To the people saying she can't dance, the dancing in Aly's routine is far better than in a lot of elite routines. I actually love the style of this routine. It's not ballet, but that's doesn't mean it's not artistic. Ballet is not the only kind of dance that's artistic. Also, anyone who actually thinks the Russian floor routines were artistic this quad is nuts. They literally just waved their arms around in between the tumbling and spins. THAT'S NOT ARTISTRY. Laurie Hernandez's routine is a million times more artistic than every Russian routine this quad.
Leaps and spins do not equal artistry. Leaps and spins are skills just like tumbling. Notice how they are incorporated into the D score the same way tumbling is. Artistry is selling the routine and performing with emotion. I LOVED Aliya's 2012 Olympic routine, but her floor routines this quad have fallen a bit flat for me. All quad long, Russian choreography beyond the leaps and spins was just fancy, uninspired arm waving, and they often perform their floor routines as if they barely want to be there. I wasn't impressed. Of course there are exceptions. I always love watching Afanasyeva, and Seda's routines would be entertaining if she could just land her tumbling consistently. The Dutch routines are GORGEOUS. I agree with you there.
Oh Afanasyeva, IMO she was the last of the Russians to have an amazingly artistic floor routine. It was so good, that's why she was sometimes out of steam for her last pass, she did the most. I did love Hernandez floor routine tho, too bad she got two-per-countried out of the finals, she might have taken a medal.
Alexandra whole floor routine is hard. Her floor routine has massive tumbling passes that ended in a flawlessly stuck landing. Music is fantastic. It gives a reason for everyone to love this amazing floor routine. 😊
Until it becomes a mandatory part of gymnastics training for US gymnasts to have to go to ballet everyday (not just 1 hour a week because that does nothing) I don't want to hear how "horrible" of a dancer Aly is. Gymnasts aren't dancers, no matter how you spin it. Some people have a natural artistry and some have to work towards it, but I don't think it's a requirement in US gymnastics to have ballet in the curriculum.
I wouldn’t worry, it’s just coming from people who are jealous because she can do things they could never dream of doing and has accomplished more than they ever will.
I hate to break to people but there are only one or two gymnasts today who actually dance. Even the Russians and Romanians use their arms and legs the most. Very little body movement from any of them. The Dutch are the exception really. They use all of their body in dance. Most of the Russians don't actually dance either. They pose and move their arms and spin. Same for Romania really. Artistry is so subjective to the person watching it. I'm not sure how they can actually judge that to be honest. Just something I've observed over the years.
Heather Wicker it doesn’t all have to be nastia ballet style. Not all of them are graceful swans. Some are powerhouses and have a different dance style.
Asuky Brasil the ballet and choreography has not value, only the acrobatic skills. So, if you think that the acrobatics is not important, u r watching the wrong sport.
Reading these comments I can tell that there are some people who would rather see these ladies wearing ballerina clothes & probably not waste any time with the tumbling parts of there floor routines, but I am one of those few who lives the athletic skills of these ladies & if I ever watch ballerinas do there thing then I will not expect any tumbling, & I am an Antivaxer
ContractTerminated Exactly. You do realize that people put emphasis on the word GYMNASTICS rather than the artistry. Don't get me wrong I love to see beautiful dance elements in certain gymnasts' routines, but I'm not going to bitch and moan about it. Aly Raisman's routine is exciting to watch because of all the difficult elements.
Comparison of Aly and Laurie: Aly had better double layout, better double back and much more difficult combination pass (the first one, Laurie´s third one). Laurie had much better double arabian with stag jump, much better dance and a somewhat better split leaps (not perfect, though). So it is objectively hard to say who was better. Aly was as always way overscored.
Sally Vee exacto, de acuerdo pero no todo es acrobacia , le falta elegancia, clase , presencia . A mi en lo particular me parece muy varonil esta mujer
Anyone else pissed off that they put Aly up on anchor on floor in Prelims, because they didn't want to risk Laurie 2per-ing her out, like what Maggie did in 2015.
That had absolutely nothing to do with it and if you believe that- you’re delusional and selfish. They put their two best floor workers up at the end because it helps to build the team score more effectively. A LOT of countries do it that way. You are just an Aly hater who can’t get a clue.
@@saragrant9749 You think Aly was gonna score higher than Simone on floor? Because she was Olympic Champion from 4 years ago (despite Simone winning every world floor title in 2013, 2014, 2015 and beating Aly on floor in every competition in 2015 and 2016)? And you call *me* delusional? And "selfish"? lol Why am I "selfish:? I dont think you know what the word means. Why did they put Aly up as anchor instead of Simone, then? Explain.
I hate her gymnastics so much, like she'd better off doing tumbling gymnastics cuz her tumbling execution is clean AF but when it comes to dance skill like 1:22, girl who taught you to do switch full like that 😭 Her split in that switch full is barely 135 degrees, in current code it would probably not credited at all
I would argue that Laurie is a pretty good dancer. And while Simone is not the best dancer, she's an engaging performer on floor. It's really just Aly who is pretty egregiously inartistic. Great tumbling, but man that choreo's just ugly. If you want to look at an artistic American I'd recommend Morgan Hurd, who's turning senior next year! Very nice and graceful choreo.
xxSennaxx Sorry, yes:indeed you seem right that artistry doesn't need to mean just 'sweet ballerina's style', but reducing women's gymnastics to mere strength is not enough.
Romania is certainly not missed for their uppity attitude and superiority complex. Romania fell apart when it could no longer have the abusive system it used to have- and thank goodness for it.
As much as I hate Gabby Douglas, I don't understand how Gabby got only 8.366 in execution while this creature got an 8.675. I mean this one never hit her splits (except that regular switch leap), not even a sissone SKSKS
Her tumbling is literally perfect Pass one: Leg separation Perfect on pass 2,3 and 0.1 form for the double pike and her splits are better than Gabbys she has much more amplitude
Hey if only the judges took their own rules seriously and applied the 0.5 artistry deduction to this routine. Don't ruin a great song like Kalinka with this in future.
She has 0.1 artistry deduction only get your facts straight no can take a 0.5 artistry deduction for any reason. Case and poimt mustafina will have 0.2
@@triplefull7057 I wouldn’t worry, it’s just a toddler who feels jealousy towards someone who actually has accomplished things in life, rather than being a footnote.
