Agree so much. Although I make room for new “music”, nothing touches the real music! So you’re right, pretty much a waste of time. I’m in a funk groove, gimmes “Hair” Larry Graham and Tower of Power “Eaht is Hip”. Killer! That’s music. Van Halen 6 pack…that’s much, Zep, cream, ACDC and many many more….thats music to me. Enjoy all the metal “core’s” and Taylor Swift! Lmao ❤😂
Music doesn't care about your feelings. It will be here long after we're both long gone from this planet. Spend what time you have left enjoying life instead of being a whiney, bitter, miserable person.
@@doctorkayak haha… that’s funny. Now, back in 2007, Alex DID have a myspace account for a few months. It was real low key and not many people knew it existed, too. It was definitely him. I know this because Valarie’s verified account wound post things to it every few days… just those GIFs that say “have a nice day”, and shit like that But he would lost to it about every week. One in particular that I remember was him asking “So… what does everyone think of the new Van Halen shows?” And a handful of people left feedback He had some great shots of his drums from then as well. Shots that I never seen anywhere else since that account
Whatever Alex Vanhalen wants to talk about in his new book I can't wait to hear it because he and his brother were and will be forever be a epic part of history ...
So epic, in fact, that before Pantera would play Dimebag and is brother would say to each other, "Van Halen??" "Van FUCKIN' Halen," before every show. Lol.
Come on Steve. I was excited to hear about what Alex had to say! You do realize that's how the title of this post sounds! Change the title to: "I heard that Alex Van Halen is writing a book-do you folks have any idea what it's about?" No wonder you have over 120 views with zero comments!
Steve’s title is called a “tease”. It did the job…I clicked, I got informed that there’s a book by Alex coming out….and I got to hear a new quote from Alex. Oh, I also Subscribed. Oh, and I commented. Oh, thanks Steve for the video!
I’ve thought all along that he was done for good and tries not to think about it. Guaranteed, he has moments where he looks back on it all and thinks “shit… what could we have done differently, or better?” With all the drama and controversy and suspicions that surrounded them over the years- most of it because of making bad decisions that made no sense and getting mixed up with the wrong people… for him to attempt carrying on would only mean asking for more of the same drama and controversy that’s plagued him making the experience very unpleasant at times
@@TheVIC-vo6yi these people that get all radical screaming REUNION!!! Even they know it’s over, no matter which group loses someone. The thing about that is they can’t accept the reality that’s taking place before them… To accept that reality… this also means to accept the reality of their own aging. To accept the fact that they are now “old” and that their glory days of rolling in their Firebird with the T tops off and mullet flapping in the wind like a mudflap on a tractor trailer while listening to 1984 and Fair Warning… they die right along with Ed, or Neil Peart and RUSH… or whoever. And that IS frightening, as it would be for anyone I’m about to turn 46. Ever since my mother passed in February 2020 just 1 month after Neil Peart did, then quickly followed by all the others with Ed included… time has really began to speed up. I feel one day closer to death each day than ever before. And it is fucking SCARY
@@TheVIC-vo6yi he just wants to forget it all ever happened. That means literally erasing everything from his life that resonates of the band… which is sad to think that could be happening. I can’t help but to get the impression that he resents every moment of the band One thing about Alex is while he seems like a cool guy who loves a good joke and loves to laugh… I also see someone who underneath all of that is a tough customer. A guy who, if you cross him, will seek out your ruination. He doesn’t look like something straight out of SCARFACE for no reason 😆 it’s in his DNA
I was always more a “I look like a fish… what’s all this business?” kind of person… and the fact that from 1981 to 1984, Alex totally looked like something straight out of SCARFACE… one of Tony’s associates
Alex and Eddie weren't just two brothers, best friends, or musicians, they were one. With the loss of EVH I'm sure without a doubt it took the life out of Alex. He deserves peace as much as I would love to hear him play one more time.
@@christophermoffett3762 that possibility is actually not an exaggeration, nor is it out of character. It’s definitely not a “trolling” comment, neither… I’ve seen this myself where a spouse in a 30 plus year marriage suddenly becomes terminally ill, and then dies a few months later. What happens quite often is the surviving spouse ends up terminally ill within the first 12 months after the death of the one I’ve seen this on a few occasions in my time. This also happens with the loss of a child. Neil Peart’s wife is a prime example. She became inexplicably ill with a cancer just a few months after they lost their 19 year old daughter in a vehicular accident. They say the cancer was the result of her being so upset and not being able to get over the loss … basically died of a broken heart So yeah, your assumption is very much a possibility that could plague him at any time without warning
Interesting facts: Alex Van Halen's first of two sons, Aric Van Halen, was born October 6, 1989; Aric's mother was Van Halen's then-wife, Kelly Carter, whom he divorced in August 1996 after 13 years of marriage. Van Halen married his current wife, Stine Schyberg, in 2000. She is the mother of his son Malcolm Van Halen. Alex Van Halen is an ordained minister. It's very interesting that Aric Van Halen was born on October 06, 1989 34 years prior to the day of his Uncle Eddie's passing on October 06, 2020. Much love to the Van Halen family. Thank you for the great music and the many fond memories. - JC
'Aric Van Halen was born on October 06, 1989 34 years prior to the day of his Uncle Eddie's passing on October 06, 2020.' You make an important point here. Math is hard.
@@lpointmpoint3736 It's 34 years to the day. My point here is that October 06 is that day, not the math or the number of years in between. You would think that anyone interested in facts about a subject that's important to them would be appreciative. The world has changed and not for the better.
Alex IS very underrated. I personally consider him in the highest regards amongst bad ass drummers. He is a big influence on my dunning. Best wishes of peace to ya Alex. Van Halen for ever. 🤘😌
I saw Van Halen in concert in 1978, 1981, and 1984. After that I lost interest (It is germane to point out I was living overseas from 3/86 to 4/92). At this point I am so sick of hearing about VH, mostly from Sammy who has a habit of talking out of both sides of his mouth. Not only with Van Halen but with Ronnie Montrose as well. He organized a tribute concert for him to (Montrose died in 2012). I will not be reading this book. I think it will set the record straight with some aspects of the dynamics within the band during the period of all 3 lead singers but mostly the book will be full of a lot “fluff”. The only person I would be interested in hearing from, is the former band member who has not spoken about the band and probably never will; that would be Mr. Michael Anthony. Michael has done many fund raising concerts without Sammy. One of these events he was the bass player for another ultimate guitar god Jeff Beck. The middle of last year Anthony was asked a 2 part question: who did he think was better EVH or Jeff Beck; and which one did he like playing with more? Michael just did not answer the question. He said they are both dead and millions miss them both including me. He keep’s everything in his vault. He does not want to cause any problems for anyone! I have a lot of respect for him for that…
I can feel for Alex...I lost my brother 3 weeks after his 51 birthday september 2023 after a 12 month battle with kidney cancer, diagnosed way too late (after having back pain for months). Finally a pleural effusion and an agressive lung infection, they couldn't control, led to his death. It was scary to see how fast things went downhill....like Ed ....enjoy your life Alex and ignore this Sammy Hagar/Satriani BS
I've been hitting the skins for 51 years . I can't hold a candle to Alex. Eddie Was the best! Losing a brother under ANY circumstances is something we need to respect and be patient with. RIP EVH!
I hope that they don’t do a tribute because they have become clown shows for the rock Muzak establishment. I’d certainly be interested in reading the book and respect Alex - he is one of the greatest drummers ever!
@@katw01 Mike didn't say the word mistreated but told what he was ask to give up in an interview i saw. It's also in Sammy Hagar's book he wrote. Each member of the band plus the manager got 20% which was an even share. After the smoke settled Mike ended up with about 13%.In the 2004 tour he had to give up all his rights to anything Van Halen. Mike was paid as a regular employee but he didn't care because Mike just wanted to play with the band again. Mike will never talk bad about anyone in the band. Mike has too much class. But yes in my words Mike was mistreated but that's just me. Take care and have a nice day.
I agree. During an MTV interview a loooong time ago Eddie was asked about all the accolades that went his way. He thought for a couple of seconds and said "Yeah, it's nice to hear that, but part of me say's "But I'm just a punk assed kid who plays the guitar". That's EVH!!!! HUMBLE!!!!!
He kept the funeral arrangements very quiet and personal with just family . No big press release with pictures or even open to the public . That's the way the brothers were . Sam was a real prick with his book of lies and half truths . Then the narcissist ahole brags about more lies saying they made up because Ed WAS dying . And he said his crap implying it's all true and they're best friends again even though truthfully Al never forgave Captain Candyass . Then Al has an idea to do a little tribute for his brother with maybe Dave and some other people at his choice (other than Candyass and Mike ) . It went public and Candyass wanted in on the idea and BOTH Dave and Al dropped the idea . Now remember , who lied saying that the Halen brothers were only in the business for the money ? Who's doing some FAKE cash-grab rip-off elevator music version tribute to Ed ? Not Al .
@@jimmyz2098 OK for starters he quit then he said he was fired . He blamed Ray Daniels causing friction in the band and that wasn't it . He said Van Halen sold more albums with him than with Dave , also not true . Sure more albums went to number one maybe . But then the sales would peter out quicker . Dave sold more albums than Scammy . And again since Scammy won't shut up about it , Scammy quit .
@@BruceStephan How do you know what Sammy lied about? Or Dave for that matter? Are you a VH insider hiding behind the anonymity of the internet? Your opinion is no better than anyone else's.
I always noticed Alex Van Halen was always the quiet one, and now he releases a book and I'm looking forward to hear his thoughts and feelings about the band, and the death of Eddie. I have two brothers and a sister and I would be very upset and hurt if anything ever happened to any of them! So God Bless you Alex Van Halen! 🙏
That’s great to hear! One thing about Alex Van Halen, he can be quite frank and pretty brutal about the truth in terms of everything regarding Vanhalen and Eddie. I recently happened to discover an old interview online of the band I’d never heard before (it’s in audio), when the album “for unlawful carnal knowledge” first came out, right after they’d done the infamous 1991 free show in Dallas,Texas (55,000 rabid fans were in attendance - it’s on RU-vid) and Alex was the first one to respond to questioning from the interviewer. He was so straightforward…no BS! And as a long time huge fan of VH (since 1980), I appreciate straight shooters like Alex. So his book, I’m certainly sure that it’ll be somewhat explosive, but he’ll still be somewhat private about other things.
@garyz0611, What makes up think Alex was the " true leader " of VH ? 1st off, Alex was a " Yesman " 2 Eddie. He was never the ' lead " speaker in interviews. It was either Dave, Eddie or both of them. Did Alex chime in ? Yes, but never a " leader " in any sense
If you read the book, running with the devil, which is by Noel Monk, who was the manager of Van Halen from 1978 to 1985 he states specifically Al was in complete control of the band, every facet of financial and everything…. do you also know that Malcolm Young from AC/DC he was the leader of that band but was the most silent like Alex…
@garyz0611, U got me. How many people would admit they're wrong ? I'm not nor have I ever been a " BIG " reader. I'm more of a TV documentary person. So, if U read this book & it says that Alex was " leader " I believe U. Thanks 4 enlightening me 👍. Yes, I did know that Angus is the leader of AC / DC
One of the most special things about Ed's playing was his sense of time. In the Dave era, songs like I'm the One and Hot for Teacher had intense shuffles/swing feels. I can't help but think that the brothers were so locked into each other that Alex was a larger contributor to Ed's success than we give him credit for being. But, I'd like to know if they got their great sense of time and feel from their father, playing his style of music (a-la Big Bad Bill), or what other things that we don't commonly know contributed to that impeccable sense of rhythm.
Just too hear him speak from his heart about life, his and Eddie's,and how he is doing.god bless you brother Alex Van Halen, and keep preaching the good words.i been there from the start in west la. Chasing you guys from house too house, party, too party,it was Grand!!!total barge sessions, climbing people roof's to see Mammoth!!!! Battle of the bands, you guys kicked butt in rock and roll.thanks for the Ride.
I have No Questions for Alex! Everything’s Been Brought Out Already! Alex is one of the Best Drummers of the Century. His Volume of work speaks for itself!
the title tends to read as if Alex will be speaking in the video. Hes Breaking his silence. Where, he isnt breaking it today or right now . Had the title said "AVH will be finally Breaking his silence." people wouldnt expect to hear AVH talking.
I am sure it has been difficult for Alec to carry on without Eddie, his best friend, brother, band member! I want to hear about the early days!! I can't wait to read this book!
I’ve read Sammy’s book, RED, I’ve read Eruption and I’ve read Noel Monk’s book. I’m curious what Alex has to say. What’s his take on making Michael Anthony a hired hand; cut out of the royalties, taking Noel to the accountant to look for any misuse of band revenue and ultimately firing Noel who was on a month to month contract for his entire time as band manager. That being said, I wonder if any of it will be written about.
A dollar per album. Yeah, that's about how PATHETIC THIS BUSINESS IS or was. It was absurd. 90% of musicians never made a cent from this lunacy called the music business. (I don't count myself amongst them. It's not relevant to me) The public really did treat them as if they were singing for their supper. They could gather enough suppers to put together and they made that seem like they were getting rich but in reality it was a tiny fraction of what it should have been. People consumed the who for multiple decades and never paid them a cent. AC/DC had to leave the pubs to survive by playing at high schools. This business exists despite the fact that there was NO PLACE FOR this business to exist. But now it's all fractured into a zillion places. In a couple of years time it's dinosaur lunacy 🦕
A professional musician know best who to play with , when and why ... being a session and touring drummer for the 42 years ... I get very picky now days if is even worth getting the gig or not ... I'm assuming Alex is at the same place !
I can’t say for sure, but I think Al is probably a straight shooter and will give us the truth about everything! Without Ed, Van Halen, the band as we knew it is over. I don’t blame him for having zero interest in the Sammy tribute. He’s still in mourning for his brother. They came to the US as children with nothing and could barely speak English. In October 2020 I visited the modest Los Lunas home in Pasadena so I could clearly see their humble beginnings. I even filmed a little video that’s on my YT page. I’ll admit to being lazy about reading but I will scour this book like you wouldn’t believe. I can’t wait!
I LOVE AVH! One of the most underrated drummers in rock and roll! I’d love to hear about how playing with his brother influenced his style and deeper knowledge of his musicianship. Thanks!
Interesting conversations attract interesting people *and ...conversations.* Echo-chambers silence all but the most holy, whom eventually self-suffocate from the lack of dialogue. In YOUR CASE; silence is golden, duct tape is silver.
Alex and Edward Van Halen paved the way for so many musicians no joke David Roth just screamed the word's to different songs at the time that was in last time I was fortunate to see the van halen brother's and son with Sammy LA California they were so tight and in sinc killer show Eddie is to much non stop riffs but you're son professional it's incredible how the DNA works Alex bosifos mode he bad brutal drummer lm 65 and still jamming them brought awesome 💯 incredible memories
I always admired Alex. He was a great drummer, but lived in the shadow of his little brother, the G.O.A.T. But, he never seemed to envy. That is a class act. I look forward to hearing his story.
Al never stood in the shadow of Ed because he is one of the best drummers on the planet. He used to talk a lot to journalists in the old days, but somewhere he has lost his openess along the way. There has never been any animosity between the brothers because they were each others greatest fans: their bond was unique 😊
It is of such class and cool to admire each others different talent and respect one another as brothers , they Loved n needed each other as this is a take no prisoners cut throat racket and they knew it after doing 2albums and a million bucks in debt !
He’s one of the best rock drummers of all time and seems to fly under the radar. Probably because that’s the way he wanted it. Too bad, he would have been awesome in the drum clinic and educational circuit. He has come up with some of the most creative drum parts of all time.
Loosing EVH was the biggest hurtful loss ever in music 💔. Was around him and the band back in the club days, so it’s been very hurtful losing such a talented, great and humble guy. 💔
Great drummer, his sound in concert is amazing!! Both versions were great,my hope is that they officially release a few concerts from the early days with dave and Sammy
AVH-One of the greatest drummers of the Rock Era period. Over the years the only time I heard him speak was basically supporting his brother, Eddie. I am torqued to hear AVH's take on things.
Hell yeah I want to hear from Alex! I preordered his book. I read Van Halen Rising, Running With the Devil, Eruption, Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga, Sammy’s book, Ted Templan’s book…if it’s Van Halen related, I’ll read it! Couldn’t find Dave’s book, though. Still looking.
Hey Steve, I'm a fan that followed VH after recovering from the shock and awe of the first album!! Eddies playing was just mind blowing and he created a new level to being a Guitar God!!! But, after that, I followed them casually for the most part. I thought Dave turned into a screeching asshole at the end of his run as lead singer. He sucked!!! Sammy was refreshing!! He could fucking sing on time and in key!! Holy shit!! How amazing was that!!! :-) Was seriously bummed like we all were at the news of Eddies death. A 61 year old guy who cried when I heard the news. I would like nothing more than the TRUTH from Al's point of view. From soup to nuts as they say. That's all I really want.....Can't wait to read it. Have a good one!! Bryan
I have been a VH fan since I was 12 years old and have been fortunate enough to see them live 4 times. Twice with Dave and twice with Sammy. I was devastated when Eddie passed and I am looking forward to Alex' book. Long live VH ❤
I am proud to say that I watched him and his brother perform live in both eras. I respect him for being a level headed professional who respects and cares for us the people who supported his work. Even Jazz Masters know that Alex is way more talented than what regular non musician listeners think. Unique, distinctive sound and technique
Dave said a lot of shit about the band , he was forgiven. Sammy said some truths, which we all knew already. Sammy is not forgiven. I wonder what else went on between Sammy and Alex that Alex no Longer wants anything to do with him. Also Wolfgang is showing some disrespect too to Sammy so something is up.....fill us in. I can't wait to read the Book . I like all the Guys, and Van Halen was the Best !! We miss you Eddie ! I also can't wait to see Wolfgangs Behind the music doc. He Calls Hagar , ' That Singer '. Wow, it should be interesting.
I want Alex to do whatever he wants to be happy and content.. he probably is not ready or would want to get to performing. With any of. Those. Dudes. Just wan t o thank Alex for inspiration to play & performed for me. . I miss your brother too. I hope Mr Alex is doing fine.. I love Van Halen music. . And love M r.alex Van Halen. Thanks for all the good times . Skeeterp
I am looking forward to his audio book and hope he narrates it. I understand him staying quiet and healing from such a tragic loss of his brother. We Love You Alex and prayers to you and your family and Wolfie!
Alex should hook back up with Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar with GEORGE LYNCH at the helm!!! It will sell out around the globe... Pete Woodroffe Music UK
There's no motivation to record, streaming has crucified musicians financially. I'll never understand why they chose to permanently replace DLR w Sammy? Yes I'll buy the book.
I can't wait to read Alan's take on the Van Halen story. I wonder if he preferred the exciting early days with Darren Leigh Roth, or the stadium hopping, chart-topping era with Steve Hogarth, the ex lead singer of Foreigner, whose arrival scored the band their first #1 album, 'Powerslave'. ::This comment was auto-generated by Macrotech A.I. As a Soft Machine fan,40 yrs ago one of the earliest Albums I got into was as Van Halen 2(Awesome Lp).25 yrs ago i got into Soft Machine, and one of their latter Lps 1975 Bundles.Which had Allan Holdsworth who was Eddie's Guitar influence, well Bundles was very Similiar to Van Halen 2.Here'a a Question for Alex, did him and Eddie own a copy of Bundles. And was it one of the Lps that influence Van Halen?
He's the smart one, just a memoir to book end his Amazing life. No selling his Drums or other VH paraphernalia, no tours with a cover band, no need to make personal appearances to keep income coming in. I'd like to hear about the other bands the toured with but it sounds like most of this generation (mid to late 70's) did not even get to stick around to see the band they were opening for, exit stage left and to the bus.
Funny, other than a terrible pic on your thumbnail photo and you yammering on, I didn't seem to hear "Alex Van Halen Break His Silence". Sounded more like you "Breaking Wind". CLICKBAIT to get clicks much? Yeah, I don't do that on my channel...
So musicians now have to actually "work" to make their monies? Well if successful, they STILL end up millionaires and make more money than over 90% of the population... Not a bad gig (no pun intended).... When I design, get approval, and build a home, I get paid for that... ONE TIME... I don.t get "residuals" off of my work.... and unless that structure burns or blows up, or a tornado or whatever happens, that home is useful in raising families and or being lived in for the next 100/150, who knows how many years of actual usefulness my creation will be around... I'm just not sure why I'm supposed to have empathy and sympathy for musicians having to actually go out and earn their monies... Not sure what is supposed to make them better than ME when it comes to "residuals" and "earning" their monies... Why shouldn't I get yearly residuals just like them? And MY creations actually have a useful purpose/need besides recreation and entertainment... yet I get paid once and that's it.. Do I want residuals? NO.... but don't expect ME to think musicians and song writers shouldn't have to go out and EARN their monies.... Well my music/songs get played all over the Nation many times a day, so I should get paid for that.... Really?... Really? MY creations have families living in them 24/7 365 days a year for generations... Future generations are created withIN MY creations... MY creations shelter humanity from the elements, yet provide places of comfort during life's most happy of times as well as those most trying of times... So, hit the road if that's the only thing you can do for a living....
Hello Alex ... My name is Keith ,l'm writtlng from Tallahassee. FL. from what I understand you and I are very close in age. And l think we might have started drumming around the same time late sixties early 70's. and we share many of same influences. Baker, ward,Bonham, Mitchell etc.(if that's not enough).. However I've always heard alot of the be bop swing element in just about all of your style of rock playing, Because of you and Ed studieing classic piano and a combination of alot of influence from your dad....? Thanks Keith...
Who else waited the entire Video waiting for Alex to talk? Here is the title of the Video . . . "Alex Van Halen Finally Breaks His Silence!" Your wrong buddy, Alex is STILL Silent!
I ha e been a Van Halen fan since1981. I'm 56 now. It's all I listened to in the 1980s in Queens NYC. I just want Alex to tell the truth. Noel monk and Ted templman had some good stuff. I don't want the same old sqieky clean story. Did they regret not getting back with Dave in 1997, after those 2 great songs came out on greatest hits album. That was fucked up. They should've got back together then instead of Cherone....
I always thought Alex was a monster back there on the kit, and one of the greatest rock drummers to ever live. I HATE the term under-rated... because it is so over-used now. But I guess call it whatever you want. I guess in a lot of ways... the man * was * over-rated. He was an incredible drummer, and musician, for that matter. He never seems to show up on any Top-20 lists or whatever. Not a lot of guys talk about AVH in that regard. I guess it doesn't matter. If you know... you know. But still. Amazing. And I think some of the lack of press has to do with being "Edward Van Halen's Brother." LOL It's like yeah... and then there's Alex. Yep. Unbelievable drummer. Yes I'm mega excited. And I just want to hear whatever Alex wants to say. I'd love to hear some great stories too. I'd like to hear about some of the music - both eras. Some of the production aspects of those unbelievable records we got. Templeman and Don Landee. Growing up. Growing up in Rock. Touring. Etc.
Alex Van Halen, are you ALSO going to respect American Steel and The Good Year Blimp? Also, who moans and groans the best? And who is the sexiest Van Halen musician? Since you are now speaking, I wish to know your personal opinion. Debbie Cox.
