He didn't leave, though. Alex would never leave Meredith like that, so that ending isn't even canon to me 🤷♀️🤷♀️ Idk which writer came up with that idea, but they clearly don't know him, and krista vernoff doesn't either.
@@student05-bdes52 No it does make sense, he said from an early age that he never wanted to be the distant dad but be the man is there for his kids. That's, why he left, he left to become a better dad, a father to Izzie's kids. He didn't leave to go with Izzie but to be the Dad the kids needed. Sure I think the writing is rushed, and it would have fixed things if Katherine Heigl made an appearance or even he made a brief appearance at Meredith's house. It would have fixed things. Overall he reasoning for leaving Jo makes sense, I feel like people miss that because there are too focused on the Jo and Alex ship. To which I do like over Izzie and Alex.
I love Alex, but I hate how they threw away all those years/seasons of character development with a letter. Leaving to go be with Izzie is something the old Alex would have done, and I never expected the person he became to do something like that, to hurt that many people... It's just not fair.
We spent 16 seasons, almost 17, giving this man such amazing character development. 16 seasons spent turning him into one of the BEST characters, and they just...shit all over it by making him leave Jo for Izzie. And ik, ik he wanted to be there for his kids but he didn't have to drop everything, y'know like his WIFE, to do so. And he didn't even say anything to her face, he left a note. Are you KIDDING?! Build up all this amazing development just to tear it down at the end? I hate that he left like that.
not to mention when izzie left him by writing a note too if i remember correctly, we all know how much that crushed him. he even ended up standing up for himself and telling her he deserved better. so it makes no sense for him to ghost his wife with a note after what izzie did to him… idc to me the episode he left never happened and he’s on an extended vaycay by himself😌
I think you are missing the point of this. He didn't want his kids to grow up without a father, so he left to become there father. He literally says in the letter that he wouldn't have left if Izzie didn't have kids.
@@haileyparsons3844 I understand that he wanted to be with his kids, I'm not saying he shouldn't have gone to meet them and whatnot because he should've, I'm glad he did, but he did not need to up and leave his wife. He could've told her and asked if she wanted to go with him, he could've talked to Izzie and made plans to have his kids every weekend or smth, he could've at least told Jo in person. I get that Izzie was his first love but Jo was important too. The old Alex would've done smth like this, not the one who grew and became a better person. Especially since he was so mad at Izzie for leaving him through a letter, the least they could've done if they were gonna make him leave was to have him hash it all out in person, because Alex never would've done what Izzie did to him to his family. He just wouldn't have.
@chaosinthestars8280 Alex wanted a traditional family. He always has. Mom and dad that love each other, and happy kids. He COULD have done right by them, been in their life, and co-parented with Izzie while being with Jo, but that's not what Alex REALLY wanted. He wanted pancakes in the morning with his wife and kids kind of family. I know in my heart of hearts that he will be happier than if he tried to do both.

Also Jo would have not been okay with him asking her to leave everything behind with him. Her reaction when she find out he helped Izzie get rid of his eggs is enough proof that she would have been pissed. The new Alex would have definetly done this to be a better dad than his old man. I would have loved for him to make an apperance or even Izzie to come back and make an appearance kind of like how Burke returned but I dont think him leaving a letter and returing to be a good father is considered ruin character development. Heck I dont like them together and dont like Izzie but him leaving for the reason he did makes sense.
Is anyone else thinking Izzie wasnt good for him? Like Jo may have her flaws but she was the most stable and genuine person for him and she puts he needs first whenever she could and the same for him On the other hand, Izzie was stringing him along for no reason, even when she wanted a rebound he wasnt an option, mentally for him Izzie shouldn’t be with him Just like how Owen and Amelia or Owen and Christina weren’t good for each other because Izzie couldn’t give what Alex needed whilst Jo did even it took some time but even then her situation was different from Izzie cause she was in a dangerous situation. I’m just hurt how Alex went to a girl who clearly didnt deserve him. Not blaming the actor by the way, he needed to go for his well-being, just blaming the writer and producers and directors in not being able to find a good way to find him a better out that didnt destroy seasons of character development down the drain.
Izzie treated him like he wasn't a person, like his life and his feelings didn't matter (or at least didn't matter above her own). The man was traumatized and probably a little emotionally stunted, but he ALWAYS showed up for the people he loved, even when he was a kid. He deserved better than yet another person who never put him first.
Yup totally agree!! It would have been better to kill off his character so that he could at least be remembered as the awesome man he became... the way they did it... Jo didn’t deserve that .. Mer Bailey and Weber ... it was just sad... that these characters will remember him as ditching out on his life with them... such a plot hole... I mean think about Meredith’s kids Alex was an important person for them and now just like that gone... yup... disappointing
If izzie hadn't had their kids I don't think he would have gone, it was a "good" bad way to let him go, because he didn't want his children to grow up without him, I don't see why he had to leave though
This is bullshit. Izzie was the only one who gave Alex the time of day early one. She was the one who poured years into developing a friendship and relationship with him. He cheated on her and pushed her away which is when she moved on. She wasn’t stringing him along. That’s just straight lies. They should open up his story again! Make him have schizophrenia, and before becoming full on nuts he made does letters that are lies so that he does not become a burden to anyone, because fuck Izzie there's no reason to return to that bitch that left him.
season 1 alex vs. when mer could hear him for the first time after being attacked so incredibly different and the character growth was absolutely amazing. shonda, you did him dirty with that fucking disgrace of an exit. Should've killed him off if he needed to leave.

Shonda would have *never* done that. She knew her character well and she knew he'd never leave Meredith. It was kriata vernoff who ruined one of shonda's best characters. But i don't care because to me, whatever krista writes is nonsense. I only accept the episodes under shonda because she's the one who created the show and krista is clearly incompetent and doesn't know even her main characters properly.
Maybe this is just me but I hated him at first because of how he treated the nurses and acted so misogynistic. But it soon became clear that he had so much potential, and I began to like him more and more. He had so much growth and character development it was amazing to watch. Can’t believe they threw all of that away.

Alex was always my favorite, I think I connected with him the most cuz he's a wrestler, and he's hard on the outside but a big softie inside. Thanks for making these edits pink I miss some of these moments if i watch greys to fall asleep so i wont see them till i restart, keep up the good work :)
y’all are mentioning how you didn’t like how he left but i cried it was so sad watching all the memories between him and everyone.. i also loved how his character developed and i felt like him getting to see his kids was great
I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t hate the way he left. It was clear he always felt something special for Izzie and yes he did love Jo but he didn’t get over Izzie, he sorta pushed the feelings away like he usually does and genuinely fell in love with Jo. Then, when he finally speaks to her again years later AND he finds out he has children, all his feelings he pushed down about Izzie came rushing back and they were amplified bc of the children. He definitely loved Jo but Izzie was always the one he wanted
Alex’s face when he opens the trailer to the bear is so hilarious. Can’t even count the amount of times I’ve watched that clip on RU-vid. It’s my profile picture on all of my social media 😂 Alex did SO many funny things. He made Greys so hilarious. And then he went and broke our hearts 😢
To me it was always very clear that when Chambers would leave the show, they'd write him to end up with Izzie. I'm glad they didn't kill him off, it gives him a chance to visit the show if needed.
I hate All the people saying he would’ve never left jo just because izzie had kids. He 100% would drop everything for his kids. This is the guy who started off wanting to go into plastics and then became an amazing peds surgeon. And he loved and cared about every single one of his patients and did everything he could to make sure they were okay and if he think he wasn’t about to drop everything for HIS children then you are dead wrong. Alex wanted everything he never got growing up for those kids including 2 good parents, he would never leave izzie knowing she has his kids. Do I hate that he left with a letter yes absolutely but he would definitely leave to be there for those kids and be the father he never got
gosh I miss alex so much, but deep down I always knew he loved Izzie and that he would always love her even if he loved Jo to. It's just sad bc he did what meredith did like he just left and he was the one trying to get her to come back, but at least when Alex left he gave Jo everything bc she deserved everything and like he wrote everyone goodbye notes. Yes he left for good reasons, but idk he married Jo and then just left for his kids and Izzie.
I don't know what they writers of the show thought they were doing by having Alex basically abandon Jo so he can be with Izzie. It makes no sense whatsoever.
