Woah. I stumbled across this comment posted 13 days ago, on a video posted 13 years ago. I have not found myself in such agreement with another comment in quite some time.
this sketch kinda pokes fun at the writing even back then, because most of the plot points werent sufficiently explained here dr atkinson keeps saying he will explain later
Well, depends on what era of the show we're talking about. It's absolutely something you'd hear in a Moffat written story, which is fitting considering who wrote this.
For some of the younger viewers who may not know, the "endless gravel quarries" comment had to do with the fact that many alien worlds in the original series were filmed at Welsh gravel quarries, especially during the Pertwee and Baker eras.
@film fan the line never cruel or cowardly, the Doctor seemingly dying but being saved last moment, the daleks asking the doctor for help, dalek time Lord hybrid, the Doctor turning into a blonde woman at the end, the doctor retiring. there's quite a lot
@@alexl3500 A lot of that was done by RTD beforehand. Also Moffat didn't choose Jodie, it was up to Chibnall (the next show runner). In a way that makes it more hilarious though. It wasn't even Moffat that did a lot of this but it still played out the same.
I think Jonathan pryce would be good to interpret the classic master if they ever want to bring him back. Just like how it happened with the first doctor
He's been wanting to. I say it's time! Doctor Who is bigger now. A bigger name would be good! Both him AND Joanna Lumley would be SPECTACULAR choices!!!
i find it funny how this actually predicted certain parts of dr who. the daleks surviving the time war the 9th doctor and how despite his brilliant performance had a short run the 10th doctor having vanity issues the 11th doctor seemed to be a bit more silly and immature the master turning good because of the 12th doctor's influence the doctor was supposed to die permanently in his 12th incarnation only to impossibly revive the doctor became a woman on his 13th transformation and the phrase 'never be cruel, nor cowardly' was said multiple times in 12's run (notably, during his regeneration)
@@Leon_Tyler 1. The revival started in 2005. 2. The time war wasn't established until the 2005 series. Nobody said otherwise, so why do you think that?
I mean this was written by steven Moffat so he can just reuse some stuff He even used the "i have put alot of work in this universe" in either wotch's familliar or the doctor falls
@@hubertlenningrad2252 12th was actually brilliant^^ Admittedly thought the story wasn't as great... but the Doctor himself was amazing. Definetly my favorite New Who Doctor, if not overall (still making my way through Classic, can't decide that yet)
@@catxborsuq1 well, I have also not seen them all, I quite shortly after the 11th doctor quit. It was just hard to get back into the story with a character that was so different. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Imagine being the architect, these two random men keep showing up, bringing you expensive gifts and fancy dinners, and bribing you to put various traps and anti-traps in this castle, and then going ahead and doing it
I've watched 5 seconds of Rowan's performance as a mock doctor. I'm sorry, but Rowan could have totally have carried the role of The Doctor. He still could. Let's hope.
Everyone saying Atkinson is “good enough” to be a Doctor Who is just silly. He’s too good. He doesn’t want the role, I’m guessing it’s pretty stifling for him if he can’t do any of the writing.
@@proto-geek248if Joanna Lumley had been the actual female Doctor after The New Avengers and Sapphire & Steel she would have a popular choice with genre TV fans. No one could look at her performance as Sapphire and doubt that she could play a mysterious, sometimes aloof, powerful alien hero. Even when this spoof was made she would have played a wildly better ‘first female Doctor’ than Jodie Whitaker.
This was truly awesome. Rowan Atkinson could've easily become one of my favorite doctors had he ever taken on the role. Watching this parody, which stayed true to the real show in a lot of ways, just made my day a lot better.
A whisk in the hand of a good cook can produce miracles. A plumber can save, or destroy, based on skills. The first can lead to hope, the worst item in Pandora’s box. The later, in the wrong hands, can lead to to destruction, in the wrong hands (I won’t say,) as we learned about two months ago, when the washer and disposal died on the same day.
"How could I possibly forget the only time travelling companion I've ever had?" "You've had lots of companions." "The only time travelling companion I've ever HAD." "oh..."
When I clicked I was expecting Atkinson to play an absolute blundering idiot of a Doctor here.... instead, he's actually amazingly convincing as a Doctor showing great timing, facial expression and subtleties, and with a fully confident quasi-heroic voice. It's the first time I'm seeing his acting diversity! I can't believe he hasn't done other [serious] roles. Super impressive!
I think Rowan Atkinson would have been great in a regular episode. Hell, I STILL think you could use him as an 'unknown future Doctor' in one episode, ever since Matt Smith's Doctor let slip that at some point he vastly increased his number of available regenerations to over 500 or something.
"after 3 centuries of wading through those vast steamy lakes -- climbing those huge squelchy mountains... after a lifetime of only dung-slugs for food" are words i never thought i'd hear out of Jonathan Pryce's mouth
The regenerations were amazingly.. prophetic.. 10 and his lick-the-mirror charms, 11 and his jumpiness, 12 and his alleged handsomeness- at least according to River Song, at least- and then.. well, 13 is just... yeah...
This episode was pure comedy gold, rowan atkinson would make a fantastic doctor not only because of his great acting skills but others reason, reasons which i'll explain later
As a kid, I thought Doctor Who was a series of mysteries for tv watching old timers, Anglophile mall goths and Warcraft loving gamers. Oh boy, am I still surprised that a small super hardcore part of its fanbase is one of the world’s most unpleasant?
I've watched this skit at least four times over the years it has been on RU-vid but this time I noticed how many future Dr Who plot developments are prophesied in it.
@android5160 I'm watching this 15 years after being aired, we have a bit of silliness from Toy Story, they used 'universal binding tape' now whenever I need cellotape I ask for 'universal bonding tape'
This is just bloody brilliant. Can't believe I've watched so much reboot Who & associated shows & only now just ran across the best parody with the most gifted cast anyone could ask for. Total awe.
Made a fortune taking bribes from time travellers. Unfortunately, he was eventually arrested for tax evasion, printing fake bills, and being in possession of several million in stolen cash...
Rowan Atkinson could actually be the doctor I think. He's got a little bit of Paul McGann in him. And to think that when I first saw Silvester McCoy I thought he reminded me of mr bean...
@Bwissrly1159 - Yes it's Rowan Atkinson who plays Mr Bean but in the UK he has been one of the most famous comedians on T.V. for 30 years. So although around the world he is best known for Mr. Bean in the UK he is known for tons of stuff and probably best known for a show called Blackadder.
Richard E. Grant is...."How could I ever forget the only time time Travelling Companion I've ever HAD"...I DIED. Hugh Grant with that hair sweep from his face...gorgeous. "oh sister..." lolz!!!!!
I come back to this whenever I need cheering up. Always love it. The fact that the plot holds up (as much as any DW plot does), it uses Timey-Wimey events and even has a clever twist for how The Doctor and The Master can share info secretly. It’s a masterpiece in its way, poking fun in a way that manages to be reverential. It’s a tricky line to tread but it does perfectly. … and it also involves the Daleks having a beam to destroy the universe, and sewers being a plot point….. sound familiar? (Moffat never wastes an idea) 😎
Fun fact: Thanks to the novels 'The Tomorrow Windows' and 'The Gallifrey Chronicles' this story and all Doctors in it are as canon as any other part of Doctor Who
This is shockingly close to the actual regen lineup. Her thirtieth body was a blonde lady from a regeneration that should not have been possible. Two young brunets after 9 and an older gentleman. Granted, the 11 and 12 spots would be swapped. this is fantastic.
I never thought this would be on my recommended. I haven't watched it in well over a decade but it lives in my mind in it's entirety because I rewatched it so many times as a kid.
Ahead of the Day of the Doctor on Saturday, we're giving you a very special #throwbackthursday today: bit.ly/1bafNUH #DoctorWho #DayoftheDoctor #50thanniversary #savetheday
To be fair this is a really solid episode. Fantastic characterization, on point writing, minamalistic plot (no longer than it needs to be), good humor that doesn't detract from the plot and rather works with it, and some other details I'll explain later. Really this is exactly what a good parody is. Just really good media that knows the source material well enough to make fun of it in an intelligent way. Ranking it among single stand alone doctor who episodes I'd easily put it in the the top 100 (if not 10).
It WAS intended as a comedic continuation of the show at the time... Of course, it was rendered irrelevant by further serious attempts in 'Scream of the Shalka' and Season 27/Series 1.
