S. Prokofiev. Piano Concerto № 3 in C major, Op.26. Soloist Alexandеr Malofeev (16 y.o.). Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Alexander Sladkovsky. France. Festival International de Piano de La Roque d'Anthéron. 27/07/2018
I don’t see the need to compare this extraordinary artist with the greats of the past. He is not the new Rubinstein or Gillels. He is the one and only Alexander Malofeev, and he has already carved out his niche among the greats, with his flawless technique which he uses not to show off, but rather to humbly serve the profound ideas and emotions of whichever composer he performs. He is one of a kind.
Agreed. Especially with piano, I don't think one can say that this or that pianist is the best, or that this pianist is comparable with that pianist. At this level, there is only Alexander Malofeev when Alexander Malofeev is playing. There simply can't be any comparison because no other pianist can do an Alexander Malofeev performance. But, my goodness is he good! His comprehension and communication of the music is just spectacular. It's still tempting to make a comparison with Richter or someone like that, just to emphasise how utterly incredible his expressiveness is, because words fail.
I've heard quite a few performances of this work, but I have NEVER seen an performer of this work tapping out the rhythm with his left foot, pedalling and executing probably some of the most technically difficult passages ever written for the piano at the same time !! It took me a very long time to say I enjoy Prokofief's piano concertos, but this sublime performance by Alexander has given me enormous pleasure, mainly because I think that he plays it EXACTLY as the composer intended....and in the process he makes it breathtaking beautiful, in the same way he plays all the other major concertos, esp the Grieg. I am looking forward to hearing his interpretation of the Schumann A Minor..... Now, having said that, I am so humbled by this performance I think I will take my piano outside into the garden and BURN it !!!! and never touch a note again !! Thank you Alexander for giving me and so many others, sight and sound of your incredibly sublime gift. You have the technique, you have the musicality, you have the gift of "one-ness with the orchestra, and above all you have the charisma "IT" factor, and you have no competition out there ! Believe it.
@senseipheonex -- Oh, please do not burn your piano (I know you were just kidding)!! Whether you are accomplished or not, it is the source of many hours of enjoyment for you (and others that listen). Keep practicing, you'll become good enough to be proud of your endeavors. =)
@@penniesfromheaven9724 Never thought there are varied emotions resulting from Alexanders playing of the above musical piece. While i enjoy it enormously, others like Pennies find difficulty and so may i give this humble technique that i do everytime i listen to wonderfful playing of great talents as Alexander - empty my heart mind and soul so that the beauty of the musical piece will flow in magnitude towards my whole being. Pennies from heaven, may you do the same so nothing of the negative could invade.your listening pleasure.
A performance of supreme musicianship, married to an almost supernatural technical facility that makes every aspect of this work speak so powerfully and with that unique stamp that is Alexander’s own. It is that stamp that marks him out as the great pianist of our times. The critics should remember thar all the great musicians were equally unique in their own way. What a rich musical future he promises to all of us!
Man, I would have had a difficult time NOT clapping at the end of the 1st Mvmt!! Mercy me, brilliant pianist, wonderful orchestra and conductor! BRAVO for the entire performance!
Beautiful interpretation. Highly expressive. In many performances of this concerto, the expressive beauty gets lost in the technical bravado. This performance is amazing.
Gary Graffman would probably tell Alexander not to bother with anymore piano competitions, since both conductors and audiences alike, know what a superb pianist he is. This is what Graffman told Yuja Wang and Lang Lang when they were studying at the Curtis Institute.
@Alex Iglesias ...Alexander's playing is simply amazing and he makes my life better also, AND his wonderful performances make the world a better place also!
I always enjoy this conductor, and I don’t know his name. I don’t even know where this orchestra is. Living here in the desert I’m just lucky to have Utube to see and hear these marvelous people and compositions. Ahhhhh, I see someone has named the conductor and orchestra. Thank you.
A thrilling performance. At such a young age this exciting genius brings a freshness and integrity to this work, that many of the more established professionals seem to use as vehicles of mere technical cleverness. In this performance I was rarely aware of the fiendish difficulty of some passages because Malofeev put the music first. This is the clearest and most exciting performance I have heard in a long time. Most enjoyable.
This is why All nations should and fully negotiate all issues to resolution. The younger generations deserve to live in peace. So to ALL nations. Let it remain in peace for there sake. Please consider this wisely.
Wait wait...this is really really good. This tiny orchestra is stunning and Malofeev is crystal clear and in total control of the Black Beast. And his tempi were brave and totally under his hands. This is really good. Can’t get over it. The balance, the tone of the clarinet. All so good. I’m very intrigued.
You are right about the playing, but the video is a disgrace - just a fatuous distant shot throughout. You can see a much more professional version here on RU-vid where you can really SEE and hear when Alexander is such a miracle. Look out for Alexander Malofeev / Yannick Nézet-Séguin -- S. Prokofiev. Piano Concerto № 3
He has really opened my eyes to Prokofiev - just by his performance of this one piece. 2.22 et seq. is totally exhillarating! All the way through you are wondering what thrills are round the corner, and neither Prokofiev nor Alexander disappoint!
Wow, another mind-blowing performance by this absolutely incredible young man! Alexander brings true excitement to the stage, not only through his amazing technical abilities but also with his originalist interpretations, his emotional sensitivity, and his personal charm. He is the best, a superstar!
MY GOD!! EXTRAORDINARY! ALEXANDER HAS TO BE PART ROBOT (the good part) to hit the right keys (10) at the right time.....so VERY fast. Forgive me, I barely read music, but I always think of a challenging piece such as this as one in which the composer forewarns the orchestra members, “ If you aren’t out of notes when I’m at the end....STOP anyway.” And someone such as me, would never know that they hadn’t all reached the end together.🤩 BRAVO!
What a firecracker this boy is. I have never enjoyed this concerto as much as this performance. This is, in my humble opinion, what the composer intended when he created this masterpiece. Alexander has a new fan in me . . .
Awesome! Prokofiev never sounded better, like hearing it for the first time. Claudio Arrau once said: "A pianist should always be true to himself. If the critics like it, fine. But if not, so be it" I hope Alexander always follows this advice, even if judges in important competitions resent him playing better than they do.
Alexander, I'm so delighted to hear you playing Prokofiev (including his sonatas). I would love to hear you play Visions Fugitive (all the sonatas, of course), but also Ginastera's Sonatas, and Shchedrin's 2nd piano concerto ... actually, a complete Shchedrin for piano. I promise I'll buy the CDs :) Also, most importantly, **ask Shchedrin to compose you a piano sonata. Please!** Meanwhile, thank you for the music you have provided so far.
