Please continue to post videos when you can. As a teenager I became a fan of yours but never had much exposer to you other than whatever comic you were working on back then and articles in Wizard magazine. Nowadays with being able to actually hear your thoughts on art/artist past & present has been very enjoyable. Glad to know you're a fan of your industry.

Alex Ross explains what happens with art perfectly! Different artist can draw the same characters people know about differently. Its not like an artist copies another artist and doesn't make it their own. It takes true skill to make the drawing your own. The Fantastic 4 in his artwork has a lot of detail. I love he acknowledges and appreciates Jack Kirby's work from the 1960's.

IF ONLY THE MCU WOULD EMBRACE THIS VISION. BUT THEY WON'T. I just received my copy 2 days ago after pre-ordering and forgetting about it. What a great surprise and rewarding product. I immediately recognized it as a loving tribute to the Stan & Jack (iaka, Jack & Stan) era of "The Fabulous F.F." Alex nailed it here. NAILED it. A perfect way to "realize" Jack's fantastical visions. This is what Reed Richards should look like; a big, bold, square-jawed, leading man. He looks like "Mister Fantastic" and not some Nutty Putty Professor. Alex's presentation of Sue Storm/Richards looks like an Invisible Woman in full bloom; beautiful, sexy, strong and brave. Wotta woman. Ben and Johnny and perfectly characterized and portrayed. Their family dynamic of bickering, tolerating, loving and accepting one another is captured too. "Best F.F. material produced in 15 years" is right (hail RU-vid review). Love the recognition by Alex of Joe Sinnott and the other artists that followed Jack. Everybody loving the Stan/Jack era: Go get your copy now! The F.F. is BACK! Thank you, Alex!

Tremendous job on this book - and quite possibly the best tribute to Jack Kirby’s work that has ever been done. All done,of course, with your own incredible signature flair that is quintessentially still classic Alex Ross. What is really amazing about Kirby’s stuff is that we know that he did it all straight from his head - with no under drawing or roughs. That really is incredible! He just sat there at his old drawing board and drew all of these stunning images right onto the page with a skill and imagination that is really just about unmatched in the history of comic books. Much of what we have seen in The MCU over these last few years came right from him just sitting there with his old number 2 pencil and ancient drawing board. Actors careers, unforgettable movies , and an entire genre of film. All from the work by Jack and Stan. And,of course, while he was doing these great FF stories, he also was doing Thor The Avengers Iron Man The Hulk etc etc in his spare time lol! It is great that you have created this spectacular book that has brought that art and magic from Kirby to a brand new generation.

Thank you for this amazing book Mr. Ross! I bought it today but have to wait to read it as I’m waiting for FF omnibus volume 2 to read the original story yours is connected to. Your comment on reconnecting to original creators makes me want to shout for joy. I read so very little of what’s published today as it doesn’t appeal to me like the older stuff, henceforth I’m buying the omnis of the original runs. My absolute favourite piece you’ve done is the dust jacket for the Green Lantern omnibus vol. 1 by Geoff Johns. It is a masterful piece of art work. I applaud you sir. Again, thank you for your magnificent contributions to a medium that hopefully will find it’s way again. Also, loved your variant cover of the newest Punisher run.

I think a lot of the difference between the 60's Kirbys and today's norms comes from the attitudes towards production values: once the direct market set in and there was a higher quality bar to hit, all the way through the collector boom and transition to digital, the tendency to emphasize a premium, realistic aesthetic in the production of these high-profile books became really strong. But achieving Kirby's feel is definitely more along the lines of finding spontaneity in a simpler aesthetic. I think this approach is a good way to tap into that, especially stripping down the color. That lets the other layers of the art breathe more, even if you add a lot of detail.

I really loved how even using ink and a more vintage color palette the art still looking realistic, other thing that is really impressive for me is how you put horror elements in this F4 story, for example that shadow being that appears in front of johnny storm and Ben Grimm, or the creatures from the negative zone (those ones looks like from a Lovecraft story or even a Giger painting). In anyway, excellent work, your art is like candy for my eyes. 👏

All the positive points around this book are echoed by me. I just got this. My only criticism is I wish the format was even larger. I would spend more on this book if it was 11x17. Seeing you work on the originals that size, it's a shame to shrink the fabulous spreads down to the size we received. Great work. Excellent story. Analogous to modern comic artists realities. Highly recommend

I think Stan and Jack would be honored by what you're doing Alex. This is brilliant work. "This man, this monster" is one of my favorite classic stories and I've always wanted to see a follow up to that plot. Like, who the hell was the scientist and why did the harbor such a grudge against Reed Richards? The aesthetic choice to branch away from the usual style and adapting something close to the original comics medium is very daring and it's so eye-catching. I will definitely pick up a copy of this when I have my payroll. But I would love to see perhaps video tutorials from you on the technique of wash and watercolor. As an artist myself I'm always looking for new ways of approaching art and you've always been one of my inspirations in this field. And I love the origin splashes you've been doing since the one shot DC tabloid sized books you did back in the late 90s. I wanna see one of Spider-Man and the Hulk next.

There is something so fascinating to me about ink illustrations. The way a human mind can take the full color, fully three dimensional world, all of the emotions and body language present in a scene, and distill and abstract it all into just black and white, a series of strokes and lines on paper that somehow capture it all so beautifully, all of the energy and emotion, dimensionality and everything else, all there in just black and white.
