ALEXANDER! Asmongold First RAID of FFXIV: Heavensward 

Asmon has trouble reading 80% of the text in this game, but the fucking goblin-speak he gets it right immediately.

I never thought I'd see the day Asmon would not only play FFXIV, but read the goblin's dialogue in proper gobbytongue. This truly is the most bizzare timeline.

For anyone wondering about Red Mages and Raises. Red Mage cannot raise (lvl 64 skill) until they hit Stormblood. Then they become rez bots. :D Summoner can though.

Man, that music is fucking sick. So industrial, I'd believe ya if you told me they had some 90s Euro metal band make it for them, and it fits the theme of the raid perfectly. The variety of genres that this game uses is phenomenal. Edit: Just remembered who this song really reminds me of, Mr.Kitty. Amazing DJ that I highly recommend if you like the music in this raid.

For anyone curious, everything Asmon has streamed so far IS INCLUDED in the free trial.

Chat had the right idea about coil being savage, when coil first came out they were the hardest content in the game and not many were able to complete them. During 2nd coil some people wanted more of a challenge and square was experimenting with raids so they released savage for the titles as something optional for the hardcore raiders to do until final coil. When final coil came out those who did savage were of the first few to clear final and thought it was easier but that's just because they had been clearing savage leading up to it. By time heavenward came out square figured out how to make a normal raid for those who wanted to experience the story and then savage tier for the ones that wanted the challenge and since then it's been the way raiding has been. So yes coils were the savage difficulty for it's time but compared to the newer savage raids it isn't as hard.

Seeing him pull the hand into the middle after the first raidwide knockback made me smile, bro I haven’t had a single tank ever do that for this fight, it speaks to how much content and experience Asmon has despite not playing FFXIV but thru WOW with raid fights. It’s satisfying to watch someone who makes the fight slightly easier (despite his three vuln stacks lol)

For those who don't know: In difference to Realm Reborn, this in the video is the "normal" Mode balanced for casual players. This got introduced because of much complains about the coils were gating an important part of lore. The real raid is to find in the savages here. For Alexander we have the biggest difference in savages of the entire game. The first Alexander "Gordias" savage was designed around heavy DPS checks. Today you wont be able to feel this anymore, even on miniLvl, because of the class changes they have done over the time. Back in time, "Pepsiman" was the one most raid groups struggled to overcome the DPS check of the add phase. Because of complains in the forum the second one "Midas" savage was designed around mechanics and on point healing instead of heavy DPS checks. As far I remember, the world wide clear rate was at 1,4% when the next raid tier got released. The final boss of Midas was the first final raid boss ever in this game, that got nerfs after the tier was over. The healing at the final boss was so tight, that the combo of AST+WHM was in these days "the real savage". At the end of this tier fflogs counted 11 groups worldwide (my one included), that finished Brutalus with that combo. After much complaining about the difficulty (in the forum the voices were loud about Alexander kills the raid community) the third one "Creator" savage was the first savage, that got heavily toned down in difficulty and its difficulty got the base for future savages. To fill that gap for HC players that this last change created, for Stormblood the Ultimate series got announced.

Brute justice theme is the best alexander raid music and im full aware that Exponential entropy exist and also rise. Brute justice is just maximum

I still remember doing the first tier of Alex the day it released. I was playing MCH at the time, which was in a really rough spot and a fellow FC mate I teamed up with was worried I wouldn't be able to hold my own. Ended up topping the DPS in the first fight, second in the second fight, then top for the last two. It made him feel better about MCH being able to perform.

I've been looking forward to a new spree of min-ilvl raids and trials ever since he finished coils! Glad to see him finally able to tackle these and ever glad to see him just having fun in general.

I cannot tell you how hard I fucking laughed at the Manipulator fight holy shit. Forgetting tank stance. Chat frantically screaming about tank stance for a good minute. The raw betrayal of Asmon realizing tank stance was off, asking why chat didn't tell him. Sad pepes everywhere. Dead healers. Level 60 RDM asked to raise. Using a base level potion at level 60, with negligible effects and a longass cooldown before more healing supplies are allowed. Party extinct except Asmon and Sea Lion. Remembering fanart of Sea Lion interpreted very literally in armor, flippers and all, as Asmon cries out "IT'S JUST YOU AND ME SEA LION." Just imagining the literal face of a sea lion with the understanding that all their friends are dead. Honestly if wipe's gonna happen, might as well be silly with it.

The design of alexander is always crazy! In one ff he destroys like a whole city with one laser and leaves a crater big as hell

Since I didn't see this while scrolling through the comments, the mechanic that took out the healers on the Manipulator fight, Judgement Nisi, gives them a debuff where they need to spread out. They get too close to each other, they die. Not from damage, an outright insta-kill. Always seems to get people these days, even the vets.

waiting for extremes/savages/whatevertheycallit, the hard modes, for all the HW fights 13:27 I felt this at 50, 60, 70, and 80 for basically all the classes.

In case someone wonders about cutscenes and such: You only have to watch them one time, can be even skipped first time. You have option in char config that auto-skips cutscenes youve already seen. So no need to worry you are watching cutscenes every raid (still giving me frustrations to think about "WE NAMED HIM.." from ICC). And as seen on video, story is played outside raid

7:25 YES, because you really are overgeared this time. The level of which the normal modes were made for is far lower than it allows. Unlike the Gordias savage, normal Gordias is actually well balanced, but ONLY for the gear level available at the time. Granted it'll still be inherently easier than it was back then because everyone's much stronger than they ever could be in Heavensward, especially the tanks and healers whom suffered damage penalties and low potencies.

I cant wait for him to reach brute justice this may be the very raid that seals the nail on the coffin for wow

There is always confusion in his chat with Savage raids. In 2.0 There was no multiple versions of the raid. There was one difficulty. Later toward the end of 2.x raiders were complaining that there was nothing to do after their Monday raid day. So SE added a super mode and called it "Savage". But in 3.0 Heavenward they changed up how they did raids so casual players could still enjoy raid story. And they called the ACTUAL real raid mode "Savage". So when Asmon talks about how these fights were easier than Coil, there is a bit of confusion. He thinks Coil Savage and Alex Savage are the same tier, when they are not. Regular Coil, and Alex Savage are the same tier. Regular Alex is an easy mode for Story. Coil Savage is a super mode that is a difficulty ABOVE Alex Savage but below Ultimates. In fact the original Alex raid was harder than the Coil raid. But SE nerfed it, because it was CRUSHING Raid statics. They later apologized for going overboard. But his chat doesn't know that. So they freak tf out when people in his chat say "Coil IS Savage difficulty" and declare it "mentor chat" that doesn't know what it's talking about. But his chat is the one that doesn't know, because they simply see "Coil Savage" and do not understand what it is because the name is confusing them.

The normal ones, the only way you'd really get a challenge out of them is by doing them with a group of 7 others who haven't done the fights a million times over and using the minimum ilvl options. But if you did manage to find 7 other first timers, you could get the full Alexander raiding experience from when they were new content.

Holy shit i forgot how badly AS3 savage was nerfed, and with the buffed jobs (and new ones since then) the fight is no problem to clear for even medium groups now. I remember when this fight was actually hard.

We had in Alexander Savage 15k life as melee dps As5 i mean with i lv.180/190/200 stuff i remember i enter with the ravana spear, this guys have double the amount of life, and more dps and defense of course. Cant wait untill Asmogold will catch up some day and have fun with his people in day one raid but untill that he can stay happy to have a story and content to finish.

And to think, Koji Fox does the vocals for these songs

Asmon, word of warning for savage: gordias savage was tuned really badly back in the day. So many people stopped raiding because of it. Shouldn't be too bad now though

At Burden of the Father Healers should've spread more at Judgement Nist and have nobody get to them to get that stack, 1st time they literally killed each other cause of Judgement stacks debuff, but good 2nd time kill
