The Merc is indeed very nice, but I don't find it as special as the Stelvio. It needs a 37% bigger and heavier engine to get the same levels of power. The Stelvio is clearly the better driver's car with superior dynamics as some could expect having been built over the Giorgio platform (designed by Ferrari engineers) with a Ferrari derived engine. The Macan ...well the Macan is a VW TIguan built by Porsche with an Audi TFSI engine. It's incredible that 2/3 of Porsche sales are SUVs built over VW platforms with Audi engines. I'm not saying they aren't better than their VAG brothers, but still...
Demian Aegidiux Wilde All of that is true. However, the team Marchione gathered to develop the Giorgio platform (first for Alfa Romeo, but soon to be found on other FCA models like the Maserati Grecale), consisted mainly of Ferrari engineers, namely the author of the F154 engine, from which Alfa got the reduced 6 cylinder version. So yes, technically it’s all Alfa Romeo. In reality it is mainly Ferrari engineering.
Porsche engineers changed 70% of VAG’s MLB platform. The Macan is by no means a VW or Audi in a tux. In fact, in terms of quality and all-round driving performance of the Macan, GLC AMG, and Stelvio, the Porsche easily takes the crown.
Just sold my gla45 amg and now have a used macan s , I can say the driving experience is great but the interior and exterior quality is far superior in the macan.
You missed the most important point to owning any of these cars, which one is the prettiest? Alfa is an Italian super model sure to turn heads while the other two are cold German workhorses.
The plastics are great. And il tell you why, as an owner of a Giulia Veloce those plastics clean so damn well - other expensive cars we’ve owned ,the scuff marks remain and looks shithouse after a while. Amg fastest? Not according to other reviews.
Mik S yeah alfas are show off when not in repair 😂😂 also is a great show off when you invite someone for a ride and everything squeaks inside or with a mini cooper size wheel gap
@@2334spike ...Which of course is what 'everybody' believes, but not at all true. I don't look at Alfa Romeo as a show off, I look at them as a better alternative to the usual German stuff that (the same) "everybody" believes to be reliable and superior.
@superjoe1 That Is of course of joke, because the 500X is a very good and reliable small machine in its 1.4 Turbo version, but it's built over an FCA small modular B platform. The Stelvio is built over the excepcional good D platform called Giorgio and developed by a Ferrari team of engineers hand picked by the late Marchionne himself. Do you know what else isn't a joke? The Stelvio has clearly a superior 4L engine than the base Macan and it has clearly a superior top of the range model. Why? Because the Stelvio 2.9 V6 twin turbo is a Ferrari F154 derived engine, while the Macan is built over a VW platform with a 2.9 V6 Twin turbo TFSI from Audi (from the RS4/RS5). All Porsche SUVs (Cayenne and Macan) are built over VW platforms with Audi/VW engines. Not a single one has a Porsche engine. And sadly this is not a joke.
Australia hasn’t got the 2021 version yet unfortunately. That’s why the older model is being used. The newer model doesn’t do anything better performance wise tho so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal
Pretty hollow review seeing as it only has 3/4's of the real story, it should have included the BMW X4 M Competition in the mix. Why didn't it? perhaps you should test drive the BMW :-)
The QV sound much more unique and exotic. Its a masterpiece a engineering to fit that much power in an engine that small. The amg actually sounds like a grumpy all lion, as of the alfa, it sounds like a young lion ready to take the throne ;) both are great cars though (I might be a little biased because I own a stelvio QV)
Sports cars reviewed and recommended for a boring family demographic .. that’s why I’m sooo bored of seeing AMG driven by some fat wife who thinks she’s young. Take the Alfa any day.
