"Sideways" is my absolute favorite! I am seeing "The Holdovers" tomorrow, so we will see if that is better or the same. In any case, Paul G. stars in both, and he is an amazing talent.
Election, by far, one of the greatest films of the last 25 years. It takes characters that are usually villains and makes them human and very funny. The jock is not a sadistic jerk but a good hearted if empty headed guy, his campaign speech done as a long run-on sentence was hilarious. Tracy Flick was a spot on parody of the over achiever. Many themes used for comedic purposes which most would be afraid to do today.
That movie probably made me feel more than any other movie this year, and by that standard (and I think that probably should be how to measure a film) it was better than the rest. Love this guy's movies
You wouldn't believe it @joshhorowitz - but people laugh about movies in solitude as well. I did watch his movie and enjoyed it (for myself) very much. So much so, that I recommended it to others. My initial feeling that is was very much like a french movie - was spot on I suppose. He did a wonderful job with this one and I can only say thank you, Alexander Payne, for such a enriching addition to the movie world.
Downsizing is a wonderful film, actually. It's just that so much of it is very, very uncomfortable--like a prophecy. This was a fine interview, thank you Josh!
@nh0522 Yeah, is too easy today just accuse someone on internet and destroy a person's life, but no trial, no legal actions, nothing! We can do this with anyone. So, sorry, an article isn't a trial, isn't a jury, isn't a judge. :-/
