Praises for experimenting with mods on this Giulia, but a lot of your comments are too subjective if not wrong. *NEWSFLASH* - Alfa Romeo makes the engine and engineered the car, not Ferrari, but some key people involved in making the 458 were assembled by FCA to make the Giulia.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Correct. Ferrari engineers* built the engine and helped design the car. Not Ferrari per se. But bringing on Ferrari engineers and putting an Alfa Romeo title on their desks then having them go back to Ferrari after… might just be the same thing. Up to you. Look up Philippe Krief and Gianluca Pivetti. Hope you enjoy your Giulia as well friend, it’s still an Alfa Romeo.

@kasimirdenhertog3516
@kasimirdenhertog3516 Месяц назад
Standard suspension on this car is not very sharp. I guess this ‘looseness’ makes it feel more comfortable and the tricked out differential and active aero are supposed to pick up the slack. Since I prefer a sharper, more communicative setup, I went for the KW V3 coilovers - this is the only aftermarket set that will connect to the car’s suspension control (DNA selector). It makes a big difference and I can recommend it to everyone owning a Q. I also lowered the car slightly and put spacers on the front and bigger tires all around (295/255 vs 285/245 I believe), makes the car feel even more planted.

Nice video! I have just ordered the GiroDisc upgrade that I will run with Endless ME20 Pads. Cannot wait to feel the difference on track. Have you tried a QV with the KW DDC Coilovers? How do those feel vs the route you have taken, of Stiffer Springs and GTAm software? Has Jason given you any feedback on this? Finally what kind of values are you running with the GMS kit? Thank you in advance and keep up the great work! Looking forward to the followup videos.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
That’s awesome! I will be doing the Girodisc next as well. And I’m curious how those endless pads work out! These springs and dampers are supposedly better than the KW set up. Stiffer and more compliant. But all I can say is stiffer for sure since I’ve never felt the KW personally. And since they are very tamed by the damper tune, and about $2k less… I see zero reason to go KW. Especially if you track your car. Our camber for the front is set to -2.5. I will go higher with future adjustments and mods.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
And the whole reason Jason did this “coilover” set up is because the KWs just weren’t cutting it. So I’ll take his word for it.
@AdrianoCisternino
@AdrianoCisternino Год назад
@@carhoney I have spoken with GiroDisc in the USA and they have said that they have many clients in the USA using the Endless ME20 and they are a great match. The only negative is that if you use the car as a daily, then the ME20 wear down the rotors quite quickly when they are run at lower temperatures. In my case they are perfect, as I only use the car for spirited drives on b roads and monthly suspersprint track days. I can provide some personal feedback in a few weeks, once I get the rotors and pads fitted and get to experience the car with this new setup.
@AdrianoCisternino
@AdrianoCisternino Год назад

Coming from a Cayman GTS & Zamaro Zl1LE, I personally find this car much more playful and fun on track. My wife had the base Giulia for years before I got my Q, so I was already used to the brake inputs. Disagree with your assertion that it is terrible on track stock, sounds more like it just didn't suit YOUR preferences.

What size exhaust tips did you get/ where did you get them from? (If ya don't mind me asking :) )
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
They were generic for the most part from a custom shop. It’s mostly the style and size you want to choose. These were 4in outer diameter, double wall tips. I think 4in is perfect. Fits the diffuser space without looking too big (like say, centerline stradale exhaust with 4.5in, no for me!). Also I think they were 2.5in inner diameter or whatever the oem exhaust exits as. And 9in tips or whatever length welded to be flush at the exit.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Here’s an example of a cheap version just for measurement and to get an idea. But just have a quality shop do it. I understand why one might want to upgrade a QV when track days are your target, but most of us won't be going to the track. And you need to total the cost of all your mods, which add a lot to an already expensive car. Many would say just buy a BMW M3 CS if you're willing to spend money/time like you have.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Totally get where you're coming from and you're right about most people not tracking this car (most people won't track any car, even track built specials lol). But I spent $54k on this car with 3k miles on it, put $6k into track mods and it is absolutely faster than an older M3CS for around the exact same price. Plus it's an alfa and is more fun to drive (IMO). The only limitation is aftermarket availability, which we are pioneering which is way more fun too. On another note... we will be comparing this car to a brand new 2023 M3CS to see how it holds up. Coming soon...
@rlsedition
@rlsedition Год назад
@@carhoney When I considered an Alfa Giulia purchase I looked into both a used Ti Sport and QV. I checked all the dealers within 500 miles of me and the Internet used car sites and the least expensive QV I found after several weeks looking was $46k with over 60k miles (this was in Sept., 2021). How did you find such a low mileage QV at that price? The 2020 Ti Sport I ended up buying was $40k with 5k miles. I'm happy with my choice, as I'm only doing street driving and I have the Ducati in the garage if I feel "the need for speed". I do understand track days, as I've done plenty, but all on sport motorcycles, where the mods to get ready are easier (and much less expensive, I think) than cars - tires, brake pads, suspension settings, safety wiring and the requisite helmet, leather suit, gloves and boots. These days our group of older bikers travel down to either SE Ohio or western N. Carolina for twisty mountain type roads over extended weekends. Not as fast as a race track, but still fun.
