Damn man I got tears in my eyes over this fight. Mostly because I remember watching it live, I was just a teenager. Fast forward to last year, I did everything I could to go see Nate fight at UFC 279. I was kind of broke but I made it happen because I needed to see one of the Diaz bros fight live in my lifetime. Boy was it worth it... These men should be treated like royalty. They put their health on the line to give us a show. And as a huge fan of MMA, I am forever indebted
The initial BJ takedown, Nick counter roll, BJ reversal, Nick defending, BJ taking the back and Nick switching, is amazing. Jui Jitsu masters showing off.
Watching old fights you see the strong BJJ base mainly. Later his boxing totally evolved. He has to be one of the best boxers in any weight class, of all time in MMA
How the fuck did bj survive the last 2 rounds?. It looked like he went out on his feet a couple times, but he didnt go down once. These men are absolute warriors. Mad respect.
Love Nick but he quit on himself, 18 months will def demoralize anybody tho for weed let's be honest. Should've been 6 months or 3 months at most for the time being
Wasn’t the UFC’s fault tbh. You know much money Dana knew he could make off the Diaz bros, Nick most of all? It was NSAC, the commission that essentially suspended him for weed as long as they did.
They lowered it to a year and a half while Nate smoked right at the Promos 😅 Crazy weed was more harsh than Steroids penalty wise back then..Plus Dana just didn't like Diaz bros
This was the tony ferguson vs Justin gaethje fight 10 years ago lmao just watching one of our favorite fighters who’s never been beaten up get violently beaten down by the brawler of the division.
This is crazy. Bj was on the fence getting destroyed. How was he still standing?! Rewatching 7 months later. Bj honestly gained a big fan after seeing this.
Man you need to dig deep in bj penns fight library he has classics I've watched him from the Joe's Stevenson fight on Joe Stevenson lives in my town so everyone was pumped but let's just say it did not end well for Joe still a warrior though
@@BettaBjj Well they both are warriors no doubt but if you listen to later interviews from Nick diaz he never really like to fight but nate that is what he lives for
Nick destroyed BJ. 2 pioneers of MMA & my personal favorites. They both fought this one like true warriors I really think this fight was more brutal than most realize.
Not as brutal as Ferguson vs Gaethje. One of my favorite fights is Hooker vs Porier. Reminds me of this fight, only difference is Porier hits way harder than BJ or Nick.
After the fight Nick gave him a big hug back stage. Nick was always great at getting in peoples heads and working up the crowd but he seems like a decent guy.
This was prime Diaz with Penn on the down side of his career. Sadly a reoccurring issue in Penns career was preperation, nó Marinonich, a weight higher and as Diaz said the night before the fight stuffing himself with ribs wasn't gonna help, interestingly Nick said pork pre fight has a terrible negative effect on the body performing. Valiant effort by Bj though, just the wrong time and wrong weight to fight Nick. Props to Diaz, very disciplined
First off, thank you for posting this fight homie!! This is why BJ has such a glass jaw these days. Hopefully cte doesn’t kick in too badly. Good thing this wasn’t a 5 rounder.
There's no guarantee at all that BJ Penn will get CTE. I mean plenty of fighters(both boxers, and mix martial artists) never develop such a debilitating brain disease. But Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and good ole fashion punch drunk are also still on the table.
You should want to be like yourself bro. I get what you're saying but idolizing people werm don't know minimizes our awareness of people around us who deserve that admiration. Besides wouldn't you feel better if you could apply that same energy towards your own accomplishments? Idk what do I know, Im no better lol just food for thought
There has never been, and never will be, another fighter like Nick Diaz. I'm so happy I got to watch his fights while they were live. Something about it, he is just one of the baddest dudes to ever do it. His ground game is super creative too, love how he grabbed BJ's leg when BJ took his back in rd1.
I just love to see Nick Diaz in motion Real artist at work Only few flows like that Mcgregor in his prime was also joy to watch Anderson Silva or Stephen Thompson
first round, nick originally seemed to have better striking but he couldnt really get comfortably composed for the rest of the round after he was taken down.
He said his before he was as big of a name as he is. Coming from stockton and To say he wouldnt do it for millions and millions shows you how fucking real he is.
Two of my favorite fighters to watch. Their skill level is off the charts. The thing with BJ is he never committed to being in the best shape possible. Cardio is king in this sport. Also, Nick in his life has known what it's like not to have any food, for instance. There is a desperation he fights with. And I don't think BJ has ever known that desperation.
There is truth about "the Hunger"... construction workers know, it keeps you sharp. When it time to eat, we eat, and fuel our bodies, but we "stay hungry" through a good part of the day, not everyone, but it was pretty common for snacking to be pretty light, and one giant meal at dinner.
joey karate diaz vs DJ Penn the finest raver of Hawaii.. you need to go clubbing more bruv how can you not know of DJ Penn? one of the greatest 155 BPM DJs of all time...
He was the worst stylistic nightmare for BJ... Have good boxing? Nick's is better. Have a black belt in BJJ? Nick's came from a better teacher.. Mediocre cardio? Diaz is a triathlete
Nick and Nate are GRINDERS with a kill or be killed mindset, never give up till your dead.Neither had big power but their Cardio has always been phenomenal.Prob Great to have a sparring partner that's nearly your equal when they trained together.Granted this older BJ but he got so worn down by the constant pressure
That back take by bj was awesome for being older and significantly smaller with a cardio disadvantage I think he did pretty good I wonder if they fought earlier in their careers who would’ve won
@@johnnyboyfour20 There's no such thing as a precise "male prime" that applies to every male fighter. That's like looking at the average adult male height and concluding that every adult male is exactly that height
Weird really because the diaz brothers have unbelievable pace but lack that Ko power and then you have people like conor who have sniper like power but lack the pace and durability. Has a lot to do with muscle fibers etc
