I have crippling stress & anxiety issues, the toll it have on my body is stomach issues and bowel, I don’t think a lot of people talk about this, so happy they are shedding light on this issue that many people have to deal with
@zar5101

I had anxiety issues, too, and it was torture. My stomach would hurt and make noises, and most days, I was embarrassed to go to school. It lasted 3 years. The one thing that made me upset and angry is that none of my teachers understood what I was going through. No matter how many times I tried to explain my situation, they'd still be hostile towards me. I'm not sure if what I had was IBS, but whoever is going through what I went through, I hope you get through it.

I am just gong down the road of talking to my GP about my IBS symptoms I've had for a long time. I'm so thankful Dr Nighat mentions that it is a diagnosis of elimination. This video was so helpful. Thank you Dr Nighat, Alexandra and This Morning!

I've suffered from crippling IBS since I was 13 years old; it's so common yet so rarely talked about. The pain after eating is the WORST!! (Especially if you're a performer because it can be so debilitating). Well done for speaking out, Alexandra 😃

IBS has been the bane of my life right from childhood. It can just hit out the blue even with foods I have eaten plenty of times before with no problem. Mine is also very emotion triggered-and sort of stress or anxiety sets me off. But I can also be feeling absolutely fine one minute, sat eating dinner when suddenly I have to abandon the meal to rush to the loo. It is actually really limiting-as I kid I could never feel comfortable sleeping over at friends houses. And now as an adult I can’t feel comfortable holidaying with friends unless I have my own loo. I can’t eat out anywhere far from home in case the meal suddenly disagrees with me. It’s a pain. 😢

Do you know why there is no cure? Because there is no public investment in basic and applied research. IBS is a constellation of symptoms caused by different mechanisms that some researchers have identified. Cure exists for some subtypes of IBS, namely those with non-IgE food allergies identified, some SCN5A mutations and mitigated with bile acid diarrhea medication or congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency identification and treatment (pharmacological or dietary).

I got diagnosed by a gastroenterologist as having a sensitive gut which falls under the IBS banner. With the help of a NHS dietician, I went on the FODMAP elimination diet to find out which sugar groups (of carbohydrates) I am intolerant too. The Monash University app who developed the FODMAP diet is invaluable. I know exactly what foods I can eat now and their quantities. It means I have drawn up my own food list and I am constantly weighing foods. I have created my own FODMAP recipe book (lots of books available and recipes on line). I have adapted recipes and created my own. I am generally well, just have the odd flare up if I make a mistake. Foods can heal, but in my case they can also harm. Half a clove of garlic will put me in bed for two days and takes me a week to fully recover. Luckily there are alternatives like wild garlic and asafoetida spice powder. Eating smaller meals helps too and I prefer liquid food like soups and broths (I order on line the massel stock cubes).

I've been living with IBS for about a decade now...connected to having Muscular Dystrophy. It's horrible but I have had to learn to live with it as my triggers seem to change...it gets worse when I'm stressed or anxious too!
@Evolvewithtina
@Evolvewithtina Год назад
As an IBS therapist, I'm so glad this is being discussed openly. Yet, I'm frustrated that the NHS is so outdated in its understanding and treatment of IBS. IBS is now classified as a condition of the Gut-Brain Connection, meaning both mind and body need to be explored. Avoidance of foods and stress is not practical or helpful in the long run. Address the root cause and relieve all symptoms.

SIBO is often mistakenly diagnosed as IBS, worth trying intermittent fasting (2 males a day within 6 hour period) low FODMAP foods, probiotics and prokinetics to speed up your MMC (your body's way of clearing the gut). The mentioned Symprove is very expensive.

'Bed bound' is the right kind of description for IBS symptoms. I'm fed up of being told 'Just eat prunes, just have fibre, yada, yada, yada, etc". If any of those methods worked, I wouldn't still be getting IBS symptoms. Duh. 😄😊

I had Ibs c symptoms since I was 17 but did not get diagnosed until I was in my mid 30s. I had gone to the Dr a lot over this. I would be doubled up in pain crying each time I ate until I got probiotic Alflorex and after using it 2 weeks the pain from eating went but if I forget to take it two days in a row the pain after eating comes back. I am allergic to soya protein my worst allergy. I am allergic to dairy protein and gluten intolerant. I get cramps, bloating, super tired, constipation bad and need to wee so much more. You feel like a fat pig some days from the bloat. You feel rundown a lot. Ibs runs in my family. My older sister has it, a cousin on my mom's side and an aunt on my mom's side of the family. I have scalp psoriasis (looks like I don't have it due to medicated shampoo and cold tar ointment). If you have psoriasis I was told you have a 40% higher chance of getting Ibs. I have a lot of other health issues. I thank God almost daily that even though I have Ibs I don't have Ibs d. It does not help my job is stressful and even more so at certain months when certain deadlines due and it makes my Ibs symptoms worse.
