The first I noticed was Steve's approach - he attacked hunched over as a wrestler would. Alexei hit him perfectly with a knee as Steve lunged forward with an attempt at a take down. Perfect strike by Alexei. All she wrote for Steve. By the way, at 44 the old reflexes aren't what they used to be...your mind thinks you can do it but the body says otherwise...LOL.
I totally agree. I wonder if Dr. Death knew what he was stepping into though... Alexey is a fucking monster when he actually tries. I think he has tremendous potential if he can get it together in 2008.
Dr. Death is my favorite wrestler of all time. In his prime,he was one of the toughest man on the planet & I should say strongest too. I remember War Games from the Great American Bash 1989. During the match, Doc showed what earned him as the reputation as the strongest man in wrestling by not only gorilla pressing Gordy, who weighed around 290, but doing 8 reps of pressing Gordy into the top of the cage.I've never seen a greater display of strength in the history of prowrestling.
Yeah indeed could anyone tell me(us) what's the name of the entrance song of Ignashov and who is tha artist?? Thanks if you can tell me that!! Greetz!!!
Owned! I just check wikipedia - 2004 was a year Steve Williams back to life from cancer poblems and operatoins - this is the only reason i don't saying that he is an idiot. I understand that he probably needed money & some prooves that he is alive - otherwise what was he thinking??? Wrestler (a clown) going against real fighter, especially so good as Red Scorpion??? One thing for sure - nobody was surprised.
@patvilhauer I believe Steve Williams was an NCAA wrestler at Oklahoma, but I'm too lazy to google it. Williams was no catch guy though. That's for damn sure.
To be fair, Dr Death was almost 19 years older than Ignashov and was stupid to step into an MMA ring at 44 with all those injuries and cancer. He was a two sport All American and the result would have been very different in his prime. As for the clowns hating on "fake" wrestlers, pro wrestler Shinsuke Nakamura destroyed Ignashov in 2 rounds in an MMA fight.
Tell that to Sakuraba and Dan Severn who both started in "pre-planned drama shows" (Severn said in an interview that it was his pro wrestling appearances that got the attention of people who prepared him for his MMA debut.
they are different sports,it is like saying who is better tiger woods or some baseball player. u cant compare the two just because they both hit balls with sticks.
Dr.Death in early to mid twenties would have won or at least gone a couple rounds in this fight. He was middle aged and dealing with cancer in this fight.
Thank You. I am Dr. Death's biggest fan & i knew at the time he was battling throat cancer but what i didn't know whas that he found out on the night before the fight he had throat cancer.
Before this,Williams had title match 300km apart other town in Japan. Moreover he was in throat CANCER. But he showed up . Williams got operation nextweek . Later Ignashov was beaten by young wrestler. Now he is one of dull second class kicker. I wonder who is winner in the long run? K-1 promoter wanted to give another chance to Williams. This is due to the fact Williams didn't run away even he had reason to lose. Dr,Death is The REAL FIGHTER.
Dr death had a wrestling rep in japan. He was known as a bit of a tough guy in the U.S too. Thats where this fight prob came from. in the WWF Vince Mcahon held a legitimate shootfight tournament arranged to highlight Dr Death's rep (as Dr Death was a management favorite) but unfortunately he was knocked out by Bart Gunn. The tournament used kayfabe wrestlers (who have had some experience in assiclcombat and Dan Severn) in all of its fights.
Dan Severn pulled out of competition cause they forced him to fight using big ass gloves while he was a pure wrestler. He was the only legit fighter on the tournament. Dr Death wasn't unfortunately knocked out, he was in over his head and bought the hype built around him. He just wasn't a good fighter at all. Bart Gunn on the other hand had no training, but he definately had the talent and toughness to become a pro.
Just so all of you know I just got done talking with Steve this weekend, and he talked about this fight. On the night before this fight, Steve was told he had throat cancer, and his mind was NOT on this fight 24 hours later. Not saying he'd have done any better, but I felt you all needed to know.
Dr Death should be fighting guys like Tank Abbot, make for a much more entertaining fight. And how soon after this fight did he have the throat cancer?
It's always a shame to see something like this. Dr. Death was a legit amateur wrestler and tough guy, he was just WAY past his prime here, not to mention probably no real training in or defending strikes. Could've been another Dan Severn had he started much earlier. Same sad story with Yoshiaki Yatsu, fantastic Olympic level wrestler turned AJPW pro, took two fights against Gary Goodridge way past his prime and got embarrassed. Although he did have an iron jaw compared to Steve.
I just want to say everything has story. Let me make it like this. Williams might have shown up to earn money for operation.More money than wrestling,I'm sure. And he did his best. K-1 organization wanted Ignashov to be a big star, so it needed the fact that Ignashov beated big name like Williams. To me there is no difference between MMA and Pro-wrestling. Everything has angle because such event is a promption. Williams understood it and then fought with young naive kicker.
The former two-sport All-American from Oklahoma University, back in the ring after a lengthy battle with throat cancer, is intent on passing his hard-earned knowledge on to the next generation of pro wrestlers. And now where is Ignashov ?
those who tell that ignashov is a looser are stupid...ignashov is just a very very special talent...natural gifted fighter with amazing technial talent that was never seen before...he fights with style and he knocks out opponents with style on the technical way...he had problems with alcohol and also had injuries...now he wants to comeback but he is not as good like he was in the past...he can beat anybody if he want...and ignashov has never been knocked out...so dont tell stupid things:)

>.I've never seen a greater display of strength in the history of prowrestling. - well, we are all brothers but look at my other brother, born in same city as i was, Alexander Karelin, who is internationally recognized the best and strongest wrestler in the world, of the, let say, contentious history. for reference, check wikipediadotcom.
so if he is a looser tell me why he has never been knocked out???count me 5 fighters in last 15years who were never knocked out in 40+pro fights??fighters like hoost, bonjasky, lebanner, schilt, hari they were all knocked out few times in their career...and why ignashov wasnt knocked out?because he is just too inteligent and in combined with his fighting talent he can be unstopable IF HE WANTS... Ignashov is one of the biggest talents in fighting history but he is just a lazy man, wasted talent...
@kenchua2001 because Ignashov isn't a faker? At least, he wasn't, while being in K-1. He had almost a record record. Something along the lines of 70 wins - 1 loss - maybe 2 draws. That's a monster of a fighter! I wouln't want to meet him in a dark alley. P.S. Remember, that he K.O'd. almost all of his opponents by kicking them in the neck.
that's just fukin horrible. few rules that i like in the ufc are the no knees or kicks to the head whilst the opponent is grounded. that first knee fukin hell
Ah Nakamura a "fake" wrestler beat an MMA guy. Yet wrestlings still fake and clowny? People just need to accept that some wrestlers might actually be good fighters. Oh well.....Dr Death's wrestling matches in Japan are a lot more entertaining than some of these "real" fights :)
What the hell are you talking about? Mark Hunt won the 2001 K1 GP. Ignashov never won the GP, maybe in your dreams. The last time Alexei won a good fight was against Peter Aerts in 2002! And that fight went 5 rounds which I thought Peter won anyway. He only beat old washed up guys like Bernardo, and very young inexperienced Hari, Remy and Schilt. Against a prime great fighter, he always loses. He is a loser. He has a terrible record. More than 15 K1 losses, also against LOSERS. Kleibl?
