And for you drum nerds out there - if you hadn't already noticed I'm not using my usual Pearl Masters Premium kit. In this video I'm using one of the new Session Studio Classics (Piano Black finish). Sizes are as followed -

This kit is now my 'gigging' set but I wanted to record with it once before leaving it in LA for The Faceless. The Sessions are great drums, both live and in the studio.
We'll be going back out in September with Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, & The Safety Fire. Should be a fun time! I hope to see some of you out there.

"Almost definitely".... Sorry friend, but you're pretty off here. The only thing triggered in this video is the kick drum, and the trigger is mixed substantially lower than the natural kick mic. So even that is almost very natural. Triggering everything whack.

0:51 is just the most ridiculous display of technique, a right-handed one-footed blast with the left foot, hitting accents with the right hand and opening the hats with the right foot to match. Those kind of dynamics are hard enough with your dominant limbs, FFS Alex

Yeah. That was sick. You got it right. I tried that 0:51 in a very and slowest motion I could but I found it very hard to do. It was like playing with an endless twist..

I think his approach has much to do with endurance for blasting. By having it ambidextrously, he can switch up and spread out the load, so to speak. I also really like how it spreads the sound from the left to right in the mix.

I would think, the mind blowing rhythms he does and blast beats. He probably does a few curls to get his blood pumping and the muscles warmed up. He'd prob have a hard time doing all the fast stuff with cold muscles

Not quite: there are lots of different blast beat variations. The traditional blast is a single stroke roll with the hands and your bass drum plays at the same time as whatever cymbal you're hitting. Playing the kick, snare and cymbal in unison is a hammer blast.

Most technical guys on guitar ,drums or whatever instrument have developed all their technical skills before the age of 20.This is what happened to me and this is what i have heard from interviews.You can always develop after that but most of the techniques as a foundation you already have.Of course if you play like most guys who are good on their instruments ,7-8 hours per day.If you play 1-2 hours per day chances are you are not gonna develop before 20.

Oh dang, sorry then! To elaborate, I was mostly figuring the kick was triggered (Not the toms and snare), it's fairly standard in extreme metal to do as much (I've spent a couple of years on an extreme drumming forum, I know how these things work, as much as that comment might seem ignorant). Definitely cool that you go for a more natural sound though, a lot of drummers don't. Sorry for that again, and love your stuff :)

Hey mate I know you get a BAZILLIAN requests and questions but how do you fit your right hi hat pedal in there? Does it just have no stand and its clamped in or something? Also I request you cover SOUL BURN by meshuggah, has a great drum grove solo section id love to see your interperatation of, and any song from death on the sound of perceverance album, richard christie is a beast, one of my favorite drummers!
