For sure especially for his career, he was ranked ten and Mendes was coming off a win Mendes didn’t need to risk his rank but he did and Volk fought Aldo for the title shot straight after this
Chads corner was awesome after the first round. You can hear Volks corner tell him to go low. It switches to Mendes corner and he said watch for him going low.
If you look at voldanski he doesn’t move a lot but he’s quick at moving when responding to the opposition which preserves his energy look how he stayed very quick the whole match
Very similar to Mendez's loss to Mcgregor. The way Volk and Conor got back to their feet at the end of the second and started T'ing off on a gassed out Mendez who spent the last of,,,, his energy trying to keep the fight on the mat. Even similar body language when chad went down.
This was Chads first fight in like 2 years. His cardio was not where it usually was. This would of been a great fight if Mendes was in shape. This was a close fight until Mendes shot his load when he put Volk down. Props for Volk for coming back. I feel Mendes quit when he got hurt to the body
One of Volk's great attributes that make him a great fighter is the way he can stay focus for the entirety of the round. Mendes in the beginning of 1st round was walking down Volk, but by the end Volk was backing him up. You see Mendes mentally getting tired in the end of the 1st rd. Cudos to Cruz catching it and mentioning it the beginning of 2nd rd. I dunno, but I notice similar focus with guys that trains in Tiger Muy Thai. Yan, Fiziev, Schevchenko, Adesanya. With Adesanya is just a little diff. He would understand when to relax and use to control the fight. Maybe, the mentality of how they train there. Nice Nice
I agree with everything you said plus Mendez was just burning himself out trying to shoot on a dude who can wiggle out of it in seconds and get right back on his feet.
Maybe it’s the Muay Thai influence. Thai fighters are very calm and focused cus of the rule set. Kicks in the arm are still scored and getting a kick checked sucks. Getting elbowed and swept from being overly agressive sucks aswell. So they typically have a slow patient approach if you’ve noticed. This doesn’t do well sometimes in other combat sports cuz they can be blitzed and ko’d with boxing but if you can adjust that calm patient shot selection to other sports it works well.
@@MrJeppo96 controls the hips really well which makes sprawling out almost impossible and u can’t really punch or kick them. The only very effective attacks would be a guillotine which could potentially just gas u out or maybe 12-6 downwards elbows which are illegal because they would be to the back/spine or back of the head.
@@MrJeppo96 Check out the beginning of R2 of Jon Jones vs Glover Texeira and Paulo Costa countered this takedown very well against Yoel Romero. And Rory McDonald vs Robbie Lawler.
Chad was very underrated. Never got the title but had one of the best fights ever with Aldo, pushed Prime Conor and Volk tremendously. His gas tank was sometimes not always there but he was a great fighter.
I think Cruz is Chad big fan he talk a lot about Chad and close to the end of the fight Chad was getting beat up and the fight stop that whole time Cruz was silent 😂😂😂
This looks like when both players pick the same character on the video game but only one of them knows the controls. Someone dye your hair blue already 😂
"Former professional rugby player. He was a front rower, and when he played rugby; 214lbs competing at 145lbs tonight." Rogan: 🤨 What?! ...... is that real? Anik: Its what the card says Rogan: Thats impossible..
Gased out mostly, no leg lock and in centre cage. Back control isn't easy when you're exhausted and the other guy is continuously twisting. Not only was Volk twisting but also working the grip. Once he broke the grip Chad had to get out of there. Mendes would have been better doing that on the cage side rather than in the middle.
What a fight, Walkanovski took his chances, Mendes did not, tafnes of Wolkanovski is unbelievable, you hurt him he hurt you more, straight away, fantastic ❤ 11:20
