Former soldier Ant Middleton explains why he has no regrets killing people while on duty. More Skavlan Twitter: / skavlantvshow Facebook: / skavlantalkshow Instagram: / skavlantvshow
Thank you all for watching and commenting! To all of you discussing the questions about killing, this is a topic in the book he released around the time of this interview.
You had a great man in your presence and you asked him does he feel bad for "killing fathers" Read his book yourself and you'll understand what you did wrong.
@The Life Of Coal deary me, you prick. Is that all you have fucking weirdo nonsense? You think you are better than Saville obsessing online acting like the fucking moron you are? Posting 20 times on SAS vids? You need help, You muppet.
you guys are deluded, the world is a long way from being 'clean..' the government, big pharma, the war machine and international bankers are the REAL 'enemy'...
You´re the only one who red that correctly, Ant is making everybody but the politician guy uncomfortable and perplexed. A lot of people are commenting about how those two women " wanting him for dessert" don´t know where they see that. I know that look for living in Scandinavia almost 20 years and being an outlier myself, these women are in no way whatsoever attracted to Ant. They are trying to figure out how "insane" or "psycho" he must be as he tells his story and their body language is of perplexity not attraction. Guys like Ant are repulsive to most Scandinavian women as of late.
i'd imagine the strange looks they give him are from lack of familiarity and abundance of novelty, he's done things very very few people can truly understand and he talks about it comfortably... people have to pretend to 'get it' but thankfully most never will
@@SacredNutrino true and particularly among Scandinavians as per their current values they culturally see themselves as " evolved beyond violence" and anything associated with violence is considered utter barbarity. These people perceive men like Ant as some sort of caveman.
@@notundermywatch3163 he's a brainwashed drone 'protecting our country' hahaha who is he trying to kid? y'all are trying to turn a perspective into something deep and objective, and it doesn't work.
I don't think that's the case AT ALL. The athlete is in awe of him. And did you guys even listen to the politician? He was incredibly understanding!? It's probably the case that you are not used to how people in some European countries hold themselves; facial expressions are different, postures, even the way they talk (other than the actual language.) I myself have realized I have to tailor how I come across in Australia, my Aussie girlfriend thought we're all fighting when she came overseas (but we were just having a normal convo amongst friends. The presenter however, I think it's rude to blatantly ask how many people he killed, and then pushing that avenue when it was answered.
Personally I would never ask a solider if he’d ever killed someone or seen horrors in a war-zone. Anyone whose served in the forces and done a tour - nothing but respect & thank you.
Context matters and this host asked it way too casually. A better way would’ve been to presume the kills and just ask Ant how he felt about his mission and then casualties in war.
The problem is, the wars that happened do to provocation by the US, false flags and complete invasion of howl countries. Just during Obama(a god damn nobel peace prize winner?!) 3 MILLION civilians got slaughtered. That's the real issue here.
its a pretty dumb question since he has his own tv show and wikipedia page. To me its a setup to make him look bad for the interviewer's agenda. Or maybe make him second guess himself. Even if he did feel bad it wont change anything in the past, doesnt stop the SAS doing its job. But it will open the doors for the possibility in future of the soldier going mad, depressed etc.
I also think it's a bit reductive to just heap praise and glory on someone just because they were in the armed forces. Military personnel often have horrendous jobs but also military personnel have done some horrible things to innocent civilians "on tour". It's a complicated situation, but I'd rather listen to someone's story first before rushing to beatify them simply because they served in a military force I happened to approve of.
“How many people have you killed” A question you shouldn’t ask a solider, it’s the most uncomfortable question to answer. But Ant answered that very well and calmly.
As an ex RN Submariner, I am just very thankful that the likes of Ant and all of our special forces are on our side and not the side of evil. Having met quite a few of them and worked alongside them, they are highly trained, highly skilled men that are also intelligent individuals. BZ Ant for the way you handled this interview.
disrespectful questions answered by a true Gent, NEVER ask a Soldier how many kills, he just done his job, Very well at that, respect to you Mr Middleton and thankyou for your service
@Jimmy Davies in an SAS team there are four men, say you take a 50 man fort every 2 days that's say 13 per man each fort that's 65 kills a week. over a 10 year career there are too many to count
a true psychopat, going at 10 000 kilometers from his country to kill guys because they are dangerous for his people, such f...g stupid statement. his jib he says is to save life, life of who ? taliban are in the other side of the world. its war about opium stupid, its not about terrorism
I've watched this so many times and this just occurred to me. Ant Middleton is a war time soilder, he speaks so frankly of his experience. The other members are just civilians. They can't relate in any way. Almost shocked. Thank god for soilders like ant Middleton and the British armed forces
@@Artix-x3kk What he does is heroic, I wish I had the courage to go out there and obliterate them from the face of the earth myself, alas I do not, and so I'm glad that we have men like him around. I'm sure he views what he does as a privilege and an honour.
ToomuchFam During WW2 German troops who had come across sentries etc , with slashed throats , summarily "nutted " 36 of them that had been captured behind enemy lines .. "Nutted " Part of .SA.S terminology when shooting a person in the back of the head Eg Like they did to Arab nationalist who took over the Iranian Embassy They made it clear their beef was with the Iranian Ayatollah . They made no effort to defend themselves .by throwing weapons on the floor . According to hostages .
" we sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do us harm" never been a more fitting statement for guys of his calibre. Thank you for your service.
I have read all ants books he is such a great guy he is a proud father husband and an exceptional Man without soldiers like him the world would be a very sorry place
@@fearlesswolf5928 Yes, I understand but the question is due to purile, voyeuristic and vicarious motives. What kind of response are they expecting? If they say yeah killing means nothing then it would be a shock but if he does feel uncomfortable then why put them through it? Soldiers do civvy society's dirty work so leave them the dignity to deal with it in their own way rather than putting them on display for our curiosity.
@@Drayton627 you do realise that Ant and Andy Mcnab put themselves on public display when they agree to go on these shows or public speaking in university's and they know what questions are going to be asked. No one is forcing them to take part. It's not your job or mine to say what questions can an can't be asked that's up to the individual soldier to make that decisions. When they take part in these discussions...
@S F well it's kinda an unwritten rule which most soldiers follow but obviously you are so wise and know everything, so tell me have you ever taken another's life before?
You must not ask a person who went to war how many people did you kill. Its not a simple thing to kill a man and get over it. Many veterans really struggle with post-traumatic stress. Ant was extremely calm and mindful in that question and it was amazing. I'm really frustrated about the interviewer and the question he asked.
If anyone has read Ant’s book, you will know he does not mind being asked “The Question”, and doesn’t understand why people are so funny around the whole thing. It was his job, it wasn’t like he killed people for personal reasons. His book is a great read by the way.
jimboslice613 He has to follow orders. That’s his job and his career. He has no choice in the matter. Blame those who make the decisions not those who execute them.
Maybe. But you can see by his reaction that he wasn't expecting such a direct question like that. He exhales, looks down. The way it was asked was very blunt, and not really respectful.
The Life Of Coal How the hell is that weak minded? They’ve chosen a career path and (the majority) know what that entails. They’re simply told and they have to execute. That’s it.
Ant has done his country proud, he is a highly trained individual, is it just me or are these interviewers trying to get the negatives out of ants life and career instead of the positives? I like how ant just tells them all the positives in thier questions. Even when ant he mentions a negative he explains how it's a positive every time.
For the people complaining about the mode of questioning, remember that English is not the first language of the questioner and their culture is different.
Ant basically discovered mindfulness for himself without any self help. It's not our emotions that are the real problem, it's our relationship to them.
Yeah, it does seem he has himself figured out, and thats the Least every person should do if we want our society to thrive, not die. That said, the part about "mindfulness for himself without any self help" doesnt really make sense, because there is no such thing as "self-help", because if a person figures out how to address a problem using someone elses ideas, thats not "self-help" - its Help. If a person figures how to fix the problem on his own, he didnt need help in the first place.
It’s not the amount of people he’s killed that phases him, it’s the questions being asked. It’s hard for a man who’s seen pure and unedited evil, explain to someone who hasn’t why rational action must take place. Nothing but respect for Ant. A national hero
Why is he a hero? did the Taliban declared war on England and announced a full scale invation? I have talked with many Englishpeople and they fear unemployment or aliens more than they fear the Taliban. Ant is bad_ass, yes we know that, you ought to be if the SAS want you. But a hero? I've seen no reason to grant him that title.
We owe a lot to soldiers like Ant, all can agree on that. But, it is interesting to ask and see how these soldiers can do things which they are trained to do and yet be normal or lead a normal life. It is not easy.
Look at his body language.. shaking his head. He cannot believe he is being asked this. His voice changes too. Poor guy. This is actually extremely outrageous and the host should be ashamed of himself.
he was on there to promote his book. And the fucking book is about killing people. Ant has been very vocal about him being fine with answering that question and doesn't understand why others find it awkward. You don't know what your talking about mate.
Nahh, this is something he has contemplated on his own. His head shaking is a sign of mental discomfort from his own perception. If he knew the answer, he would have answered it calm and with a more assertive body language, but his body language and essentially tone is a part of his neural network that shows a bit of discomfort to the question, because he doesn’t have a clear answer. He has an answer to try to justify what has happened, but there is no 100% certainty that he completely believes in his own conclusion. The healthy part of this, is, he believes in good and bad, and wants to not be justified as bad. He though is contemplating his own “personal” answer, hence the head shake as a no posture.
Such disrespectful questions. Answered them extremely well. Fair play Ant. *Edit* to anyone posting hate, I'm entitled to an opinion as are you, posting abuse to me in the comments only proves you are part of what is wrong with this society. Thanks.
I completely agree. These guys ask thwm questions from their ivory towers sleeping like a baby every night because ant and their 43 scandanavian soldiers have fought to keep them safe. I would love to see us retreat and point towards sweden and watch syria take over as the swedish accept shariah law😂
Oh fuck off. If he has the guts to take peoples lifes then he should be able to answer these type of questions. Trying to act like a hero in front of you Cod wankers while keeping his cool says nothing about him.
I prefer the silent ones who don't talk about it. There is something not quite right here. When I see interviews with WWII commandos who were involved in wars and operations or SAS who were in incidents such as the Iranian Embassy, they are somehow different. They don't talk like this.
Imagine saying That and actually believing that... Our many privileges are not dependent on committing war crimes for oil and corporations or to suck America's dick.
I have such respect for this man I share his views on every aspect of his approach to dealing with life it's all a simple pattern just got to break it down and solve the problem move on to life's next challenges thank you for you dedication to all the grateful and ungrateful people you fight to protect may you always have peace of mind
@@quandaledingle7812 Do not disrespect this man in such a manner he is an equaliser he carried out work to save others lives some people have to carry out this kind of work and we can thank them and thank god its not us that has to do it.
Russell Marmon he went to Afghanistan to murder people for oil how is that something to be commended why do soldiers get treated like they're heroes when they go to other countries to murder, torture and leave the countries in ruins. Who's lives did he save specifically because murdering some random terrorist in Afghanistan who's fighting with rudimentary weapons isn't exactly securing safety for his home country
@@quandaledingle7812 These terrorists deserved everything they received because they are the murderers. It depends which side of the fence you view its just a difference of opinion but make no mistake terrorists are not nice peaceful people. Islamic state exports terrorists all over the World to spread there ideology. Sick of hearing there only there for the oil this is absolute nonsense kosovo for example UK and US forces went there and protected the victimised Muslims THERE WAS NO GAIN NO OIL, I didn't know there were oil fields in Afghanistan but I know they grow opium and export the drugs to the west.
@@russellmarmon2847 Like when he beat up that police officer and attacked the female officer accompanying him too? Really respectful that. Yes he's served our country but he's an angry killing machine that responds with violence at the first provocation.
Very hard questions. I don’t think the interviewer should of asked these types of questions in front of an audience. Ant handled those questions so professionally, and honourably.
Any question is fair game. The interviewer seemed like a prick, but he asked good hard questions. Ps. You could almost swim in the wetness the two girls were secreting over him...
He has a show that is basically the same concept except adult trying to prove themselves. And the celebrity version is practically the young kids with anger issues concept.
Very well said. I can relate to the dreams. I always have dreams that I do not have my gear and frantic about being in a situation I do not know what to do. This has been going on for years!
They are from another planet. Lefty liberal Sweden where they just shut out any world they don't like or that doesn't fit into their version of the world they want to create.
So this is finally back on in Australia on tv right now..I was watching the UK version prior to this and all I can say what an amazing influencer and motivator this guy and the other members in the sas are even not only tv but this guy is a boss mainly because U can't conquer the mind it's always about trust and belief in yourself apart from the freak attacks that happen to many soldiers
He's not talking about the similarities of war and sport..... It's the similarities in mindset of a SF operator and an elite athlete. The ability in their heads to make them be the best at what they do, to be the best over everybody else....it's the mental processes that push them to be the best. You can be physically able but if your not mentally able to push yourself that much harder, that much further......Nothing else will matter, you fail.
I see Ant on a regular basis. He's a thoroughly nice guy, very compassionate, great family man with a gsoh. Always got time to speak with me. A rough diamond
yeh a real nice guy.... who kills people for money or some delusion that he's saving lives or protecting some kind of national pride. One of the worst types of people out there if you ask me.
Great Soldiers always have an air/atmosphere of a Sage/Holy man about them. UK TV show starring Ant Middleton convinced my mind that the feeling/atmosphere I just described was true. The principles of self improvement and a family commitment to the shared goal between Soldiers evident in Ant Middletons SAS TV show proved beyond doubt that Soldiers have lots to give society over and above their skills in battle.
Thomas jobson .. He is a tasty burger, he's adorable, it makes me smile the way he takes it all in his stride. I've seen a picture of Gemma Collins linking up arms with him at some event, her face tells a real story. She's swooning all over him. He has no problem with the linking arms, he's a real gentleman, but you can tell from his point of view, there's no interest there whatsoever. I wonder what he'd be like if some mega beauty did the same thing. My guess is, he'd act with the same dignified politeness. It's a good job his wife trusts him 100%.. She seems very grounded. I would like her as a friend, and she's a great mum.
This was so interesting to watch and I respect all levels of his mindset- and everyone else’s honesty towards their experience - but THE WAY HE LOOKS AT people when they are talking with the SLIGHT PSYCHO Smile 🙄😯goddamn.!! You can tell he was seriously very passionate about his job and country but also held himself to a respectful level by listening 👂 to others opinions (even when he wanted to laugh and say “you have NO IDEA” ) great video!! 👏👏👏 I still don’t know how I got here- glad I did !!
They look at him like he's nuts. They live in their cocoon of privilege and can't fathom how someone could live that life. To him its a day at the office. I was a cop. Most people thought I was insane and wouldn't dream of that job. Not many will run to danger. Its not natural. For the ones that do it, they love it.
Tbh it's in a man's nature to fight us as men crave fighting and war thats why the male body produces testosterone is to fight. And why there has always been war is because men crave war. Armys are a prime example of that because you know what your job is and its to kill and protect
The amount of sad and bad things ant has seen and experienced and he can sit and smile about his life and explain it so clearly... I've got nothing but respect for the man, he's a national hero just like every other man and woman who are in the armed forces.. best in the world by far
I really like ant Middleton, he has time for everyone. I met him once and every person including myself that went up to him and asked for a photo he talked to them asked their name and had a photo. So down to earth. I met Billy Billingham as well and he was exactly the same and the amount of charity work that man gives is unbelievable he actually has his own charity
Gabriel Oneill another keyboard warrior. Call him scum to his face he would rip your head off. Get some respect how are you calling a elite soldier who serve the country scum wtf. You are probably a politically correct soft boy. It’s his job he’s not a murderer. Are you stupid the people he harmed are scum and deserve it. They don’t just go over to Syria afghan etc and go and kill lots of innocent. They’re there to kill the people who are a threat to our country who despise us
Special forces my arse, try 20 years with my wife, that’s true endurance. I don’t get a medal or anything, well maybe a nosh on my birthday, chrimbo if I chose the right gift.
@@WhiteDawn. People have died on the Tour de France but, thats not the comparison. To do well in a gruelling race like that takes dedicate and mental fortitude, to push your limits right to breaking point. Its the exceptionalism in both of them, different things and one is clearly more dangerous than the other but both take dedication and mental strength.
been in plenty of races with members of the armed forces, and especially mountain races with paras and special forces, they could do what I did, but not the other way around.
@The Life Of Coal If this bothers you so much go and ask the manly, male terrorist Alphas that hide behind those women and children to stop using them as human shields?
@The Life Of Coal he was part of the Sas there job is to rescue hostages or take out specific people although I do agree that infantry soldiers would have killed innocent people but by accident
I hate this interviewer it’s almost like he’s trying to make him feel bad for doing his job and protecting the majority, true gentleman handling the interview like he did
I don't think there is anything wrong with asking someone how they feel about taking lives - no matter the motive. If we are going to scrutinise anything, surely that is a good place to start.
What a man. He could'nt possibly portray what he had done or what he had seen in this studio setting. I guess you had to be there. I served in the British Army but certainly not SF. I tip my hat to this man and his kind .Heroes all !
This guy is a great human being. I appreciate everything he has done. Plenty of evil in this world that everyone never sees. He protects everyone from those people. From a fellow man from the US…….. keep your head up brother. You’re appreciated hands down!
Just because you assault someone doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. He could’ve been going through something and needed help. How he responds to making his mistake determines whether or not he’s a good person. If he learns from it and gets help then does good in the world then he’s a good person. If he assaults people and doesn’t learn from it and keeps repeating crimes then yeah he’s probably not a good person. Everyone acts like they’re so perfect. Life’s hard and people make mistakes. Chill.
@J B I’m impressed with his ability to battle his demons in such a short amount of time. Generally people have to “take a minute” to regain composure. Ask why someone thinks something in the future, because then you won’t have to assume.
@J B not passive aggressive.... honest, before I delve deeper into your random thought process as you have mine. A couple of questions: 1-do you know me personally? 2-why did you find the need to be condescending with your 1st reply?
@Andrew M He joined the army to protect lives not to kill you fucking idiot no one goes into the army wanting to kill and if you don't come out the same person you were before please stop your bullshit it's his job he is doing it for the greater good
@Andrew M You do realise this isn't an English lesson? No it is a RU-vid comment section so relax about punctuation because it is honestly quite sad but majority of the people who join the army want to serve and protect their country now I don't agree with innocent people getting killed but at the end of the day what they are doing is for the greater good and you shouldn't be scrutinizing Ant for it because he isn't a bad person he just followed orders and did the job at hand don't take it out on him he is just a pawn on a chessboard it is the government who you should be having your gripe with. Furthermore just because I am not using punctuation doesn't mean I can't make a good point
@Andrew M No no I was saying that you shouldn't be bringing up punctuation as it doesn't matter in a RU-vid comment section hence why I said this isn't an English lesson because grammar and punctuation isn't important and isn't the main topic. Ant isn't a bad person just because he joins the military he doesn't take pride in killing people he only does it when it is needed and you know what you raise good points but the fact is, is that ant isn't a bad person because he killed someone in war because who says he wants to do it the people who are bad are the government as they are the ones who make the decisions like I said he is just the pawn in a chessboard no more than that he takes lives to save lives and it is easy as that and people don't just join the military to kill
This is an interesting perspective. It’s sad that he didn’t have family support, but he seems to have made a life for himself & created his own family. I really enjoy seeing these different perspectives on the same subject. Everyone is so respectful. We need more of this listening & trying to understand each other in America.
I disagree with how he's chose to live after the military. he's just doing the American thing using his special forces life to get fame. part of the reason the SAS/SBS are STILL the best in the world is secretive nature of it. him and others should not be shining a spot light on it. that being said he still has my complete respect and admiration for service to queen and country. 🇬🇧
It's not respective to take part in destroying any countries and their livelihood. Need to learn to respect other cultures and stop bullying the world to follow a certain culture and enforcing it. Look how much more problems have developed from interfering and then invading. We can't now live safe. Should be ashamed. Bet his type couldn't stop the big corruption going on in the UK and the US. Deluded. We live in a demented world where people get praised and respected for destroying and bullying. Sad.
It is refreshing to hear a soldier talk openly about their job. Others are looking at him like he is an anomaly while ignoring the actual role of the military.
if you put brad pitt, leo de caprio, jason momoa, etc, etc..in front of her and asked her to choose between all of them or ant, she would 1000% choose ant to bone her..women are attracted to power and they find the idea of a man who can protect her and her baby, irresistible..while those guys are rich, hot or played that role in movies, my boy ant has a track record of doing that on a day to day basis, in the most badass SF unit in the world - the SAS;
