Every time he plays the violin I get chills all over.

He's in love with a fairytale meaning he's in love with the idea of his relationship with her. They had a terrible relationship, clearly from the song, but he's romanticizing it because he misses her. The "fairytale" aspect is a version of their relationship that only consists of the happy parts, a sugar-coded, rose-tinted version of them, and he's in love with the idea of it.

I’m from Norway, and I saw this with my wife in 2009. It was a beautiful day. This song represents a lot of Norway’s traditional history.
