Come on Alex, EFNY is a beautiful cult classic with interesting themes and knowing nods to all sorts of beloved genres. And how could you not mention that incredible soundtrack?
I'm really glad that in later years Alex Cox learned to keep his ego in check , or maybe he was having a shit day and decided to take it out on whomever paid him to do this introduction.
For many of us this was the first time we saw this movie, and it became one of our favorite movies of all time. I mean, art really is subjective so Mr. Cox has every right to his opinion, just as much as the next guy, but I've yet to meet anyone who thinks Repo Man is a better film than Escape From New York.
If you want to watch an eye-patched Kurt Russel wandering urban streets with a short-ranged machine pistol that should go through a clip in under ten seconds, yet sports an optic that would be more useful on a long-range sniper rifle, then this is the movie for you. Warning: there are occasional moments of dialogue that get in the way of the walking.
