court order. Boy is forced to live with the roaming cult even though Grandma is back in England worried sick about her grandson because roaming cults aren't ideal for child development.

@@The1stDukeDroklarand sometimes, they are very right. He walked for 4 days and nights to get away from his ‘mother’ and when given the chance, he reached out to his grandmother who had custody. His mother took him and then he had to live the life of a nomad because of her selfishness.

The grandparents had custody. Mom asked for her parenting time to take the child “on vacation” for 2 weeks to Spain. In doing so, she kept him longer (kidnapping) and he ran off because he realized she was taking him into Finland-away from the Border of France & Spain where he was living. It’s all in the video if you watched it lol

It's about parental responsibility & so if the mother had been deemed unfit to be the child's mother & the grandmother was granted full custody, then it is classed as abduction even though it's the biological mother. Besides, you heard what the text message said he just wants to "come home" His home is with his grandmother. I can't imagine the trauma he's been in being kept from where he feels the safest

there are no pictures of him right now. police are trying to give him privacy and his family. the picture you see is him of 11 if you see anything else. then that's not him

wow. the ignorance we americans show. listen to the entire story. his grandmother had custody. his grandfather and mom took him in spain on holiday and disappeared. for 6 years he was in a cult. do you understan that? he was not educated the entire time. she was planning on taking him to finaland. i'm sure it took a lot of guts (despite him being 17) to finally just leave and walk for four days not knowing the language or where your at and not having a phone to try to get back to england. if you had a kid and someone other than you (with you having custody) in your family just takes your child and disappears...what would you call that? i guess in your mind thats not kidnapping. i feel bad for you if you have kids and this happens since you apparently have a different definition of what kidnnapping is.
