Singer Alexander James McLean, also known as “AJ” from the Backstreet Boys, joins New York Living to discuss his new single, touring with Joey Fatone from NSYNC, and his boy band days in the early 2000s.
Ugh. I hate it when they say, "One of the most successful" NO MA'AM. The Backstreet Boys ARE the most successful "boyband" in the history of pop music. Period.
That's true but there would be no backstreet boys without New Kids on the block starting the boy band scene in entertainment that's what she was referring to.
@@LuckQueen_1981 - That is completely irrelevant to anything. BSB is more successful than NKOTB... and any other "boyband" to date. Regardless of who came first.. I take the "one of" comment as not paying BSB their due diligence of their success. That is how I take it. I take it offensively tbh, and I'm sure other fans in the #BSBArmy do too! BSB worked hard for that title! ... and fans worked hard to put them there! BUUUT. So often, its overlooked or glossed over so as not to offend the other fandoms or for whatever other reason. Its not cool. Give BSB their credit. They might have been put together as "carbon copies" of NKOTB, but they went on and still go on .. to surpass them, and everyone else in sales, records, awards, and longevity. They should be respected and given their proper titles.
I'm 35 and a guy. I can unreservedly say that I'm a BSB fan for maaany many years, both for (most of) the music but also, as the years went by, for the fact that these guys were funny, goofy, talented and crazy altogether. So it now hits me (not only about BSB, but for most artists) that their management, record companies, agents, consultants whatever, are constantly so "criminally" wrong in making them censor themselves, in making them believe that they should be a certain way to be appreciated etc etc. Creating a brand is one thing, but creating a product out οf a person is absolutely wrong, both for the person but also for your "business"! There is nothing more the audience relates to more than the genuine behaviours these people exhibit. And it was much much worse from the 2000s backwards. It saddens me that through all of it, AJ (and anyone else really) got to a certain age and state to now try to untangle all these mechanisms, because, in part, he felt his "persona", AJ, didn't allow it. Healthy and balanced people are waaay more appealing and in the end profitable (for themselves, however, and that is something the executives don't want). Great to hear him doing better..
I love Aj but him traveling like this while officially splitting from his marriage. I hope he continues to protect his recovery and helps his kids through it as well. Which I’m sure I’m sure he is.
@@bkkersey93 I feel like Rochelle was the one that wanted it. don’t think anything has been filed yet but it was said somewhere he did sell their family house before he went to New York. I know he said he’s going to co parent just hope he’s not losing himself so much.
