Hadley makes a truly fantastic Javert - we were there Wednesday and we were honestly not expecting him to be this brilliant as he seems so young for the part but he was totally mind blowing! Alfie was outstanding of course but so were the whole cast (never has there been a better Thénardier than Matt Lucas in our opinion!) - the entire cast made it the best ever Les Mis that we ever saw - and it is our favourite show so we have seen it many times. ENJOY ENJOY!!
Damn, Hadley's very good as Javert. I'm looking forward onto hearing him be Raoul in the phantom of the opera 25th Anniversary. I'm sure he'd be very good.
No one sings Valjean as beautifully as Alfie Boe and with passion to match. Ramin is fantastic and theatrical, but Alfie hits every note spot on - he's MY Valjean. Yes, I was entranced by Colm Wilkerson on Broadway. Alfie is IT.
Um...Hadley DID hit the note. You can just hear it if you listen to it. I didn't catch it the first time, but I hear it now. I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, but I just wanted to say so. Please don't get the wrong idea!
@claudiatoman I'd love to hear abit of Ramin's epilogue if you have it,just from the bit "now you are here"etc with the lovely quaver intro. If you could do that I'd be delighed :-) Thanks great videos
@thatwhichisgiven Definitely!! I love Ramin going to see him in February and saw Alfie in October and can't wait to see Hadley as Javert again. So write there isn't enough of them!
Can't wait to see Les Mis on Tuesday! Hadley makes a good Javert.... I can't wait to see Alfie as Jean val Jean. I just wish Katie Hall was playing Cosette - how fit.
@claudiatoman "...what would [we] like to hear?" How about starting with the "Work Song," then "The Prologue" and "What Have I Done," and just work your way through to the "Do You Hear the People Sing-Reprise" at the end. I'm only partly kidding here. Especially in the States, where we haven't prayer of getting to see this before Alfie and Matt both end their runs. Put anything, everything. And THANKS!
I like Alfie very much but I think Colm was better at this role because he sounds more like a father, a more mature man. As for Javert, nah... Hadley's roughness sounds really cool and appropriate at the suicide scene, but he seems to have simplified Javert to a raving lunatic, which he is not... Philip Quast seemed to understand the character better. Hadley's Javert is an animal, Philip's is human.
Allie Boe has a terrific voice, but it's more an operatic voice that, IMO, doesn't quite suite the character of Valjean. Hadley Fraser has a decent voice, but sounds too young for Javert. And sorry, if you can't hit that low note in "chain," it doesn't count.
