Alex Newell sings, "I Am Changing" from Dreamgirls to close out Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth. Filmed & edited by Shoshana / @bwaySHO June 19, 2022 Times Square
There are less than 5 people in the history of this planet who have ever sang this well. There's Jennifer Holliday, Martha Wash, Aretha Franklin ( in her youth, on Columbia), and Alex Newell. God rarely grants a voice like this.
@@alwaysforeign4342 No, no. Jennifer Holliday. Not Hudson. Jennifer Hudson was just a Jennifer Holliday impersonator- but lacking the vocal power of the real thing. Hudson started on that TV talent contest, and ended up getting the film role in Dreamgirls which was originally created on Broadway by Jennifer Holliday in 1981. My goodness...Hudson isn't awful, but she is nowhere near Holliday.
THIS song isTHEIR story because he LOST himself in the meaning and melody of the song . I cried the FIRST time I watched it and get emotional EVERYTIME i watch it . I think I’m up to 25 times
I have been an Alex Newell fan ever since they competed on the Glee Project and then they were cast on Glee. Alex is a phenomenal performer. That was awesome!!!
EXACTLY ...! I would travel across the country to see Alex starring in Dreamgirls! And....the film version was off, somehow. Beyonce is just kind of a blank space, and Hudson didn't have the emotional depth for it. The film should be redone, with better casting. Alex would be groundbreaking as Effie White. And they need to write a role for Jennifer Holliday, with a new song for her. The world still doesn't have a satisfying Dreamgirls film. Let's try again.
@CraiginOhioUSA I couldn't disagree more about the movie. Beyonce was not the greatest, that's true. But Jennifer was absolutely incredible in the role. She reinvented Effie and won an Oscar for it.
Dam!!!!!!!!! What a VOICE!!!!! I have chills from his voice, never had this feeling before. I never felt like this before, in a great way. Thank you!!!
If you want to bring Glee stars to Broadway: Alex Newell and Amber Riley deserve to be in the revival of DREAMGIRLS in NY! They could alternate the role of Effie White or just be one at a time per season!
THAT song is THEIR STORY!!!!! And you FEEL EVERY NOTE EVERY WORD EVERY AD LIB EVERY GROWL . There were many points during the end where u could See them completely giving INto the song and letting it envelop them . His singing in the end had the same cadence as a preacher testifying ……….this was transcendence . If you yourself aren’t CHANGED after this performance ……I dunno what to tell you . I will NEVER hear this song the same
@@sunsundks3891they are gender non conforming. They aren’t a guy or a gal. I understand this is a concept lost on you because you can’t perceive beyond what you’ve been conditioned to believe but that’s alright, you can do it little guy… just don’t be a dick… come on, it can’t be that hard.
Sheer perfection. The commitment to the lyrics and character is what sets Alex apart from the pack. Beyond technical prowess because honey that’s obvi there. Alex is an Angel sent from heaven to heal and deliver messages from God. Thank you.
This is so confusing when "they" doesn't have to be used. Just say the name. Lol I thought you were referring to a group. I read the comment 3 times before it hit me. There is an unnecessary use of pronouns when the name is available. ❤

@@GatorGirl04 I believe it did have a short revival from June 28, 1987, to November 29, 1987. The original show ran from December 20, 1981, and closed on August 11, 1985.
holy smokes would love to see Alex is either the stage or live-action remake of Hercules as one of the Muses. hope casting directors are thinking outside the box -Alex would slay it
“Let me make you my manager as a singer please Alex Newell Because you always deliver the song how i myself as a artist like to hear it! Inbox me right now and hurry up this is the Idol Winner speaking to you!”
