The police are looking into the case of 17-year-old Alex Batty, who went missing during a holiday in Spain when he was 11. Now, officers from Greater Manchester Police have talked to Alex since he came back from France.
Before confirming the type of investigation, the police needed to hear from Alex. He was discovered walking in the French Pyrenees by a delivery driver who found him on a road near Toulouse last week, six years after he disappeared.
Alex's mother and grandfather had gone on a planned holiday with him to Marbella in Spain on September 30, 2017, but he went missing during the trip.
Diasy McAndrew speaks with formet Met detective Peter Bleksly and psychotherapist Gary Bloom.

Children who have travelled the world and lived by learning practical skills, have a much broader skillset and knowledge than many who spent years in High School. As well, High School in Oldham, perhaps he'd have been stabbed by now. Seems like the parent and grandfather's failings where in perhaps lack of socialisation due to isolation and having some maybe hardcore ideological ideas about life. sounds like, on ewhat has been heard so far, the mther and grandfather kidnapped him from the grandmotehrs custody in the uk, thereby breaking UK law.

another issue is his education. I do take your point. However, I think it will depend on the laws of the countries he was living in, be that Morroco if that is true, spain France.. wherever they traelled to about home education. Perhaps, who knows, they hae to prove what that home school was. it will all come out in the enquiry of course. Theother thing to take into account is now he has reached his majority under UK law it may be a light touch on the mother and grandfather. We will see.

The 'dad' who was with them was Alex's grandmother's partner..... strange. So the 'dad' is not in fact Melanie's dad at all. Weird. I hope Ais OK. The mother is a selfish narcisst. The man is not Alex's biological grandad.

❤ to Alex Batty- Big questions - a young man taken away from society and abused speaks in a way more articulate way than school educated 17-20 yr olds. Also, WAY more importantly Alex speaks so forgivingly and with such positivity and zero blame. Mandela vibes. Doesn't everyone want positive under their roof? Kudos to the lovely medic who who picked Alex up.😊- IMO companies who require computer skills (Alex Batty wants to do) will be lining up to support him.

No mobile is not a bad thing. No friends or education, however... And the responsibility that's been put onto him. Not good. Editing to add: I don't mean any responsibility. I mean feeling responsible for his mother. That role reversal at a young age is too much. I'm glad he was able to prioritise himself.

Any relation to Luke Batty aged 11 who was murdered by his father in 2014? This was in Melbourne Australia and his mother Rosie Batty who was originally British became Australian of the Year for her work with domestic violence issues.

Whatever the actions of his mother, she and his grandad obviously did not neglect him, he seems to have been well fed, given books, well clothed and his mother obviously loved him no matter how misguided she was. There is no need to bring in criminal charges against his mother and grandfather as this will add to any stress Alex may have suffered. He is a lovely young man. Leave him alone to get on with his life. Good luck to you Alex.

12 yo Alex went to Spain for holidays with his mom and grandfather and didn't return back to England, been living off grid in France, Marocko and Spain, an alternative lifestyle but free to come and go as he wished. Now, at the age of 17, six years later, he left his mom and grandfather because he wanted to create a life of his own. He left a loving note to his mom and took off, he got enough money, skate board, some personal belongings to make it walking alone aimlessly the roads in a kind of country side place, he hitch hiked with a driver and told him his name. They drove to the police station as Alex wanted to get in touch with his grandmother who also is his guardian and the rest is history... media is unfortunately twisting the story in so many ways, making a huge drama of it

I am so happy Alex is back with his grandmother!! In the USA last year 359,094 kids went missing. 50% were parental abductions. By human nature, Alex wants to protect his Mom. I respectfully disagree with the therapist. My child was groomed and abducted. Her education was delayed. Plus relationships and things were taken from her but she was made to feel like it was normal. Let's talk about the grandmother's trauma. Of course she's happy her grandson is home. But what about her suffering and trauma? And other targeted parents? Let's not protect the abuser. Yes, I will call this abuse. Because that's what it is. We cannot trivialize abuse. What was done to him was harmful. What was done to his grandmother was harmful. What was done to me and my child was harmful. We cannot allow this to be normalized. And, what about the rest of the kids that are being taken? This is not at all rare and it must be stopped. Children have human rights - relationships, education, etc. His were stolen. If there is no deterrent it will continue. What will be the count next year? Those are not numbers, they are kids. Parentification abuse contributes to parent/guardian alienation abuse. Alex is fine now, but what about when he starts college? That will likely be so difficult for him. Denying education is abuse. Denying a child access to their safe loved ones is abuse. Let's remember that the mother did not have parental rights. There was a reason for that. Denying education is a crime. What if it was your kid? I say let Alex stay in touch with his Mom if he so chooses, but throw the book at her and the abuser/abductor grandfather. Save the children! Grooming is nomalizing bad behavior. Grooming is predatory behavior. Alex deserves to see that if there is no accountability another child will be taken tomorrow. How will he feel then? We cannot let him bear the responsibility of his abusive/abducting Mother. Delusions have already done soo much harm. Prayers for Alex's future!!🙏💖

There are too many of these community type places in Europe. Too many "New Lives in the Sun" type places. Life is not always a bowl of cherries. In Northern Almeria in Spain there is one. How would you know if anyone is kept there against their will? World schooling, they were saying. Now they have taken that off their website. Even had their Facebook Account taken away at one point.
