you my friend are an absolute life saver. I can see why no garage would tackle this for under a grand. What an absolutely moronic cost saving design. I thought changing the cabin filter was horrible, but this tops it by a country mile. GG Alfa, nice going. You are a monster mechanic, I watched all your Alfa videos, helped a lot with mine. Thanks for taking the time to document all of your work.

In the Motor Trade myself for 35 years, Love the man that persevere's ! ....these fail at an alarming rate, and yes, if they had put the motor / resistor on the passenger side ( for UK exports ) it would all have been so much easier, however, you have shown a way forward for those that can use some spanners and sockets and do a mean upside down contortionist act ! ....Thank you, great to see a walk through that get's to the point in plain and easy speak ...be good to have seen the end result though with you pushing buttons and the fan kicking into life ! .....or did it ??????? .... All the best.

Thank you for posting this. It gave me the confidence to try and fix a friends Giulietta and today I finally got it all back together. It is a painful job, mostly done with your fingertips through that tiny gap between the clutch pedal and the heater box. It took me an entire day to figure out the proper orientation for the new fan to go in with its cover part hanging by the wire, then re-unite both parts with my fingertips completely blind.. Wouldn’t have done it without this video guide, thanks again.

Yeah I'm at this stage i can't get the lid on! Really stuck! Just had an hour at it! WHen i put the fan in without the lid it goes in the hole. But it drops down. SO then seems impossible to get lid on. Then if you try and pull the fan out further i can't get the pressure or angle to get it on! But don't see how to get it pushed on. I've kept the wire attached. Is there any tip? How far out of the hole should it be when you push it on

Just done this job myself, Thanks for the detailed video. I ordered a new fan from Alfa shop, there were none second hand about, loads were cheaper on the net but I was worried about having to do the job twice or not being able to access screws etc on a non gen part. As it was, the new fan cover had two screws holding it to the motor as opposed to the original having the three that you've shown. Both were accessible but very difficult to line up the cover with the screw holes in the motor frame. This was probably the hardest part of the job, closely followed by getting the old fan out and the new one in without damaging it. The whole job took about 5 hours with a few cuppas to stretch out, calm down and physc up for another round of contortion, blind challenge and perseverance. It's really not a complicated job, just awkward, Expect that and you'll be fine. Only tip would be to cut a small piece of wood to wedge the clutch pedal back, get a small bendy magnetic torch, my 18v work light was far too big and couldn't angle it to see anything other than blinding myself. I noted that there is a clip on the fan housing at the top of the 'hole' that needs pushing upwards to allow you to rotate/ unlock the motor and fan to remove it from the housing. All the best to anyone having a go at this, give your self plenty of time ie Sat morning and don't expect to complete quickly or have the pressure of needing the car. My fan had gone stiff which I was able to diagnose through the resistor hole with a screwdriver before ordering parts or embarking on the challenge. The resistor didn't need changing, but this is an easy job without the need for much / any disassembly. One other point is when you put it all back together it will throw up some faults. This is to do with the steering position I think. Start the engine turn full left lock, full right lock, full left lock and it will clear the faults. Oh , I done it all with the batt disconnected to ensure I didn't mess anything up or have the airbag explode in my face! Good luck and thankyou! £200 spent, £1000 saved!!!!

Hi Liam, yes that’s me! I gave up because as far as I could work out to take the dash out you need to take the doors off!! 😬 I wasn’t going to attempt that on my drive 😂 It’s taken a while, but I got there in the end!

Remember watching thrse great videos from you 3years ago. Was so sad seeing that guy in wrong lane cutting across in front of you at dual carriageway roundabout. Bet he tried to get off with it as well as we're no painted arrow markings on road. I loved the stuff you did on clips on other videos was fascinating. I think this is too tough for me if I need to do it. But your video will certainly reduce the cost for our mechanic friend to do it. Shame you have no new content you were such a natural. All in one take as well. Amazing

Crucial Helpful additions : first thanks for a great video!!! A few key need to knows and one question : first, I stuck my finger through the regulator hole, wiggled the jammed fan and its now fine but no idea how long it will last. This avoids taking out the steering etc, just remove the one panel on side of tunnel etc. Second, I did try to remove the motor, and used a 68cm long broom handle or offcut wedged the clutch down against the front of the inboard seat runner. Third, I had to undo 4 13mil bolts to remove the column, not 2. Fourth, I got sick of the 6mil bolt on the blower motor and stuck a screwdriver under the plastic bit it retains and snapped it off - lovely. 5th, after doing all that (column out etc etc), the motor still wouldn't rotate like a light bulb - the 6mil bracket was fully gone, and i suspect there's a plastic tab to be pushed or pulled before it's allowed to rotate - anyone???. Great video and very helpful BUT... My heater blower stopped working on my Giulietta, just an occasional clicking sound could be heard. I took it to an auto-electrician and he fixed it for £45. So there are other causes for the blower to stop working, not just fan failure. It's always worth checking with an honest auto electrician...
@cranswil
@cranswil Год назад
@lyndon London I've just had this happen yesterday and today.. So far it's been when I've gone backwards or changed direction. Fan fell silent then all you heard was clicking. Silence for a while then further clicking. Then it started working again? Is this what you found with the clicking? For only 20to 30 seconds before it restarted working again worked for next 2hours.

@@cranswil my blower stopped working permanently but faults can start intermittently and progress to being permanent. The auto electrician was not phased by it at all, I got the impression that he'd seen the problem many times before. Good luck...

Lucky me - I fixed mine without full strip down - I just removed the side plastic panel and exposed the motor fan by removing the pollen filter, then gave it a poke. My pollen filter had lots of leaves in there- so I turned on the blower and poked a long screwdriver around and bingo - fan started - a few more leaves blew out. So if you’re lucky like me and try this instead of the full strip down- you could save yourself a load of time- having said that, this is a fantastic guide - if mine goes wrong again - I will poke it once more - no way am I going to try this - despite the video's brilliance - it looks like a day of frustration or more and I'm not that agile - having said that I would take the seat out and lay flat and consider removing the clutch pedal as that looks very hard with it held down

Hi great video and process. My wife's Giulietta had a problem which did in fact revolve around the regulator and the fan had become stuck for some reason.In any case it has been resolved with the conclusion that if it goes again it will need a replacement blower. I am an Incorporated Engineer and a Chartered Quality Professional and having phoned around have discovered that no one appears to have a set procedure for replacing this unit.The main dealers though costly on most brands do have a formulated cost and timing for most servicing and repairs This leads me to the opinion that this is lacking in the Alfa organisation. I have made contact with a Main Dealer requesting details of cost and process undertaken for this indemic failure throughout the Alfa Brand.When I receive a response I shall post it and I will draw their attention to this methodology. Any other Brand in view of the apparent size of this problem would have taken corrective action in a problem of this size. Anyway this video has been a great help for most people. As it can give leverage for negotiating a cost for repair.I must state that 1 Alfa Dealer quoted up to £1000.00 pound for repair.Its a joke really when you have demonstrated that this is probably a 3 hour process.I am waiting a response from the main dealer I will update if I can.

@@Brazill253 in the video you can see where the plug is for the fan . I have reached with my hand and turned the fan on from the control with the plug out and i have plugged it back in whilst it was on . The fan started working after that and it still works after a couple of months. If i wouldn’t done that would have had to take it to a garage . Give it a try it might save you some money.

Excellent video and very useful. One anomaly I would love you to clear up. In the video you say that there is a constant 12 volt feed to the fan so that is how you could tell that the fan had gone. Surely the voltage feed would be variable from say about 3 volts up to 12 volts depending on the switch position? I ask because I have a problem with my fan that is not working and has a 12 volt feed with no variance. thanks, Mark.

Managed to change the Heater Fan finaly. Thanks to Super Litte Mechanics inspiration and Tony Vialetto's instrument removal video of steering trim. I've created a few videos detaling the stages which i found hard, which alongside these videos should help other Alfa Drivers to be able to change them too . Have uploaded 3 parts today. But should be able to get the tips section up for stage 4 later this week. Oh and the end result of course to find out if it actually works. Hopefully it's of some use to people out there. It's nice to be able to help others to save money too as other people on You tube have helped me to do too. ru-vid.com/group/PLyiEvFwJS1N7jNYMJnLnT9LFdqrX7vIWL

Yes, all finished, I put the new fan back in following these steps in reverse, it was a little tricky putting the fan back together in the hole, but a little fettling and got it done. When I took the new fan apart ready for fitting, I used tipex on one of the screw holes, so I could see to line it up when it was in-situ. IT WORKS!!! Ive spent over a year without heating in the car, its so good to have it all working again! You can’t just swap the motor to the other side for such complex assemblies, especially for such small volume markets like RHD... A bigger sin is no room for a drivers footrest on the RHD model! I think the Italians and French do these things on purpose just to annoy the poms - which is fair ;) Shame we in Australia have to suffer as well!
