Alex tried so hard for position but always had to rely on his potting as the white is all over the place. "Old School Snooker" but so great to watch. You can hear Alex criticising himself on simple shots which is part of his package and a great video to watch. Brilliant pink cut; red in the middle at pace; then the red doubled early in the break then unfortunately the 'regulatory' black-off-the-spot miss and so typical after the heroics. Also, you get the balls out the pockets for your opponent Alex!! JV did, but you shied-off.... He's a gent and I think missed at least once on purpose....

@yamyite
@yamyite 4 года назад
If I did the marketing for specsavers I’d have a snooker match and Virgo using his “Commentators eye” and the pot obviously misses, then you see him chipping off to specsavers and then back to a snooker match again and once again after a shot is played he again pronounces “ it’s in commentators eye “ the ball actually goes in, and then it pans to the commentary box with Ken Doherty and John Parrot looking at him gobsmacked, dropping a pen out their hand or some along those lines then specsavers logo pop’s up 👌🏻 (copyright Yamyite 2020)

John Virgo was like Willie Thorne, in the practice room they were both top flight players.. Put a crowd and a camera in front of them, it all went to pot, or not rather... Willie was capable of clearing on one sitting, and I believe had the most recorded 147’s off the silver screen, but just couldn’t perform under pressure.. Alex for me was as flawed as only a true genius can be.. God gives, but he equally takes away in equal measures for those most gifted... I’ve heard he was loving, but a nightmare to live with, he could be extremely generous but equally a right horrible cnut a lot of the time.. On the table however, he was capable of things only trump or white could even contemplate.. No disrespect to Ronnie, if he had the cue power I’d rate him up there but as it’s stands only the three mentioned for me can be described as geniuses.. Ronnie however, will for me always be behind Stephen Hendry, for consistency vs talent.. Hendry for me could have won a world title or two more, if he had not been quite so aggressive on occasions... Let’s not forget, who could seriously live with Alex on top form...? No one, although Trump is certainly the only man I’d say cod possibly come close on occasions..

I really appreciate how much he loved each shot, and the pride in doing a world class job. There's something very sweet about that, he could be a demon in other moments of his life, but that moment when he's taking the shot he cares about the skill and artistry that he's devoted his life to, and that is a moment of truth.

That and the most unorthodox style in the history of the game. I was born in 92 so didn’t experience his heyday but watching old footage it is clear to me that he is the most naturally gifted player with the exception of O’Sullivan.

He was quite often completely, utterly and wonderfully pissed too!

Alex at his best... a sublime fine cut pink....followed by a black ball one handed... true genius of the game. RIP Alex.

What a sad egotistical person he was. Virgo puts the balls up for him and complements some shots. He doesn't have the manners to stay at the table whilst Virgo is playing, never mind reciprocate by playing ref for him.

Fucking genious. They will never have a guy like this in the game again. Pleasure to watch.

That pink and black at the end. No words. Maverick, Genius, etc, these labels don't come close to describing the phenomenon that was Alex Higgins. A man who single-handedly brought snooker into the mainstream and made it popular.

And single-handedly potted that black as well!

And they didn't want him in this gentleman's game the ruling body that is ,because he was a loose cannon, always a joy to watch some of his pots mind blowing, and yes your right he brought the game so forward, sadly missed.

It's amazing to hear Alex speak out loud as he plays and we can hear it, the passion and joy he got out of playing the game, one of the true greats

Alex potted those last two balls, like his life depended on it, and snooker was his life.

What a great game. I have to say that it's this kind of match which determines the best of any sportsman. Not the world championships nor a masters tournament. A private game between two rivals, friends, enemies, brothers, dedicated players. It's not about scoring points or winning a trophy, not even 'winning' the game, it's two masters of the art showing their class, proving themselves in ways not often seen on a big stage. It's this that turns snooker / football / tennis etc from a sport into beaty

only Alex could have made those last two pots, genius, what a sad ending for this man who made snooker, but John would always give Alex a great name.

Belfast Jack thank you for a brilliant post sir! They all owe their living to Alex, he made it watchable and exciting. I've never seen two magical shots like the pink and black in my life. Cheers Joe.
