When the Planet Melmac explodes Gordon Shumway makes his escape in his space craft. Unfortunately though he crash lands on the planet Earth, into the garage of the Tanner family. The family bring the unconscious creature into their home, and upon realising he must be an alien life form decide naming him Alf for short.
