Alex Honnold’s intrusive thoughts IFSC WC SLC 2024 

Alex’s commentary was the most fun I’ve had watching IFSC in a long time. I usually skip through to the sends but this is one of the few times I watched and enjoyed every minute. Unfortunately, I hope his last comment about prize money doesn’t get him banned from future commentary, not sure if IFSC likes getting called out publicly on broadcast like that, as warranted as it was.

Yes, public knowledge, but it's surprisingly hard to find actual figures. They're publicly available, but you have to really dig to find them on the IFSC website. Matt definitely sounded uncomfortable with the question to me, and only answered because Alex's direct style and follow-up questions gave him no choice. Don't get me wrong, I like Matt's commentary overall, but his extreme reluctance to say anything negative about the IFSC is notorious.

He was commentating the comp because he wanted practice for commentating the upcoming Olympics. The corporate type love Honnold lol, he's the biggest name in rock climbing by far.

Moderating? Nah, he should just be running for president. And I imagine in 10-20-30 years he will. He has this aura of the rich well educated son, who can always look at the big picture of strategy and organization. It comes naturally for him.

Alex: "And graduated college already. It's like you know. Some people just do it all." Matt: "I feel terrible about myself after you said that.." Alex: "I know I dropped out of college so I could go solo 5.10 and you are kinda like.. what was I doing.." Matt: "I think it worked out all right for you though." Alex: "I mean yeah I get to do commentary that's cool."
