Even though I was a little ass kid when this came out, I remember how popular this show was at the time, is why it just popped in my memory bank just now lol
The way this show had me in tears… it’s mcqueen at his absolute finest. giving us couture and ready to wear style garments combined with that JAW DROPPING finale… ugh im in love ❤
This is my 4th or 5th time watching this video. First and foremost, beautiful women and real models. I am a photographer and I would kill to photograph something like this. Such a simple runway show with such a conceptual approach. The designs are so current and look very current today. The chess game segment was just brilliant and thought that was very inventive.
Amazing amount of variation in how the skirts move on the all the short dresses - just beautiful. And loved the shapes of some of the skirts - the one that looked kind of like a garlic bulb, another one like a lampshade.
I wonder why no one comments on Bianca Balti, Marija Vujovic, and Caroline Ribeiro ( & other, White Russian models) being in blackface in the yellow dress section…. It’s worse that there are only two actual black women in the lineup… with Ajuma out-walking them all too.
im glad you wrote that comment because I don't know anything about the models or their ethnicity or much about Mcqueen but I could tell something was off, I just didn't know if I was missing something most people knew about the show, like there was some commentary being made I was unaware of. I looked up this video because just started reading Savage Beauty, which seems to really gas him up on "exploring notions of diversity, difference and distinction." It mentions this show was supposed to pitch East (Japan) against West (America), but there are only 5 potentially "Japanese" women ...And then the only black women are made to be the football players... and after black facing white models for the "ethnic" side making their King blatantly white....what? why?
@@cheyennebuchananit’s absurdist stuff to be honest, to have a collection full of cultural influences without actually representing or respecting the cultures which he is essentially mocking, is bizarre. There needed to be far more diversity in the lineup.
Caroline Ribeiro was native Brazilian and i'd say she has always have a somewhat tannish complexion. She probably did get some tanning paint here but not as much as the others in her segment
